Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle:

Redneck Review!
No. 250 - 2/10/2020
Sometimes lit makes sense to "Dig a little Deeper!"  That is the purpose of this RNR 250, continuing a  nearly five year effort dealing with topics important to our country's survival!
In review 247, research told us that Christianity was the religion with the most followers around the world today, with Islam coming in second.  Noted also,  that the class called "Nonbelievers" represents the third largest group in the world around us.  It was claimed at the time that it is the third group that is causing most of the difficulty we experience in our country today.  And for any who ask why, the answer is found in the simple claim: that this 3rd group of "Unbelievers" are characterized by their claim that they reserve the right to decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong, and secondly, usually have no tolerance for those who disagree with them. To be blunt, it makes them similar to the New Age movement today that hints, (If it does not claim outright),  that each individual is their own god, and can decide themselves matters of morality.
This type of thinking can be seen behind the recent effort to impeach President Trump, an effort which was doomed from the beginning, yet was a major effort for nearly three years of those  who simply could not stand Mr. Trump,  and the fact that he won fair and square in an election determined by the method outlined in our Constitution.  The same method by the way, which has determined every presidential election since the first putting Gorge Washington in office.; Those who know the Constitution knew that it was a failed effort from the beginning, because the Constitution requires 67 Senate votes to throw a president from office, something which was not going to happen with Republicans controlling 53 Senate seats.
RNR 248 also claimed  that traditional Capitalism was and still is the driving force behind the unparalleled success the U.S.A has experienced over the past several hundred years, and that Socialism, though the choice of many presidential candidates today, is a failed system that has destroyed the economy of modern Venezuela, and EVERY SINGLE attempt made in the past when tried as an economic system.  Favored by a majority of the press and many of our universities, this system is making a concerted effort to take over our country today.
So what can be found by "digging deeper," and noting things from the past that support the claims made above?  The evidence is there and is overwhelming!  In my own life for example, attending the first grade in a public school in Stites, Idaho, where my mother was the 7th/8th grade teacher, every class, including our 12 member first grade, began the day with the biblical "Our Father!"  And attending Grangeville Public School in the 5th grade, our classes listened to a Bible reading at the beginning of each day.  And older people in this area know that public schools in Greencreek and Ferdinand were taught by Catholic Benedictine nuns, and prayer was resorted to often in those schools.  Finally, in the 1960's, several Supreme Court decisions banned all prayer in schools, including the 22-word prayer: "Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee, and beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, teachers, and our country."
The significance!  Eliminating prayer which was a staple in early America, and a most important ingredient of our early success, replaced the emphasis on Christianity with its "Love God and neighbor as yourself," the Ten Commandments, and the Christian work ethic, with a secular and amoral education that paved the way for our current mentality.  Everyone gets to decide them selves what is right and wrong, acceptable or not!  And those who do,  fall easily into the lure of socialism which promises the good life guaranteed by a benevolent government! Taking from producers by force, and giving to willing takers!  Really?  Does it even have a chance to work!
Common sense and the lessons of history say.... NO!  And so what will we say this Fall?
