Lady Patriots lose to Kendrick
The St. John Bosco girls hosted the league leading Kendrick Tigers Tuesday, Jan. 21 and lost 32-60.Lexi Currier handles the ball against Kendrick. Jessie Sonnen can also be seen.
Kendrick scored first then the Patriots took the lead on a basket by Jade Prigge and a free throw by Erin Chmelik.
Kendrick then took control outscoring SJB 3-17 the rest of the first quarter. Lexi Currier hit a 3 for the Patriots only points in that run.
The second quarter saw SJB play a little closer as they were outscored by 11-13. Chmelik scored 4 points in the quarter while Makayla Rose banked in a 3-pointer and Dani and Jessie Sonnen each scored 2 points.
The Patriots trailed 17-32 at the half.
Currier added a pair of 3 points and Chmelik a free throw in the third quarter that made it 24-37 then Kendrick reeled off 12 straight points to close out the quarter and take a 24-49 lead into the fourth.
Kendrick stretched the lead to 29 with a pair of baskets to open the fourth but Prigge answered with a free throw and Chmelik a 12-foot jumper. Kendrick then hit a 3 and a 2 to push the lead to 31 and invoke the running clock for the final 2:53 of the game.
Chmelik scored a basket and Prigge converted a 3-point play for the Patriots final points of the game.
Chmelik led the scoring for SJB with 10 points while Currier scored 9 on three 3-pointers. Prigge scored 6 with Rose scoring 3 and Dani and Jessie Sonnen 2 each.
Chmelik and Prigge had 8 rebounds each to lead SJB while Kendrick had a 30-40 edge on the boards.
Chmelik had 2 steals and Dani Sonnen had 4 assists.
SJB was 12 for 42 from the field, 29%, and 4 for 7 at the line, 57%. Kendrick was 22 for 64 from the field, 34%, and 8 for 12 at the line, 67%.
St. John Bosco is now 3-6 on the season and in league play.
The boys team defeated the Kendrick JV boys 48-30.
