Lady Patriots are 1-1 at District
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots, down to just 5 players after an injury to Erin Chmelik, won a loser out game against Deary 42-38 to advance to the double elimination portion of the 1A-D2 District Tournament at Lapwai Thursday, Feb. 6.
On Saturday, Feb. 8 they lost to top seeded Kendrick 34-61.
They were to again Tuesday, Feb. 11 against Logos. With a win there they would play the Kendrick-Nezperce loser Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. for second place and the chance to advance to a state play-in game.
Vs. Deary
Jade Prigge set the tone early for how this game was going to go as she scored the first 5 points on 2 baskets and a free throw. Lexi Currier added a pair of free throws to make it 7-0.Jade Prigge has just put up a shot against Deary and everyone, including Dani Sonnen, 12, watches to see if it went in the basket.
Deary answered with a 2-6 run to trim the lead to 3 but another pair of free throws by Currier made it 11-6 as the first quarter ended.
Deary opened the second quarter scoring but Prigge answered with a putback. Deary then scored 6 straight to take their first lead of the game at 13-15 with 4:09 left in the half.
Prigge scored on a feed from Jessie Sonnen to tie it and then Dani Sonnen scored on a feed from Currier to put Bosco back on top. Deary added a free throw to make it 17-16 at the half.
Currier sank a 3-pointer on an inbounds feed from Jessie Sonnen to open the second half scoring.
Not long after that Dani Sonnen picked up her fourth foul. Normally that’s not a big deal but when you have just 5 available players it is. Dani managed to play the final 14 minutes of the game though without fouling out.
Prigge scored again to make it 22-16. Deary answered but Bosco came back with a 3-pointer by freshman Makayla Rose from the corner on an inbounds play.
A basket by Deary was answered by Prigge who hit from 15 feet out. The two teams alternated baskets the rest of the quarter with Prigge and Dani Sonnen each answering a Deary basket as Bosco took a 31-24 lead into the fourth quarter.
Deary hit a 3-pointer but Prigge answered with a pair of free throws and Currier drove to the hoop for the only Bosco basket of the fourth quarter for a 35-27 lead with 6:21 to play.
Deary put together a 0-5 run to pull within 3 with 1:33 left as Bosco went cold from the field. 
Currier then went to the line in a double bonus situation and sank the first of 2 free throws with 1:11 left. She somehow rebounded her own miss though and got fouled again. This time she sank both free throws to push the lead back to 6 at 38-32.
Deary again hit a 3-pointer to pull back within 3 but a free throw each by Currier and Dani Sonnen made it 40-35 with 33 seconds to play.
Jessie Sonnen then picked up her fourth foul but Deary made just 1 of 2 free throws. Jessie Sonnen rebounded the missed free throw and was fouled. She made both to make it 42-36 with 25 seconds left.
Deary came back with a lay-up but that was it as Bosco held on to win.
Prigge wound up with a double-double to lead the Patriots as she scored 19 points and had 16 rebounds. Currier scored 13 points and had 4 steals and 5 assists. Dani Sonnen scored 5 points with 8 rebounds. Rose scored 3 points and Jessie Sonnen scored 2 points with 5 assists.
Bosco had a 37-34 edge on the boards.
The Patriots were 13 for 36 from the field, 36%, and 14 for 22 at the line, 64%. Deary was 14 for 55 from the field, 25%, and 6 for 12 at the line, 50%.

Vs. Kendrick
In a District semifinal game Saturday, Bosco scored first on a shot inside by Prigge but that turned out to be their only lead of the game as the #1 seeded Tigers took control behind point guard Mya Brown.Jade Prigge sets a pick against Kendrick for Jessie Sonnen at District.
Kendrick tied the score then hit back to back 3-pointers by Brown and Lauren Morgan to take the lead.
Bosco managed to pull back within 1 on a basket by Prigge and a 3 pointer by Jessie Sonnen. Kendrick then scored 8 straight points, all by Brown, as they took a 7-16 lead.
Currier broke the run with a basket but Kendrick answered to take a 9-18 lead after one quarter.
Prigge and Currier each scored early in the second quarter as Bosco cut the deficit to 7 at 12-19 but Kendrick then went on a 0-20 run with Brown scoring half of those points as they turned the game into a runaway. Prigge scored with 34 seconds left in the half to break the drought. That made it 14-39 at the half.
Kendrick left little doubt as to who would win in the third quarter as they hit 8 of 10 shots from the field while Bosco was hitting just 3 of 11 as the Tigers took a 23-56 lead into the fourth quarter. That made it a running clock for the entire fourth period.
Kendrick emptied their bench as reserves played the final period.
Rose wound up picking up her fourth foul early in the fourth quarter and then fouled out with 5:48 to play leaving the Patriots with just 4 players on the floor. Despite that disadvantage they were able to outscore Kendrick 6-3 when they were playing 4 on 5.
Prigge again led the Patriots in scoring with 11 points and had 10 rebounds for another double-double. Currier scored 9 while Jessie Sonnen scored 8 and Dani Sonnen 6 with 9 rebounds.
Bosco held a 29-26 edge on the boards. 
Currier had 2 steals and 3 assists.
Brown led Kendrick with 26 points. No one else scored more than 9 for the Tigers.
Bosco was 13 for 36 from the field, 36%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%. Kendrick was 26 for 48 from the field, 54%, and 3 for 10 at the line, 30%. 
St. John Bosco is now 5-9 on the season.
