Lady Pirates clinch State Berth
The Prairie Lady Pirates beat Kamiah 68-10 Tuesday, Feb. 4, and Genesee 48-33 Wednesday, Feb. 5 at District to clinch a berth in the state tournament and advance to the District Championship game. The games were played at the LCSC Activity Center.
They were to play Lapwai for the District Championship for the 7th straight year on Tuesday, Feb. 11. This will be Prairie’s 10th straight trip to State.
Vs. Kamiah
The game against 7th seeded Kamiah went about like it was expected to as Prairie outscored the Kubs 20-0 Ellea Uhlenkott puts up a shot against Kamiah at District. Ciara Chaffee can be seen in the background.in the first quarter and led 31-0 before Kamiah was able to dent the scoreboard with 1:49 left in the half.
Ellea Uhlenkott and India Peery each scored 7 points for Prairie in the first quarter.
In the second quarter Madison Shears got hot, hitting 5 straight shots, the first of which was a 3-pointer.
Prairie led 39-3 at the half.
Kamiah was able to score 7 points in the third quarter as Prairie backed off on the defensive intensity but were still outscored 21-7 as Prairie took a 60-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
Prairie’s subs outscored the Kubs 8-0 in the running clock fourth period.
Shears scored 18 points to lead Prairie in scoring with Peery adding 15 and Uhlenkott 11. Delanie Lockett and Tara Schlader scored 6 points each while Josie Remacle scored 4, Kristin Wemhoff and Hope Schwartz 3 each and Ciara Chaffee 2.
Prairie outrebounded the Kubs 37-30 with Uhlenkott grabbing 10 to complete a double-double.
Shears and Peery each had 7 steals as Kamiah was forced into 40 turnovers. Uhlenkott had 4 steals and 7 assists.
Prairie was 28 for 68 from the field, 41%, and 7 for 14 at the line, 50%. Kamiah was 3 for 27 from the field, 11%, and 4 for 8 at the line, 50%.

Vs. Genesee
In the #2 vs. #3 matchup with a state berth on the line, Prairie broke open a back and forth game in the third quarter and pulled away for a 15-point win over Genesee.
TCiara Chaffee had a big game against Genesee to help Prairie clinch a berth in the state tournament.he Bulldogs scored first but Prairie answered with Lockett scoring a pair of baskets on feeds from Uhlenkott. Uhlenkott then stole the ball and fed to Peery for another basket. Chaffee made it 8-2 when she scored on a feed from Lockett.
Genesee answered back with a 2-8 run to tie the game at 10-10.  A steal by Peery led to a basket by Wemhoff but Genesee answered with 2 free throws.
Wemhoff drive in for a basket to give Prairie a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Uhlenkott scored to open the second quarter but Genesee responded with 5 straight points to retake the lead at 16-17.
Chaffee then scored on a feed from Shears to put Prairie back on top. Then Chaffee passed from the post out to Shears for a 3-pointer to make it 21-17.
After a Genesee basket, Prairie scored 6 straight for a 27-19 lead. Wemhoff scored a lay-up, Chaffee had 2 free throws and Peery a basket during that run. Genesee ended the run with a 3-pointer by Bailey Leseman. Lockett answered with a basket and Leseman closed out the half with a free throw as Prairie led 29-23 at the break.
Shears opened the second half with a 3-pointer but Genesee answered with 4 straight points to make it 32-27.
Prairie then held Genesee scoreless for the final 5 minutes of the third quarter while scoring 9 to take a 41-27 lead into the fourth quarter. Shears scored 4 of those points and Peery 3 with Lockett adding the other 2. 5 of Prairie’s 9 points in that run came at the line where they were 5 for 6.
Genesee never got any closer than 13 in the fourth quarter as Prairie worked the clock and went to the free throw line where they made just 3 of 7 but it was enough to maintain their lead.
Shears wound up with 13 points to lead the scoring. Chaffee scored 12 and had 14 rebounds. She was 3 for 5 from the field and 6 for 8 at the line. Lockett scored 10 with Wemhoff adding 6, Peery 5 and Uhlenkott 2.
Genesee edged Prairie on the boards 33-34.
Peery and Lockett each had 3 steals while Shears had 4 assists and Uhlenkott and Lockett had 3 each.
Prairie was 18 for 43 from the field, 42%, and 10 for 16 at the line, 63%. Genesee was 11 for 45 from the field, 24%, and 10 for 15 at the line, 67%.
Prairie is now 18-3 on the season.
