Lady Pirates open with 2 wins
The Prairie Lady Pirates opened the new season with a pair of wins. On Tuesday, Nov. 17 they won their home opener over Orofino 56-26. On Thursday, Nov. 19 they traveled to Troy where they opened their White Pine League season with a 52-18 win.
Vs Orofino
Things started slowly against Orofino as Prairie led just 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and trailed twice. Kristin Wemhoff scores 2 of her game-high 20 against Orofino.
Kristin Wemhoff started the scoring with a free throw but Orofino answered with a 3-pointer. A free throw by Delanie Lockett and then a basket by Madison Shears gave Prairie the lead back. Lockett added a putback for a 6-3 lead.
Orofino answered with a pair of baskets to retake the lead at 6-7 and had the ball again when Wemhoff made a steal and drove in for a basket to put Prairie back on top. She added a drive to the hoop for another lay-up as Prairie led 10-7 at the end of the quarter.
Prairie started the second quarter with a 10-0 run to take control of the game. Shears had 7 of those 10 points on a 2 baskets and a 3-pointer while Tara Schlader added  2 free throws and Ellea Uhlenkott added another point at the line.
Prairie eventually led 25-13 at the half.
Wemhoff really dialed up the offense in the third quarter as she was 6 for 6 from the field including a 3-pointer for 13 points in that quarter alone. That helped Prairie close out the quarter with a 17-2 run that gave them a 48-17 lead heading in to the fourth quarter. That made for a running clock in the fourth.
Prairie scored the first 4 points of the fourth to take a 52-17 lead, their largest of the game. Orofino actually outscored the Pirates 4-9 the rest of the way.
Wemhoff wound up leading the scoring with 20 points on 9 for 12 shooting. Shears added 17, scoring 11 in the second quarter when Prairie took control of the game. Lockett scored 7, Hope Schwartz 4, Schlader 3, Trinity Martinez and Ali Rehder 2 each and Uhlenkott 1.
Prairie had a 35-27 edge on the boards led by Shears and Schlader who had 6 rebounds each.
Wemhoff had 5 steals and 2 assists. Schlader had 4 steals. Shears and Uhlenkott each had 3 steals and 3 assists.
Prairie was 23 for 44 from the field, 52%, and 8 for 21 at the line, 38%. Orofino was 7 for 32 from the field, 22%, and 9 for 22 at the line, 41%.
The JV game was close all the way through with Prairie pulling out a 42-36 win.
Orofino scored first with a free throw and Ali Rehder gave Prairie their first lead with a basket from the baseline.
Orofino came back with a 2-7 run to take a 4-8 lead. Rehder sank a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 1 and Olivia Klapprich hit a free throw to tie it. A steal by Rehder led to a putback by Isabella Walsh for a 10-8 lead but Orofino answered with a basket that made it 10-10 at the quarter break.
Walsh opened the second quarter scoring with a bank shot but Orofino tied it 17 seconds later.
A pair of putbacks by Riley Enneking wound up giving Prairie the lead for good.  The second came following a steal by Alli Geis. Rehder’s second 3 of the game put Prairie up 21-14.
Orofino cut the lead top 3 at 21-18 but Prairie then finished the half with a 6-0 run as Geis, Sarah Lustig and Rehder each scored a basket for a 27-18 halftime lead.
Enneking scored 8 of Prairie’s 9 third quarter points after Rehder had opened the half with a free throw. Prairie took a 36-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
Orofino opened the fourth quarter with a 0-8 run that cut the Prairie lead down to 2 at 36-34 with 1:25 left to play.
Prairie finally got on the scoreboard in the final quarter on a putback by Geis with 1:08 left. Orofino again cut the lead to 2 with 53 seconds to play.
A basket by Lustig and 2 free throws by Walsh finished off the scoring as Prairie won by 6.
Enneking was Prairie’s leading scorer with 12 points with Rehder adding 11. Both players fouled out in the fourth quarter which contributed to the Orofino rally. Walsh scored 6 with Geis and Lustig adding 4 each. Klapprich scored 3 and Taylor Riener scored 2.
Prairie had a 34-27 rebounding edge with Enneking pulling down 9 rebounds to lead the team. Klapprich added 7 rebounds.
Rehder had 8 steals and Walsh and Lustig each had 3 assists.
The JV’s were 18 for 49 from the field, 37%, and 4 for 15 at the line, 27%. Orofino was 15 for 35 from the field, 43%, and 6 for 12 at the line, 50%.

At Troy
The Lady Pirates pretty much dominated Troy in their league game as there was only twice in the game that Troy was able to get back to back scoring.
Prairie opened up with an 8-0 lead as Schlader, Wemhoff, Shears and Uhlenkott each scored 2 points. Uhlenkott’s pair came at the line.
Troy then mounted what turned out to be their only real rally as they scored 6 straight to cut the lead to just 2 at 8-6.
A free throw by Lockett and a lay-up by Shears made it 11-6 at the end of the quarter.
Wemhoff opened the second quarter scoring with a 3-pointer. Martinez followed with a basket and Wemhoff added a free throw for a 17-6 lead.
After a Troy basket Prairie had a 7-0 run with Lockett scoring 5 of the 7 points and Schlader adding 2 from the line for a 24-8 lead.
After a Troy basket, Schwartz hit a 3-pointer and Wemhoff added a pair of baskets for a 31-10 lead at the half.
Troy scored the first 4 points of the second half and Prairie answered with a free throw by Uhlenkott and a basket by Schlader on an inbounds play.
Troy scored again but Prairie then finished the third quarter with a 12-0 run to take a 46-16 lead into the fourth quarter and invoke the running clock.
Shears started the run with a steal that led to a free throw. Schwartz and Wemhoff then alternated the next 5 baskets and Laney Forsmann closed out the quarter with a basket.
Forsmann opened the fourth quarter scoring with a free throw, then Troy scored their only points of the quarter. Prairie finished with a 5-0 run with Molly Johnson scoring a free throw and Shears and Schwartz each adding a basket.
Wemhoff was the leading scorer for the Pirates with 14 points. Schwartz was the only other player in double figures with 10. Shears scored 7. Lockett and Schlader added 6 each. Uhlenkott and Forsmann scored 3 each. Martinez scored 2 and Johnson 1.
Prairie had a 30-22 edge on the boards with Schlader pulling down 7 to lead the team. Lockett added 6 rebounds.
Shears had 6 steals and Uhlenkott had 4 assists.
Prairie was 18 for 41 from the field, 44%, and 12 for 20 at the line, 60%. Troy was 9 for 32 from the field, 28%, and 0 for 4 at the line.
Prairie is no 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
