School Board adopts 2020-21 budget
The school board adopted the budget for the 2020-21 school year at their June meeting Monday, June 15.
The full budget of about $4.2 million comes in at just over $1200 less than last year’s budget.
Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann said there were some cuts from the state but those were made up with funds the federally passed CARES Act.
Theresa Chapman was approved as the new special education teacher at the Elementary School.
Seth Guyer, who had been hired as assistant baseball coach, turned in his resignation.
The preschool agreement was approved. Forsmann said it is basically the same as it was last year.
Some high school shop machines were approved as excess items and will be sold on bids. 2 machine lathes and a machine mill were deemed as outdated and unsafe for students by a state inspector but are perfectly fine otherwise.
The board approved the use of the football uniforms and equipment for the team’s football camp which will be in July.
In the facilities report Forsmann noted the Monastery water project has been put off until next summer.
The new bell/intercom system has been replaced and is much more versatile than the old system.
The Elementary Roof work will start in July.
Cracks have been filled in the high school parking lot and resurfacing work is to start July 17. It was last done in July 2013.
The bathrooms at the high school have had some minor repairs done and have been repainted.
A new heating/air conditioning unit will be installed in July in the Elementary music room.
In her principal’s report Forsmann noted Sharon Deimler has been painting, cleaning carpets and waxing floors.
Jennifer Riener is working with Lynn Rehder to transition to Rehder’s Administrative Assistant position. Rehder has announcer her retirement.
In her superintendent’s report Forsmann said she is working with the State Board and the State Health Dept. on re-entry protocols for this upcoming fall.
They have also been taking inventory of the technology devices and replacing and replenishing needed equipment. E-Rate, CARES and technology funds are being used to do this.
Jon Rehder reported the end of the school year went well as did graduation. There were some who wanted to continue with the outdoor ceremony but Rehder said that is not in the plan.
He does have a possible head coach and assistant for junior high football but not confirmed yet.
He hired Shawnda Wright as cheer advisor. She brings a wealth of experience and according to Rehder she is excited to get started.
Denise Mager will return as concessions manager after a 1-year hiatus, with Reed Chapman as high school student assistant. John Mager will also help his wife when needed.
Rehder and Dalton Ross worked together on Ross’ senior project which was to upgrade the floor matting in the high school weight room. They will make it safer for students working out and also make it easier to clean for the custodian.
The meeting adjourned to an executive session at 7:50 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m.
