$325,000 override sought
The School Board passed a resolution to seek a $325,000 override levy this year at their February meeting Tuesday, Feb. 19.
That amount is the same as last year. The election will be held Tuesday, May 21.
Board chairman Aaron Hinkelman thanked Gus Hoene for his 5½ years serving as board chairman.
Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann provided information on track and bleachers projects. Her suggestion is to relieve the balance of $72,500 from the project and put any proceeds from meets into a special maintenance fund and make upkeep a line item of the budget each year. Gus Hoene suggested $5,000 each year to go to the track fund to pay expenses.

A high school track meet has been scheduled for April 13 and it is hoped to have a junior high meet as well.
The board is seeking input from the public on whether to relieve the amount loaned by the District with action to be taken at the March 18 board meeting.
The emergency school closures for Feb. 11 and 12 were approved by the board.
An addition to the summer projects of the heating/cooling systems at the high school and painting of 10 doors at the Elementary, Forsmann recommended replacing the carpet in the Elementary School band room. She also noted there were some issues with snow on the rooftops at the high school which may need to be updated this summer.
In her principal’s report Forsmann noted that the cheer camp from Jan. 31-Feb. 4 was a great success. The participants cheered during halftime of the Feb. 5 boys game.
Hunter Safety had 52 students in attendance.
The 5th and 6th grade basketball tournament was held and it made approximately $4,000 for the track and field/bleacher project.
The school wide spelling be was rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 20 with participants Alli Rambo, Mikayla Rowland, Kade Quintal, Ashton Martin, Sydney Shears, Phillip Schwartz, Monica Goeckner, Jake Quintal, Lee Forsmann, Bennie Elven, Morgan Poxleitner and Tara Schlader.
Progress reports go out Feb. 28.
In her superintendent’s report Forsmann reported the CTE CAN program, previously offered through the Region 2 Academy, will be offered starting next year as a dual credit program with LCSC through IDLA. Fundamentals of Health Professions will be offered as a dual  credit class through IDLA/LCSC. Medical Terminology will also be offered as a dual credit course. The CAN “CAP” course will be offered through the Region 2 Academy and LCSC. These courses will continue to be free to students who utilize their Advanced Opportunity Funds.
There will be a community meeting on drug awareness and in particular vaping, will be held Monday, March 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Elementary School gym.
Ryan Hasselstrom was named at IETA IT Tech Director of the Year.
Jon Rehder reported Prairie’s first track meet will be held Saturday, April 13. Also the new pole vault mats were purchased and received. High jump mats were purchased. They are working on purchasing the cage for the discus/shot put ring.
The ACT test was held at PHS Saturday, Feb. 9.
Assessment training to prepare for ISAT testing in April was held at Nampa and was attended by Tori Decaria, Suzi Quintal, Jennifer Riener and Michelle Bledsoe.
Crisis team training is being held in Lewiston on March 7 with seven staff members planning to attend.
Suzi Quintal is working on the high school schedule for next year.
The IETA conference was held in Boise Feb. 4-6 and was attended by Forsmann, Andrea Brannan, Jennifer Riener, Rehder, Hasselstrom and Jeff Martin. In addition to Hasselstrom’s award mentioned early, Brannan was awarded an IETA grant check for BotBalls for her classroom.
The meeting adjourned to an executive session for John Rehder’s principal evaluation. After returning to open session, Rehder was approved for a 2-year contract. 
Rehder discussed the proposed new funding formula.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:13 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m.
