Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of games over teams with Bulldog mascots last week. On Tuesday, Dec. 3 they beat Genesee 57-33 in a league game at Cottonwood. On Friday, Dec. 6, they avenged their only loss so far this season by beating Grangeville 43-34 in the Idaho County Shootout which was held at Cottonwood this year.

Genesee’s offense was dominated by Bailey Leseman who led all scorers with 27 points. Unfortunately for Genesee the rest of their team could muster only 7 points.
Prairie jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the game as Ellea Uhlenkott, Ciara Chaffee and India Peery each scored a basket. 
Leseman scored a 3-pointer to get Genesee on the board but Prairie then scored the next 11 straight points for a 17-3 lead. Uhlenkott sank 2 free throws and Peery converted a 3-pont play. Madison Shears made a free throw then Delanie Lockett score a basket and Peery finished off the run with a 3-pointer before Leseman scored again to break the run.
Uhlenkott added a basket and a 3-pointer while Shears and Chaffee each added a basket as Prairie led 26-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Chaffee scored the first 3 points of the second quarter, all on free throws. Uhlenkott added a basket after a steal and Kristin Wemhoff added a free throw as Prairie extended the lead to 32-12. The scoring was even the rest of the half as Prairie took a 39-19 lead into the break.
Both side suffered cold shooting in the third quarter as Genesee hit just 1 of 11 shots while Prairie was a little better at 2 for 8. One of Prairie’s 2 baskets happened to be a 3-pointer by Chaffee while Peery was 4 for 4 at the line in the quarter as Prairie outscored Genesee 9-7 as Genesee was 5 for 7 in the quarter at the line. Prairie took a 48-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
Lockett opened the fourth quarter scoring with a basket. Leseman then scored 5 straight points for Genesee but Prairie answered with a 6-0 run with Shears scoring 5 of those 6 to push the lead to 56-31.
Leseman added a free throw and a basket and Tara Schlader scored a free throw to finish off the game.
Shears, Uhlenkott and Peery each scored 13 points to lead the team and Chaffee was also in double figures with 10. Lockett added 6 points and Wemhoff and Schlader scored 1 each.
Prairie had a 48-43 edge on the boards led by Schlader who had 12 rebounds. Chaffee added 9 and Uhlenkott 8.
Uhlenkott and Shears each had 6 steals and Peery added 4. Uhlenkott also had 6 assists.
Prairie was 17 for 54 from the field, 31%, and 19 for 32 at the line, 59%. Genesee was 9 for 54 from the field, 17%, and 16 for 22 at the line, 73%.
In the JV game Prairie routed Genesee 67-17.
Prairie jumped out to a 17-5 lead and led 23-12 at the end of the first quarter as Molly Johnson scored 7 points and Josie Remacle and Hope Schwartz each scored 6 while Laney Forsmann scored the other 4 points.
Prairie had scoring runs of 6 and 12 in the second quarter as they took a 41-14 lead by halftime. Remacle added another 6 points in the quarter while Ali Rehder scored 6 as well. Rehder also hit a 3-pointer.
Prairie shut out Genesee in the third quarter 18-0 as they had a scoring run of 30 points that last from the 4:34 mark of the second quarter to the 7:45 mark of the fourth.
Remacle added 8 more points in the third quarter to win up with a game-high 20. 
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and Olivia Klapprich scored 6 of Prairie’s 8 points while Riley Enneking scored the other 2 as Prairie went on to win by 50.
As mentioned, Remacle topped the scoring with 20 points with Johnson and Schwartz each adding 12. Klapprich scored 9, Rehder 6 and Forsmann and Enneking 4 each.
Prairie had a 48-42 rebounding edge led by Johnson who had 12. Remacle added 8 rebounds.
Johnson had 6 steals while Klapprich and Forsmann added 5 each as Prairie forced 35 turnovers. Forsmann and Klapprich each had 2 assists.
The JV’s were 28 for 75 from the field, 37%, and 10 for 19 at the line, 53%. Genesee was 7 for 36 from the field, 19%, and 2 for 8 at the line, 25%.

Vs. Grangeville
10 days earlier Prairie had lost at Grangeville 45-47. At the Idaho County Shootout, Prairie ended the first half with an 8-0 run that gave them the lead for good as they won 43-34.
Seniors Peery and Chaffee had combined for just 9 points at Grangeville but came up big this time with 13 points each with Chaffee scoring 8 in the first half and Peery 9 in the second half.
PMadison Shears drives past a Grangeville defender during the Idaho County Shootout.eery scored the game’s first points on an inbounds feed from Uhlenkott. Grangeville answered with 4 points to take the lead but Uhlenkott scored on a putback and Chaffee added 2 free throws for a 6-4 lead.
Grangeville tied it late to make it 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, a far cry from the 6-19 lead Grangeville had the first game at that point.
Shears opened the second quarter scoring with a 3-pointer and Chaffee added a lay-up for an 11-6 lead. Grangeville answered with 5 straight points to make it 11-12 with 4:41 left in the half.
Prairie shut out Grangeville the rest of the half while scoring 8 straight points. Perry put the Pirates back on top with a bank shot and Chaffee added a pair of lay-ups. Shears sank both ends of a 1 and 1 to give Prairie a 19-12 lead at the half.
Prairie made it 11 straight points by scoring the first 3 of the third quarter as Shears scored a basket and Peery a free throw for a 22-12 lead. A basket each by Chaffee and Lockett and a 3 by Peery put Prairie up 29-15 late in the third quarter.
Grangeville got a 3 from Camden Barger to close out the quarter with Prairie up by 11 at 29-18.
Barger sank another 3 to open the fourth but Peery was fouled on a drive to the hoop and converted a 3-point play to put Prairie back up by 11.
After a Grangeville free throw, Chaffee converted a 3-point play to make it 35-22.
Grangeville managed to cut the lead to 7 at 39-32 and again at 40-33 but could get no closer. 
Shears sank 2 free throws to put Prairie up by 9 with 36 seconds left. Each team added a free throw in the final 22 seconds for the final tallies.
Peery and Chaffee led the scoring with 13 points each while Shears was also in double figures with 10. Lockett scored 3 while Uhlenkott and Wemhoff added 2 each.
Grangeville had the rebounding edge 31-34. Peery led Prairie with 8 rebounds while Chaffee and Uhlenkott each had 7. Zoe Lutz led the Bulldogs with 12.
Peery, Uhlenkott and Chaffee had 2 steals each while Peery and Uhlenkott each had 4 assists.
Prairie cut their turnovers against Grangeville from over 30 in the first game to just 17 this time, while forcing Grangeville into 21 turnovers.
Prairie was 14 for 38 from the field, 37%, and 13 for 23 at the line, 57%. Grangeville was 9 for 42 from the field, 21%, and 13 for 21 at the line, 62%.
Prairie is now 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
The JV played Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Grangeville and won their game 48-14, outscoring Grangeville 30-0 in the second half.
