Pirates win at Kamiah
The Prairie Lady Pirates played 3 league road games this past week and won 2 out of the 3. They didn’t start so well as Lapwai completed a season sweep 42-60 at Lapwai Thursday, Jan. 16. On Friday, Jan. 17, they traveled to Potlatch and blitzed the Loggers 92-37. Finally on Monday, Jan. 20, they traveled to Genesee to make up a postponed game and won 71-56. The win at Genesee essentially clinched a second place finish in league for Prairie. The Pirates would have to lose all three of their remaining league games to drop to third.  he

quarter and led 14-32 at the half.
The two teams each scored 28 points in the second half. Madison Shears scored over half of Prairie’s points in the game as she scored a game-high 22 with three 3-pointers and was 9 of 12 at the free throw line. Ciara Chaffee scored 8 with India Peery, Kristin Wemhoff and Ellea Uhlenkott each adding 4 points. They led 75-31 after 3 quarters and then added 17 more in a running clock fourth quarter as they outscored Potlatch 17-6 in the final frame. Prairie had 5 players score in double figures led by Shears with 17 points. Uhlenkott and Peery scored 14 each and Delanie Lockett and Chaffee each scored 12. Sydnee Bruegeman was just shy of double figures with 9 points on 4 for 4 shooting. Wemhoff scored 8, Hope Schwartz 3, Josie Remacle 2 and Tara Schlader 1. Chaffee had 8 rebounds and Lockett had 8 steals plus 8 rebounds. Lockett, Shears and Peery each had a pair of 3-pointers. The JV team also won big, 62-18. The big difference was the referees calling a foul seemingly every time two players got close to each other. Genesee was whistled for 32 fouls in the game while Prairie had 25. Each team had 2 players foul out.  Prairie
won the game at the free throw line by hitting 19 of 22 attempts in the
fourth quarter to help turn a 4-point game into a 15-point blowout. Genesee
was just 2 for 7 at the line in the fourth quarter.
Prairie took a 6-4 lead early on after a 3 by Shears but Genesee responded with a 0-7 run to take a 6-11 lead. After it was 9-13, Prairie put together an 11-0 run to take a 20-13 lead. Chaffee scored a pair of baskets and Wemhoff hit a 3 to put Prairie up 16-13. Schlader scored inside and then Wemhoff stole the ball and drove for a lay-up. Genesee scored a pair of free throws to make it 20-15 at the end of the first quarter. Genesee was 6 for 6 in the first quarter at the line as two Prairie players picked up 3 quick fouls. The second quarter started the free throw fest in earnest as Prairie attempted 12 free throws, making 8, and Genesee attempts 13 free throws, making 5. Prairie had 15 fouls called on them in the half while Genesee had 11. Each team made just 3 baskets in the half but Prairie was able to take a 36-26 halftime lead as 2 of their 3 baskets were 3-pointers, both by Peery and made back-to-back within 30 seconds of each other to turn a 3-point edge into a 9-point lead. Genesee turned things around coming out of the half as they started the second half with a 1-14 run to take a 37-40 lead with 1:45 left in the third quarter. Coach Lori Mader called a timeout and got her team turned around as they finished the quarter with a 7-0 run to retake the lead, 44-40, heading into the fourth quarter. Uhlenkott opened the fourth quarter scoring with a drive for a lay-up and was fouled, converting the 3 point play. Peery added 2 free throws 20 seconds later for a 49-40 lead. After a Genesee basket, Prairie scored 9 straight points, the first 5 at the line, to take a 58-42 lead with 5:20 to play. Prairie would make just 1 more basket the rest of the game as 11 of their final 13 points were free throws. Genesee rallied to cut the lead to 9 at 59-50 with 4:21 to play but Prairie then put together a 12-1 run to make it 71-54 with 1:31 to play. Peery started the rally with 2 free throws. Shears then drove in for the only basket of the run. Peery sank another free throw. Genesee scored a free throw then Lockett scored at the line. Wemhoff made a pair of free throws and Lockett added 2 more to make it 71-51. Genesee scored a 3-pointer and then a putback to make the final margin 15. Shears led all scorers with 20 points with Peery adding 17. Uhlenkott scored 11 with Wemhoff adding 9. Lockett and Chaffee each scored 5 while Schlader and Josie Remacle each scored 2. Prairie dominated the boards 50-31 with Peery grabbing 11 and Uhlenkott 10 as both had double-doubles. Shears added 8 rebounds. Peery had 4 steals while Shears and Uhlenkott each had 4. Uhlenkott had 4 assists to lead the team. Prairie was 17 for 45 from the field, 38%, and 32 for 49 at the line, 65%. Genesee was 19 for 54 from the field, 35%, and 13 for 31 at the line, 42%. Genesee started the game 6 for 6 at the line which means they hit just 7 for 25 after that. They were 2 for 10 in the second half. Prairie is now 11-3 on the season and 7-2 in league play. The JV team allowed Genesee just 1 basket and 4 free throws for the entire game as they rolled to a 62-6 win. Prairie scored the first 28 points of the game as they led 24-0 at the end of the first quarter and scored the first 4 points in the second. Hope Schwartz had 10 first quarter points on 4 of 5 shooting which included a pair of 3-pointers. Ali Rehder and Laney Forsmann each added 6 points. Genesee finally got on the board with a free throw at the 5:12 mark of the second quarter. They scored 2 more at the line to make it 28-3 then Prairie scored the final 7 points of the half for a 35-3 lead. Rehder had 4 more points in the second quarter while Josie Remacle scored 3. Prairie scored the first 13 points of the second half to make it a 20-0 run. Schwartz added 2 more 3’s in that run while Molly Johnson scored 3 and Forsmann and Olivia Klapprich added 2 each. Genesee’s only point of the quarter came on a free throw with 3:14 left. Johnson and Chloe Rowland then each scored a basket to give Prairie a 52-4 lead after 3 quarters which means the fourth was played with a running clock. Rehder hit a 3-pointer to open the fourth and Remacle added a free throw for a 56-4 lead. Genesee then made their only basket of the game. Prairie scored the final 6 points to close out the win. Schwartz had 16 points including 4 for 4 from 3-point range to lead the scoring. Rehder was right behind with 15 points. Forsmann scored 10, Remacle 8, Johnson 7, Klapprich 4 and Rowland 2. Prairie dominated the boards 38-24 with Johnson pulling down 9 rebounds and Remacle 8. Rehder had 8 steals while Forsmann and Klapprich had 5 each. Rehder and Forsmann each had 3 assists. Prairie was 26 for 57 from the field, 46%, and 5 for 13 at the line, 38%. Genesee was 1 for 26 from the field, 4%, and 4 for 9 at the line, 44%.
