20 turn out for PHS girls basketball
The Prairie Girls Basketball team has 20 players turned out this fall with 7 returnees from last year’s state runner-up on the varsity team.
Leading the returnees is the 2019-20 state 1A-D1 player of the year, senior Madison Shears. Other returning players who saw significant playing time are returning regular starters Ellea Uhlenkott, a senior, and Delanie Lockett, a junior, and sometime starters Tara Schlader and Kristin Wemhoff, both sophomores.
Senior Hope Schwartz and junior Josie Remacle are the other two returning varsity players.
Also on the varsity this year will be juniors Molly Johnson, Laney Forsmann and Trinity Martinez and junior swing players Ali Rehder and Olivia Klapprich.
JV players are Gracie Farr, a junior, Riley Enneking and Chloe Rowland, both sophomores, and freshmen Taylor Riener, Miranda Klapprich, Allie Geis, Sarah Lustig and Isabelle Walsh.
Lori Mader returns for her 11th year as head coach along with assistant David Shears. Mader’s first win this season will be #200 as a head coach.
Prairie should be in the mix for one of the two state berths out of District 2 with returning state champion Lapwai seen as the favorite. Just like in volleyball this year, only 2 teams advance out of our district.
Genesee should also be a contender again. A couple of teams that should have some good height are Potlatch as well as Logos, which moved up from Division 2 this year.
They open their season next Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Cottonwood against Orofino.
