UI Extension presents workshops
University of Idaho Extension will present the "North Idaho Agricultural Outlook and Marketing Workshop" on Thursday, February 28 at the Red Lion Hotel in Lewiston, Idaho.
The purpose is to help area farmers and ranchers strengthen their marketing skills and understand the market conditions they will be facing in 2019.
The workshop will be open for registration at 8:30 am and the program begins at 9:00 am. The workshop is open to all interested individuals.
The workshop will feature six agricultural economists from the UI Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. They will address a wide range of topics including global and U.S. ag export outlook, Idaho agricultural outlook, wheat outlook and carryover analysis, input cost trends, barley, forage and cattle outlooks, marketing tools for 2019 and more. The USA Dry Pea and Lentil Council will present the pulse situation and outlook. The workshop also features a weather
outlook from Russ Quails, the Idaho State Climatologist. A panel of local lenders will cover farm credit and financial services outlook. Marketing decisions can make or break a farm financial year.
While participation in this workshop won't guarantee success, it can certainly provide information and tools to make better decisions.
The workshop is sponsored by Banner Bank, Columbia Bank, NW Farm Credit, and Zions Bank and supported by University of Idaho Extension. The registration fee for the workshop is $15 which includes coffee breaks, buffet lunch and workshop materials. Attendance is limited to the first 50 registrants so reserve your spot early!

University of Idaho Extension is offering: How to Control Ventenata & Other Annual Grasses
Ventenata and other annual grasses can spread readily in hay fields, pastures, and rangelands. These grasses reduce forage quality for livestock and compete with beneficial vegetation. Additionally, annual grasses can pose challenges for control as many herbicides that affect annual grasses can be detrimental to the perennial forage grasses they are growing with.
This program will cover the identification of annual grasses and effective approaches for controlling them, including herbicide treatments.
