Hoop Shoot winners
Twelve boys and girls from the Cottonwood area, ages 9 to 14, were named district champions of the 2020 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championships and have earned the right to compete at the state level. Knights of Columbus Council 1389 in Cottonwood sponsored the local competition. All youngsters age 9 to 14 were eligible to participate. 162 competed for the titles. Nine-year-old champions were Reagan Brannan in the girl’s bracket and Samuel Rehder in the boys. Kennedy Riener was the 10-year-old girls champion and Kade Quintal was the boys Champion. In the 11-year-old bracket Hailey Hanson (not pictured) was the girl’s winner and John Lightfield was the boy’s winner. Twelve-year-old winners were Kaylie Lockett in the girls and Tommy Rose in the boys. The 13-year-old competition was won by Isabella Walsh for the girls and Mathew Wemhoff for the boys. Fourteen-year-old champions were Taylor Riener for the girls and Lee Forsmann for the boys. Each contestant was allowed 15 free throws attempts in the contests. Ties were settled by an extra 5 shots each shot following the first 15 free throws. Each of these winners were given the opportunity to compete in the State and National competition and those results will be coming back soon.
