Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle

To the Editor,
Hmmm, do I heed the advice of Margaret Frei or that of our medical PROFESSIONALS?  I am choosing to follow those that have DR. in front of their name.  Wear a mask, wash your hands, and social distance.

Redneck Review!
No. 293 - 12/7/2020
For two weeks now, this column has been dwelling on the impact of the Corona virus on our lives and on our freedom. On the one side are those who find the restrictions suggested are unrealistic in view of the loss of freedom and the low impact of the virus in their area, while on on the other are equally well meaning people who are convinced that more demanding rules be inforced. To wear a mask or not to wear a mask is an issue not yet settled as convictions on one side make one believe that doing so would be the answer to all our problems, while solid evidence exists that even their universal use would have insignificant impact on the spread of the virus.
The bottom line is that both sides need to respect the position of the other on this matter, and the same is true about the effectiveness of the vaccines that are on the horizon and which are being touted by many as the answer to the entire problem, while equally convinced are those who believe they might have more harmful effects than good.
Maybe it is time that all of us remember the season we are in today, and look to the historic man whose birthday we celebrate in just over a couple of weeks. In honor of that historic date we repeat here an article written back in 1983 by myself entitled: LET FREEDOM RING. "Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house...."
"It is hard to believe that the Christmas rush will soon be over, and 'the night before' will be with us once again. So what better time to pause and consider the impact of His coming, in our own lives and in the world around us,
"An intriguing historical individual is this 'man' Jesus Christ. For like no other before or since, His birth was foretold long before in that most famous of all books, the Bible. And who else in our recorded history had an entire book to record the events up to His coming, and His life and teachings since? How many others, it might be asked, caused time itself to stop, and calibrated calendar time to begin?
"Several rounds of tests have been conducted on the 'Shroud of Turin.' Results have offered 'highly significant evidence linking the cloth to the time of the Crucifixion. The shroud ... is an ancient linen kept at Turin, Italy, imprinted with what is believed by many to be the image of Christ. But the shroud itself is no more unusual than other claims associated with this 'man.' 'Born of a virgin' and 'Son of God' we have been told. 'Rose from the dead' and 'Ascended into Heaven' it has been added.
"Yes, it is a historical fact that this carpenter's son has made more impact on civilization than any other individual.
"So what should all this mean to you and me? Simply, that all who claim to be 'Christian' ... should one more time renew our pledge to daily follow in His footsteps... Let us put God and neighbor first in our lives, and devote ourselves to His mission on earth, to bring peace to men of good will. So let our prayer be:
"Oh Lord on your birthday, please open our eyes, and help us appreciate America's prize,
"The freedom, the peace, the family and things, All of us have learned that Christmas brings,
"Open our hearts, let your love come in, Please guard us, we beg you, and keep us from sin,
"Help us resolve, what we have we will share, For less fortunate folks, please teach us to care,
"With your help Lord, on your day we will pray, That we will do our part, on this Christmas day,
"So Christmas this year, and forever will be, What Christmas has been for you and for me."
So let us all pray this Christmas season that our Christmas saviour will rescue our country and the thousands of innocents who are destined to be aborted this coming year!
