Lady Pirates still alive at District
The Prairie Lady Pirates split their final two regular season matches and then won 2 of their first 3 matches at District.
The won at Lapwai in 4 games, 25-21, 25-19, 18-25, 25-23 on Tuesday, Oct. 15 then lost to Grangeville on Senior Night, 27-29, 23-25, 25-10, 25-14, 7-15.
At District they opened with a 3 game sweep of Lapwai 25-16, 27-25, 25-18, and then lost a 3-game sweep to Troy, 15-25, 7-25, 11-25, with both matches on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the LCSC Activity Center. On Monday, Oct. 21, they stayed alive in District play by beating Clearwater Valley 25-15, 25-23, 21-25, 25-14.
They were to play Lapwai again on Tuesday evening. If they won that match they will play Wallace at Post Falls Middle School Thursday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. With a win in that match they would play the District 4-5-6 runner-up Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. MDT at Boise’s Timberline High School for a berth at State.
At Lapwai
In their final league match of the season Prairie ruined Lapwai’s senior night with a 4-set win. Delanie Lockett goes for a spike at Lapwai.
In the opening game Lapwai took early leads of 0-3 and 4-8 before Delanie Lockett scored a kill for a sideout. Sierra McWilliams served Prairie into an 8-8 tie with an ace plus a kill each by Ellea Uhlenkott and Lockett. 
Lapwai took back the lead and warded off Prairie each time they tied it until Lockett served 3 aces in a row for a 14-11 lead.
Lapwai came back to take the lead at 18-19 before Ashton Landers scored a kill for a sideout to tie it.
Erin Chmelik then served Prairie into the lead. She had 2 aces and Lockett added a kill for a 22-19 lead.
After 3 straight sideouts, Madison Shears scored a sideout kill and then Uhlenkott scored on a tip to win the game.
Lapwai again took the early lead in the second game, leading by as many as 4 at 1-5 and 3-7.
Prairie got back within 1 at 11-12 on a sideout kill by Halle Klapprich. That sent Chmelik to the service line for 4 aces plus a kill each by Shears and Hope Schwartz as Prairie took a 17-12 lead.
Prairie was able to hold off Lapwai the rest of the way with Schwartz serving an ace for the game-winner.
Prairie put some subs in for the third game and actually scored first and took a 3-1 lead.
A 6-point service run by Lapwai turned the game around and put the Wildcats into the lead for good as Lapwai went on to win by 7 after leading by as many as 8.
The fourth game saw the teams battle back and forth. Prairie took an early 5-2 lead but Lapwai came back to lead 9-10 and 10-11. 
Prairie bounced back for an 18-15 lead as Tara Schlader and Josie Remacle each won a joust at the net. A missed serve ended that run and Lapwai came back with 4 aces plus a kill for an 18-21 lead.
At 19-22, Lapwai bricked a serve and Chmelik then served 3 straight aces. After a disputed call led to a reserve, Lockett scored on a spike to the corner to get to match point at 24-22.
Lapwai fought off one match point before Lockett scored the match winner.
Lockett had 13 kills in the match plus 1 assist and 4 aces. Schlader had 9 kills and an assist. Shears had 6 kills and 10 assists. Uhlenkott had 6 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Remacle had 4 kills and an assist. McWilliams had 3 kills and 3 aces. Klapprich had 3 kills and 1 assist. Landers had 2 kills, 9 assists and 5 aces. Schwartz had 2 kills, 19 assists and 5 aces. Brooklyn Riener had 2 kills. Sydnee Bruegeman had 1 kill. Chmelik had 8 aces and an assist.
The JV team won all 3 of their games, 25-19, 25-9, 19-17.
Prairie took an early lead in the opener but Lapwai rallied to take an 8-9 lead before missing a serve. Olivia Klapprich served Prairie back to an 11-9 lead which Prairie never gave back.
A 3-point run by Kristin Wemhoff pushed the lead from 12-10 to 15-10 as Tara Schlader, Jade Prigge and Wemhoff each had a kill.
Lapwai cut the lead to 2 at 17-15 then missed a serve and Schlader served Prairie to a 21-15 lead with an ace plus 2 kills by Prigge.
Lapwai cut the lead down to 3 at 21-18 and again at 22-19 before a missed serve sent Klapprich back to the service line for 2 aces to finish off the game.
It was Klapprich at the service line where Prairie opened up the lead in the second game. 
It was 9-7 when Schlader scored a kill on a free ball to send Klapprich to the line where she served 10 straight points. She had 5 aces with Laney Forsmann adding 3 kills while Schlader and Mackenzie Key had 1 kill each as Prairie took a 20-7 lead.
After a pair of sideouts, Wemhoff served an ace and Riley Enneking added a kill to make it 23-8.
After 2 more sideouts, Enneking served up an ace to clinch the match.
The third game saw several lead changes and was close throughout.
Lapwai had the first chance at game point at 13-14 but served into the net. An ace by Enneking gave Prairie a game point chance.
Lapwai fought that off and then scored a kill for a 15-16 lead. A tip for a kill by Wemhoff tied it and Prigge scored a kill to make it 17-16.
Lapwai tied it again but then missed their serve. Julia Rehder wound up scoring the match-ending kill.
Vs. Grangeville
Seniors Riener, Bruegeman, Landers and Chmelik were honored prior to the match against Grangeville.
The match followed the same pattern as their earlier bout with Grangeville winning the first two games then Prairie coming back to win the next two and force a fifth and deciding game. Grangeville then won game 5 to win the match.
Prairie ends their regular season with a 6-8 overall record and a 6-6 record in league, good for 4th place.
Prairie swept Grangeville in the JV match and Grangeville won the C match 1 game to 2.
Vs. Lapwai at District
Prairie matched up with Lapwai in their District opener after having played them just a few days earlier.

Prairie took a 10-9 lead on a sideout kill by Schwartz and then McWilliams served them to a 16-9 lead. She had 5 aces and Uhlenkott added a kill.
The teams then traded points until Remacle scored on a block and Lockett followed with an ace to make it 24-15.
Lapwai scored a sideout but Lockett then scored the game winning kill from the back row.
The second game saw Chmelik serve Prairie to a 4-1 lead as Lockett scored 2 kills and Klapprich and Uhlenkott each added 1.
Lapwai came back to take a 6-9 lead before missing a serve. Lockett then served 9 straight for a 16-9 lead. She had 6 aces with Klapprich adding 2 kills and McWilliams 1.
Lapwai countered with 3 straight aces as they cut the lead to 16-14.
Lapwai eventually rallied back to take the lead at 23-24 before serving into the net when they had a chance to win it. Prairie countered by serving into the net themselves. Lapwai then served one long to make it 25-25.
With Lockett serving a hit by Klapprich led to a Lapwai net violation. Lockett then finished off the game with an ace.
In the third game Prairie subbed in a couple of senior bench players along with a freshman.
It didn’t start well as Lapwai jumped out to a 4-7 lead.
Lapwai held the lead as late as 14-15 after a free ball kill by Riener. Chmelik went to the service line for 2 aces plus 2 kills each by Uhlenkott and Lockett as the Pirates took a 21-15 lead.
Lapwai got back within 3 at 21-18 when Lockett scored a sideout kill.
Prairie then finished off the match with 3 more kills, 1 each by Bruegeman, Shears and Lockett.
Lockett had 16 kills and 9 aces in the match to lead the team in both categories. Uhlenkott added 9 kills. Klapprich had 6 kills. Shears had 4 kills and 19 assists. McWilliams had 3 kills, 2 assists and 7 aces. Schwartz had 3 kills and 2 assists. Riener had 3 kills. Bruegeman had 2 kills. Remacle had 1 block. Landers had 19 assists and 1 ace. Chmelik had 3 aces.
Vs. Troy at District
Troy showed Prairie why they were undefeated in league play and the #1 seed into District as they pounded the Lady Pirates into submission.
In the opening game Prairie had a tie score at 1-1 after a missed serve by Troy but that was the only time they didn’t trail as Morgan Blazzard and Lindsey Kwate pounded the air out of the ball and very rarely missed on a spike.
The second game saw Prairie at least take an early lead as a kill each by Landers, Uhlenkott and Shears plus an ace by Chmelik gave Prairie a 4-1 lead.
That didn’t last long though as Troy came back with 4 straight points before Uhlenkott scored on a block to tie it at 5-5.
Lockett answered a kill by Kwate with one of her own to tie it at 6-6.
Unfortunately that moved Blazzard into the front row and she was definitely on her game with kills on 4 of the next 6 Troy points and induced Prairie net violations on the other two.
Prairie scored their last point of the game on a kill by Remacle that made it 7-12. A missed serve followed and Troy served the next 12 straight points to close out the game as Blazzard added 5 more kills.
In the third game Prairie fell behind 0-6 at the start but got back within 2 at 7-9 after 2 aces by Shears and 2 blocks by Remacle.
Troy then put together a 9-point service run to take an 11 point lead and went on to win by 14.
Remacle led Prairie with 6 kills, which included 3 blocks. Uhlenkott had 4 kills including a block. Schwartz had 3 kills and 1 assist. Landers had 2 ikills and 6 assists. Klapprich had 2 kills. Shears had 1 kill, 4 assists and 2 aces. Lockett had 1 kill and 2 aces. McWilliams had 1 kill, 2 assists and 1 ace. Riener had 1 kill. Chmelik had 1 ace and 1 assist.
Vs. C.V. at District
Prairie started well in the first game as Landers served 3 straight aces and Uhlenkott added a kill for a 4-0 lead. Ashton Landers dives after the ball to make a set in the C.V. match. In the background is Ellea Uhlenkott.
C.V. came right back to tie it at 4 but a kill by Klapprich kept them from taking the lead.
Prairie held a slim lead until C.V. tied it at 12. A kill by Remacle again kept them from taking the lead. McWilliams then took over at the service line for 5 straight. She had 3 aces and Klapprich and Uhlenkott each added a kill for an 18-12 lead.
After 4 straight sideouts left the lead at 20-14, Chmelik stepped up and served out the game. She had an ace then Uhlenkott scored 2 straight kills. Chmelik then served 2 more aces to end the game.
In the second game Uhlenkott serve 2 aces and Shears added a block as Prairie took a 7-3 lead. C.V. answered right back and wound up taking a 10-16 lead.
A tip by Shears sent Landers to the service line and she served the Pirates back into a tie at 16. She had 2 aces while Chmelik, McWilliams and Landers each added a kill.
6 straight sideouts ensued as Prairie couldn’t retake the lead. They finally did at 20-19 on an ace by Shears but C.V. answered with 4 straight points for a 20-23 edge.
A dig by McWilliams wound up being a kill and Lockett then served out the game. She had 2 aces, Shears scored a kill and Lockett served another ace for the game-winner.
With a 2 games to none lead coach Schumacher subbed in the bench players to make sure everybody got floor time. 
The two teams played pretty much even until C.V. started to pull away late. At 9-11 C.V. scored 5 of the next 6 points for a 10-16 edge.
Prairie was able to get back within 2 at 15-17 and again at 20-22 and 21-23 but C.V. was able to score the final 2 points to extend the match.
In the fourth game McWilliams scored a kill to open the game and Landers followed with an ace for a 2-0 lead.
C.V. came back to take leads of 2-3 and 3-4 before a block by Shears tied it at 4.
Uhlenkott then served an ace, Lockett scored 2 kills and Uhlenkott served another ace for an 8-4 lead. 
The lead held at 2 to 4 points until Uhlenkott’s next service turn. She took over after a sideout kill by Lockett made it 16-13. 
Prairie got some solid net play in Uhlenkott’s 5-point run with Shears scoring 2 kills and a block with Remacle and Lockett each adding a kill for a 21-13 lead.
Uhlenkott missed her next serve but Lockett scored a kill to send Shears to the line. A kill each by Lockett, Remacle and Schlader gave Prairie the match.
Shears wound up with 12 kills, including 3 blocks, plus 14 assists and 4 aces. Lockett had 11 kills, 1 assist and 5 aces. Remacle had 7 kills, including a block. McWilliams had 6 kills, 1 assist and 7 aces. Uhlenkott had 6 kills, 1 assist and 4 aces. Bruegeman had 4 kills. Landers had 2 kills, 18 assists and 6 aces. Chmelik had 2 kills, 3 assists and 4 aces. Schlader had 2 kills and 3 assists. Klapprich and Riener each had 2 kills. Schwartz had 2 assists.
Prairie was 8-9 on the season heading into Tuesday’s match which occurred after the Chronicle went to press.
Update: Prairie lost to Lapwai Tuesday evening to finish fourth at District and end their season with an 8-10 record. Details next week.
