Lady Pirates finish fourth at District
The Prairie Lady Pirates volleyball season came to an end Tuesday, Oct. 22, as they lost to Lapwai in the third place match 21-25, 25-14, 25-27, 25-22, 12-15.
That gave Prairie a fourth place finish in the District Tournament. They had lost to a team they had beaten 3 times this sMadison Shears goes for a spike against Lapwai at District.eason, twice in the previous 7 days.
Lapwai went on to beat Wallace in a regional play-in and then lost to Butte County in a state play-in. Troy beat Genesee in the District Championship. Both of those teams advance to State.
In the opening game you could see this match might be different than the last couple against Lapwai as Prairie led at just one point in the game, 7-6 after a kill by Josie Remacle. Lapwai answered that with a kill and an ace. 
Prairie tied it at 8 with another kill be Remacle but Lapwai scored the next 4 points and never trailed again.
Prairie scored first in the second game on a kill by Halle Klapprich. She added another kill and Ashton Landers served an ace as Prairie took a 3-0 lead.
Prairie never trailed in this game as they took an 8-3 lead on an ace by Madison Shears plus a kill by Delanie Lockett.
They made it 11-4 on an ace by Lockett and a kill by Shears.
Lapwai was able to get back within 4 at 14-10 and 15-11 but Ellea Uhlenkott scored a sideout kill and Erin Chmelik served 4 straight to push the lead to 9 at 20-11. She had 1 ace while Lockett added 2 kills and Shears the other.
At 20-13 Uhlenkott scored on a tip for a sideout and then nearly served out the game. She had an ace while Shears and Lockett each added a kill to make it 24-13. After a sideout Shears set up Lockett for the game-ending kill.
The third game turned out to be the pivotal game.
Prairie jumped out to a 4-1 lead on 3 aces by Chmelik.
Lapwai came back to take their first lead at 9-10. The rest of the game saw the serve go back and forth as the score was tied 14 times with neither side getting more than 2 points ahead.
Lapwai had their first game-point chance at 22-24 but Remacle scored a kill for the sideout and Shears served an ace to tie it.
Lapwai scored a sideout for another game-point chance but Remacle answered with a kill to tie it at 25. Lapwai then scored the next 2 points to pull out the win and take a 2 games to 1 lead.
If that game had gone the other way, Prairie might have won it in 4 games.
In the fourth game Prairie took a 6-3 lead with an ace each by Landers and Chmelik plus 2 kills by Shears and a kill each by Landers and Uhlenkott.
2 kills by Lockett plus a kill by Remacle made it 9-4 and a block by Remacle and an ace by Shears made it 11-5.
Lapwai came back to cut the lead to 11-9 and then tied it at 16-16.
The Wildcats took their first lead since 0-1 at 18-19 then missed a serve.
An ace by Lockett put Prairie back on top but Lapwai again tied it at 20-20.
Klapprich scored a kill on a service dig and Uhlenkott added a kill for a 22-20 lead.
After 4 straight sideouts the score stood at 24-22 and Chmelik served an ace to even the match at 2 games each.
In the deciding fifth game Lapwai took a 0-2 lead but Prairie came back and took a 9-5 lead after 2 aces by Uhlenkott and a block by Remacle.
Lapwai answered with 5 straight points to retake the lead at 9-10.
Prairie held a 12-11 lead after a sideout tip by Remacle and a kill by Shears. Prairie then lost the serve on a double hit violation and Lapwai was able to serve out the match.
Reamcle had 17 kills in the match including 3 blocks. Lockett had 17 kills, 4 assists and 2 aces. Shears had 14 kills, 22 assists and 5 aces. Uhlenkott had 11 kills, including a block plus 5 aces. Klapprich had 10 kills. Landers had 4 kills, 34 assists and 2 aces. Hope Schwartz had 3 kills and 2 assists. Sierra McWilliams had 1 kill, 1 assists and 2 aces. Chmelik had 1 assist and 6 aces.
Prairie’s season ends with an 8-10 record.

Erin Chmelik’s serving kept Prairie in the match against Lapwai as she led the team with 6 aces and was the server for 14 of Prairie’s points in the match.
