Lady Pirates are 1-1 on the week
The Prairie Lady Pirates split a pair of road volleyball matches last week. On Tuesday, Sept. 15 they won a non-league match 25-18, 21-25, 25-12, 25-18 at Grangeville. On Thursday, Sept. 17, they lost a league match 17-25, 25-23, 16-25, 18-25 at Genesee.
At Grangeville
In the match at Grangeville, Prairie took control of the opening game when Tara Schlader made a serving run of 12 straight points. A missed serve by Grangeville tied the score at 6-6. Jade Prigge and Ellea Uhlenkott each followed with a kill. After 3 aces by Schlader, Uhlenkott added 2 more kills.  Schlader picked up a kill on a second touch hit. After 2 more aces, Madison Shears added a kill for an 18-6 lead. Schlader ended her own run by serving one long. Delanie Lockett digs a serve at Grangeville.
Grangeville came back and cut the lead down to 4 at 21-17. A kill by Hope Schwartz and an ace by Delanie Lockett made it 23-17. After a Grangeville sideout, Sierra McWilliams had a service dig wind up as a kill and then served up an ace to end the game.
Grangeville bounced back in the second game by getting off to a 0-6 start. Prairie got back within 3-6 but Grangeville then scored 3 straight for a 3-9 lead.
Grangeville expanded the lead to as many as 9 points. Prairie was able to rally back within 3 at 21-24 after a tip by Shears and a kill by Prigge but then had an under the net violation end the game with a Grangeville win.
In the third game Schwartz started Prairie off with a 2 aces. After a sideout, Lockett scored a kill and went to the service line. She served Prairie to an 8-1 lead with 2 aces plus a kill each by Uhlenkott, Shears and McWilliams.
Grangeville trimmed the lead down to 2 at 10-8 before a kill by Prigge sent Shears to the service line. Shears served Prairie to an 18-8 lead with 5 aces plus a pair of kills by Trinity Martinez.
A net violation ended the run but Prigge scored a kill and McWilliams served Prairie to a 22-9 lead on a Schlader kill, an ace and a Lockett kill.
After 2 Grangeville points  they missed a served and Schwartz served an ace for a 24-11 lead.
Grangeville scored a sideout but a kill by Uhlenkott game Prairie a 25-12 win and a 2 games to 1 lead.
In the fourth game Prairie scored first but Grangeville answered with 3 straight points and pretty much led until a sideout kill by Prigge made it 7-8. A kill by Schlader and an ace by Shears made it 9-8.
After Grangeville tied it, Prigge scored a go-ahead kill and McWilliams followed with 3 straight aces for a 13-9 lead.
Grangeville rallied within 1 at 14-13 and Prairie called timeout. Uhlenkott scored a kill and Lockett followed with an ace. Shears scored a kill and Lockett added another ace for an 18-13 lead.
Grangeville got back within 3 at 18-15 before serving one into the net. Shears scored 2 kills to make it 21-15 then Grangeville got called for being out of rotation to make it 22-15.
Grangeville scored a sideout and the next 2 points to close within 4 but a first touch slam by Martinez at the net ended that rally and Lockett and Prigge each added a kill to give Prairie the match.
Shears had 11 kills in the match with 4 assists and 6 aces. Prigge had 10 kills. Uhlenkott had 8 kills and an assist. Schlader had 5 kills, 21 assists and 5 aces. Lockett had 5 kills, 4 assists and 8 aces. Schwartz had 4 kills, 15 assists and 4 aces. McWilliams had 4 kills and 9 aces. Josie Remacle and Martinez each had 3 kills.
Prairie swept the JV match 25-10, 25-16, 15-13.
Prairie took the lead for good in the opening game during a 7 point service run by Laney Forsmann. She scored the sideout kill to make it 3-4 then serve up an ace. She added 2 more aces while Mackenzie Key scored 4 kills for a 10-4 lead.
After 4 points from each side the score stood at 14-8. Kristin Wemhoff scored a sideout kill and then went back to serve. She had an ace while Forsmann and Isabella Walsh each added a kill for an 18-8 lead.
After 2 sideouts, Riley Enneking served 2 aces and Walsh added another kill to make it 22-9.
After a Grangeville sideout, Key scored 2 more kills and Forsmann served an ace to give Prairie a 25-10 win.
In the second game Prairie took their first lead at 7-6 on a kill by Wemhoff. Grangeville took the lead right back but Prairie took a 13-10 lead on a kill by Taylor Riener and an ace by Olivia Klapprich. Prairie didn’t trail again in the game although Grangeville managed to tie the game once at 15-15.
They then missed a serve and Forsmann served 3 aces in a row and Key added 2 kills for a 21-15 Prairie lead.
After a pair of sideouts, Ali Rehder served out the game. Julia Rehder scored 2 kills and Ali added an ace for a 25-16 win to clinch the match.
Prairie scored first in the third game then fell behind and trailed until Julia Rehder put together a 5-point service run. She had an ace while Alli Geis and Riener each had 2 kills for an 11-7 lead.
Grangeville tied it at 11-11 but Geis knocked down an errant Grangeville set for a sideout. Geis added a similar kill with Walsh serving. Walsh then added an ace for a 14-11 lead.
Grangeville twice fought off game point before Geis ended the match with another first touch kill.
The C team made it a clean sweep for the Pirates by winning both of their games 25-17 and 25-23.
At Genesee
In a league match at Genesee the Lady Pirates dropped the first set but came back to win the second and even the match at a game each.
In the third and fourth games Prairie could extend rallies but couldn’t finish off enough points as Genesee’s 3 big hitters kept pounding away at the net.
Prairie is now 4-4 on the season and 2-4 in league play.
In the JV match Prairie lost 1 game to 2, 23-25, 20-25, 15-7.
The C team won 2 games to 1, 22-25, 25-16, 15-6.
