Lady Pirates take 2nd at State
The Prairie Lady Pirates took second at State for the fifth time in the past 6 years with 4 of those championship game losses coming to Lapwai.
Prairie opened the tournament against District 4 champion Raft River and pulled out a 45-35 win on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Columbia High School in Nampa. On Friday, Feb. 21, also at Columbia High School, they rallied from as many as 7 points down to beat District 5-6 champion Grace 47-42. Finally on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Idaho Center, they lost to Lapwai 40-46 to place 2nd at State.
Since 1977 Prairie has played in the championship game 19 times, winning 9 and losing 10. We don’t believe any other girls team has as many state championship game appearances.
With their win, Lapwai is the first girls program in the state with 10 championships. Prairie and Coeur d’Alene High School each have 9.
