Lady Pirates lose 2 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates suffered their first two losses of the season this past week before turning it around on Senior Night. On Thursday, Jan. 24 they lost at Lapwai 49-63. On Saturday, Jan. 26 they traveled to Riggins and lost to Salmon River 52-59. Finally they closed out their regular season with a win on Senior Night as they beat Moscow 60-31 at Cottonwood Monday, Jan. 28.
At Lapwai
Prairie suffered their first loss of the season at Lapwai Thursday, Jan. 24. Although the two teams wind up tied for first in the league, Lapwai takes the #1 seed due to a tiebreaker.
The Lady Pirates got off to a rough start as they trailed 9-14 by the end of the first quarter but it was the second quarter that got them. Lapwai outscored Prairie 9-22 in the quarter to take an 18-36 lead at the half.
Prairie played better in the second half but had dug themselves too deep in the first half.
They were able to get the deficit down under 10 points in the second half but Lapwai was able to push the lead back over double digits each time.
Prairie trailed 31-49 after 3 quarters. And outscored Lapwai 18-15 in the fourth quarter.
Turnovers were the main difference as Lapwai stole the ball 25 times in the game.
India Peery was the top scorer for Prairie with 17 points. Five of her 6 baskets in the game were 3-pointers. 
 Theresa Wemhoff scored 9, Alexis Hiler 7, Jordyn Higgins 6, Madison Shears 5, Ciara Chaffee 3 and Kristyna Krogh 2.
Lapwai also won the JV game 38-53.

At Salmon River
On Saturday, Jan. 26 Prairie lost their second straight game after starting 16-0, 52-59 to Salmon River at Riggins.Kristyna Krogh looks to shoot at Salmon River.
Salmon River jumped out to a 0-4 lead but Prairie came back with a 10-4 run to take their first, and unfortunately only, lead of the game at 10-8. Peery scored 6 of those 10 points and Wemhoff scored the other 4.
Salmon River tied the score at 10-10 on a putback and their star player, Chevelle Shepherd, scored 2 free throws to make it 10-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Shepherd scored 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the second quarter as Salmon River built their lead to 20-28 by halftime.
Prairie couldn’t find their shooting touch in the quarter as they connected on just 2 of 15 shot attempts. Leading the shooting struggles was Higgins, who missed all 9 of her first half shots. She is normally a 50+ percent shooter, even from the perimeter.
In the third quarter it was Peery’s turn to lose her shooting touch as she went 0 for 4 in the quarter with most of those misses not even hitting the rim.
Shears was the only one hitting anything in that quarter as she hit 4 straight shots, including a pair of 3 pointers to keep Prairie from losing too much ground. The Pirates trailed by 10 heading into the fourth quarter, 33-43.
Salmon River scored the first 4 points in the fourth to take a 14 point lead at 33-47. Higgins then made her first basket of the game on a drive to the hoop. Shepherd answered with a 3 to give the Savages their biggest lead of the game at 35-50.
Higgins and Peery both rediscovered their shooting eye and Prairie forced several turnovers to get back into the game. Higgins and Peery each hit a 3 to cut the deficit to 9. Higgins then scored off a steal to make it 43-50.
A basket by Shepherd was answered by a 3 from Higgins. Two free throws by Shepherd were answered by a 3 from Peery that got the Pirates within 5 at 49-54 with 1:42 left.
That was as close as Prairie would get though as Salmon River made most of their free throws in the final 1:39.
Prairie twice more got within 5 at 51-56 after 2 free throws by Peery and 52-57 on a free throw by Hiler.
Peery wound up with 17 points to lead Prairie in scoring. Higgins and Shears each scored 10 with Wemhoff adding 6, Hiler 5 and Chaffee 4. 
Shepherd scored 28 to lead Salmon River and killed Prairie at the line where she was 9 for 9.
Salmon River also controlled the boards 32-45. Hiler led Prairie with 9 rebounds while Peery and Chaffee had 6 each.
Higgins had 5 steals and 3 assists while Shears had 4 assists.
Prairie was 18 for 63 from the field, 29%, and 10 for 16 at the line, 63%. Salmon River was 17 for 40 from the field, 43%, and 21 for 33 at the line, 64%.
Prairie was called for 25 fouls in the game with Higgins and Wemhoff both fouling out. Salmon River was called for 17 fouls.

Vs. Moscow
In the game against Moscow the Lady Pirates came out with more energy than they showed the last couple outings and Higgins broke out of her shooting slump in a big way.
Jordyn Higgins scores 2 of her 22 points on Senior Night against Moscow.Higgins made her first shot of the game to five Prairie a 2-0 lead. After Moscow tied it Prairie went on a 14-0 run to take control of the game.
Defense led to offense as Prairie forced 16 first quarter turnovers.  Krogh, a senior, got the start instead of Shears and kicked off the scoring run with a pair of free throws that gave Prairie the lead for good.
Wemhoff then scored after a steal and Krogh added 2 more free throws. Peery sank a free throw and then drained a 3-pointer. Krogh scored inside and then Wemhoff and Krogh each added a free throw to make it 16-2.
Moscow scored a free throw to make it 16-3 at the quarter break.
Prairie forced another 11 turnovers in the second quarter. 
Shears came into the game and putback her own missed shot and followed that with a 3-pointer.
After a Moscow 3 it was Peery’s turn to score with a 3 pointer and a short jumper in the lane, which kicked off another 14-0 run. A steal by Uhlenkott led to a lay-up Higgins. Chaffee then added a 3-point play and Higgins finished off the run with a rare 4-point play when she was fouled on a made 3-pointer.
Prairie took a 42-12 lead at the halftime break.
The Pirates then scored the first 8 points of the third quarter with Higgins scoring 6 of those and Peery the other two.
Moscow scored a free throw then Higgins hit another 3-pointer to make it a 40 point lead at 53-13. Higgins wound up shooting 5 for 5 in the quarter for 11 points as Prairie took a 57-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
Higgins had Prairie’s only points in the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock, on another 3-pointer,  her third of the game.
In the final few minutes with a huge lead, coach Lori Mader was able to sub out each of her seniors to an ovation from the crowd. Higgins, Krogh, Wemhoff and Hiler all played their final home game for the Pirates.
Higgins wound up with 22 points to lead all scorers. Peery and Shears also hit double figures with 11 points each. Krogh scored 7, Chaffee 5, Wemhoff 3 and Uhlenkott 1.
Moscow had the rebounding edge, 28-39. Peery led the Pirates with 7.
Peery also had 7 steals. Wemhoff had 5 steals and Uhlenkott and Higgins had 4 each as Prairie had 27 steals and forced 39 turnovers.
Higgins had 5 assists while Krogh and Peery had 2 each.
Prairie was 21 for 52 from the field, 40%, and 11 for 21 at the line, 52%. Moscow was 9 for 35 from the field, 26%, and 10 for 16 at the line, 63%.
Prairie finishes the regular season with a 17-2 record, 11-1 in league play.
In the JV game Prairie built a 19 point lead and then held on for a 43-36 win.
They didn’t start well as they scored just 2 points in the first quarter and trailed 2-7. Ellea Uhlenkott had the basket for Prairie. 
Prairie was down 3-9 in the second quarter when they started a 12-0 scoring run that carried through to halftime. Delanie Lockett and Josie Remacle scored 4 each with Trinity Martinez adding 3 as Prairie took a 15-9 lead at the half.
Moscow scored first in the third quarter the Prairie took over, finishing the quarter with 13 straight points. Lockett scored 5 of those while Uhlenkott scored 4. Hope Schwartz and Laney Forsmann each added 2 points.
Forsmann then scored the first 2 points of the fourth quarter at the free throw line for a 30-11 lead.
From that point on Moscow did the bulk of the scoring as they cut that 19-point lead down to as few as 6 at 39-33 with 28 seconds left. A free throw by Martinez and a 3-point play by Sydnee Bruegeman pushed the lead back to 10 before Moscow closed out the game with a 3-pointer.
Lockett led the scoring with 9 points with Uhlenkott, Schwartz and Martinez scoring 6 each. Bruegeman scored 5 while Forsmann and Remacle scored 4 each and Ali Rehder scored 3 big free throws in the fourth quarter to help hold off the Bears.
Prairie dominated the boards 53-24 with Bruegeman collecting 11 rebounds and Forsmann 10.
Lockett had 3 steals and Schwartz had 4 assists.
Prairie was 14 for 43 from the field, 33%, and 14 for 28 at the line, 50%. Moscow was 11 for 48 from the field, 23%, and 9 for 19 at the line, 47%.
