Lady Pirates win at Logos
The Prairie Lady Pirates had just one match this past week as they traveled to Moscow on Thursday, Sept. 24, where they defeated Logos in 5 games, 25-21, 25-14, 15-25, 19-25, 15-9.
That was exactly the reverse of their match a Cottonwood a couple weeks ago where Logos won the first 2 games, lost the next 2 then won the fifth Ellea Uhlenkott put a spike past a pair of Logos defenders.
The Lady Pirates double varsity match with Lapwai that was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22 has been postponed to Oct. 12 at Cottonwood.
The opening game didn’t start well as Prairie fell behind 0-4. A back row kill by Sierra McWilliams got things going though and Delanie Lockett followed with a 4-point service run that put Prairie ahead. She had 2 aces while Ellea Uhlenkott scored on a block and Madison Shears added a kill.
Logos tied it and Prairie wouldn’t take the lead again until a tip by Uhlenkott made it 15-14. Hope Schwartz followed with a dig that scored for a 16-14 lead.
Logos came back to retake the lead at 17-20. At that point coach Julie Schumacher called a timeout and Prairie followed with a point on a free ball return that led to a missed spike. Uhlenkott then went to the service line and served Prairie to the brink of a win. She had 3 aces and Laney Forsmann added 2 kills and combined with Tara Schlader on a block that made it 24-20.
Logos scored a sideout but then gave the game to Prairie by serving into the net.
In the second game Lockett got Prairie going with a 4-point service run that made it 7-2. The first point of the run was possibly the play of the night. Uhlenkott had fallen to the floor after colliding with a teammate on a block attempt. The ball came to her and while on her back she managed to push the ball up to the top of the net where it rolled over and down for a Prairie point. Shears followed with a kill and Uhlenkott added a more conventional point on a spike. An ace made it 7-2.
After a trade of sideouts, Uhlenkott served 3 points as Shears, Forsmann and Schwartz each scored a kill for an 11-3 lead.
Logos got back within 4 at 14-10 but another Prairie timeout led to a kill by Schlader and 2 aces by Schwartz for a 17-10 lead.
Logos again got within 4 at 18-14 before Uhlenkott scored on a tip and then went back to serve. A tip by Schlader, an ace, a kill by Shears and 3 more aces finished off the game as Prairie won 25-14.
Schlader and Uhlenkott combined on a block to start the third game but Logos then took control with 5 straight points.
Prairie managed to get within 1 at 11-12 but a 3-9 run by Logos put the Knights back in control and they went on to win by 10 points.
Logos took a 1-8 lead in the fourth game and dominated the rest of the game. They got to game point at 14-24 and Prairie put together a rally. Schlader scored a kill and then served an ace. A kill by Shears, another ace and a kill by Forsmann made it 19-24. Logos then called a timeout and it threw Schlader off enough that she missed her next serve for game point.
Prairie trailed early on in the fifth game but a missed Logos serve tied the score at 5-5 and Schlader served Prairie into the lead. Lockett and Shears each won a joust at the net and Jade Prigge added a kill for an 8-5 lead.
Logos came back to tie it before netting a serve to put Prairie back on top. A block by Prigge made it 10-8.
Logos scored a sideout but Prigge scored a kill to send McWilliams to the service line. She served an ace. McWilliams followed with a second touch kill and then served another ace. Prigge then scored the match-winning kill.
Uhlenkott had arguably her best match of the season with 14 kills, which included 3 blocks she had 2 assists and 9 aces while serving for a total or 18 points. She has had some consistency issues serving but in this match missed her first one of the night and then served 100% the rest of the match.
Schlader had 12 kills including 3 blocks with 17 assists and 3 aces. Shears had 9 kills, including 1 block plus an assist and 2 aces. Prigge also had 9 kills, including 1 block. Forsmann, moved up to the varsity due to a couple of players not able to attend the match, had 7 kills, including 2 blocks, plus an assist. McWilliams had 7 kills, 2 assists and 3 aces. Schwartz had 6 kills, 16 assists and 4 aces. Lockett had 3 kills, 4 assists and 3 aces.
Prairie is now 3-4 in league play and 5-4 overall.
The JV team lost their match 25-18, 20-25, 13-15.
After falling behind 0-3 in the opening game Riley Enneking righted the ship with a 4-point service run. She had 3 aces and Kristin Wemhoff added a kill for a 5-3 lead. Logos tied it a couple of times, the last time at 11-11. A hitting error scored the sideout and Wemhoff served an ace with Laney Forsmann adding a kill for a 15-11 lead.
Logos got within 16-14 but a sideout by Prairie and an ace by Enneking made it 18-14.
It was a 4-point edge at 20-16 when Mackenzie Key scored a kill with Isabella Walsh going to the service line. A kill each by Julia Rehder, Key and Olivia Klapprich made it 24-16. Logos fought off 2 game points before missing a serve to give Prairie the game.
The second game was played close as neither team led by more than 2 until Prairie took a 14-10 lead after Klapprich had a 5-point service run. She had 3 aces while Wemhoff and Julia Rehder each added a kill.
Unfortunately Logos turned things around and scored 12 of the next 14 points to take a 16-22 lead and then held on to win by 5.
The third game was also played close with 5 lead changes and neither team leading by more than 2 points.
Prairie last took the lead at 13-12 on a kill by Alli Geis. Logos then scored the sideout and the final 2 points to win the game and the match.

Jade Prigge spikes the ball at Logos as Laney Forsmann watches.

Sierra McWilliams gets down low to dig a Logos serve.
