Lady Pirates win 3 league games
The Prairie Lady Pirates finished off the 2020 portion of their schedule this season with 3 league wins.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15 they beat Clearwater Valley 79-26 at Cottonwood. On Thursday, Dec. 17, they beat Kamiah 49-15, also at Cottonwood. Finally on Friday, Dec. 18, they traveled to Potlatch where they won 55-22.
Vs. C.V.
In the game against C.V., Prairie raced out to a 20-6 lead by the end of tMolly Johnson got inside the defense for a lay-up against C.V. as Madison Shears watches.he first quarter. Ellea Uhlenkott opened the scoring and C.V. answered. Prairie then scored the next 9 points. Delanie Lockett scored a basket and 2 free throws. Tara Schlader scored a putback and Madison Shears capped the run with a 3.
C.V. broke the run with a basket but Prairie answered with a putback by Shears and a lay-up by Uhlenkott. After another C.V. basket, Kristin Wemhoff scored a basket and Shears closed out the first quarter scoring with another 3.
C.V. sophomore Shada Edwards burned Prairie several times on backcuts for lay-ups as she scored 8 of C.V.’s first 10 points. She opened the second quarter scoring with one of those lay-ups but Prairie responded with 6 straight points. Uhlenkott scored a pair of baskets and Schlader and Lockett each added a free throw.
After Edwards’ fourth basket made it 26-10, Lockett sank a 3. After a C.V. free throw, the Pirates scored 9 straight points for a 38-11 lead. Trinity Martinez scored and Locket then hit another 3. Wemhoff closed out the run with 2 free throws and then a lay-up after a steal.
A basket each by Schlader and Wemhoff against 2 free throws and a 3-pointer by C.V. made it 42-16 at the half.
Shears scored the first 9 points of the second half as she scored a short jumper, a putback, a 3 and a lay-up for a 51-16 lead.
After a C.V. basket Prairie had a 10-0 run. Molly Johnson scored to open the run followed by a 3 from Hope Schwartz. Wemhoff scored a lay-up and Schwartz finished the run with another 3.
After another C.V. basket, Prairie finished the third quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 68-20 lead. A Johnson free throw was followed by a basket by Martinez. Shears scored after a steal and Schwartz hit a lay-up at the buzzer.
Schwartz scored her third 3 of the game to open the fourth quarter which was played with a running clock.
Wemhoff and Jade Prigge each scored for a 75-20 lead. Edwards followed with 4 points for C.V. that were answered with 2 free throws each by Uhlenkott and Prigge. Edwards scored the game’s final points as Prairie won by 53.
Shears had 19 points to lead Prairie in scoring. The Pirates put 5 players in double figures as Wemhoff scored 12, Schwartz and Lockett 11 each and Uhlenkott 10. Schlader scored 5 with Martinez and Prigge adding 4 each and Johnson 3.
Prairie had a 37-29 edge on the boards led by Schlader who had 12 rebounds.
Uhlenkott had 5 steals and 7 assists. Shears and Schlader each had 4 assists.
Prairie was 29 for 61 from the field, 48%, and 11 for 18 at the line, 61%. C.V. was 10 for 35 from the field, 29%, and 5 for 8 at the line, 63%.
There was no JV game.

Vs. Kamiah
In the game against Kamiah Prairie jumped out to a 12-0 lead and were never challenged.
Wemhoff, Uhlenkott and Schlader each made the first of 2 free throws to get Prairie off to a 3-0 start. Shears then doubled the lead with a 3-pointer. Uhlenkott, Wemhoff and Lockett each followed with a basket to make it 12-0.
After a Kamiah 3-pointer, Prairie went on a 10-0 run. A basket by Shears started it. Lockett followed with a 3-point play. A basket by Wemhoff, free throw by Shears and a basket by Uhlenkott made it 22-3.
Kamiah scored the final 2 points of the quarter to make it 22-5.
Prairie scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to take a 32-5 lead.
Schlader scored 2 baskets the Wemhoff, Laney Forsmann and Lockett each added a basket.
Kamiah scored the final 4 points of the half as Prairie took a 32-9 lead into the break.
It was a 10-0 run to start the third quarter for the Pirates. Shears hit a 3 on an inbounds play. Lockett, Schlader and Wemhoff each sank the second of 2 free throws then Lockett and Shears each added a lay-up to make it 42-9.
Again Kamiah scored the final 4 points of the quarter as Prairie took a 42-13 lead into the fourth.
A 3-pointer by Shears at the 7:41 mark of the fourth quarter invoked the running clock. Uhlenkott and Schlader each sank the front end of a 1 and 1 to make it 47-13.
Kamiah’s final points came with 2:04 left and Uhlenkott scored 2 free throws to finish of the game’s scoring.
Shears led the scoring for Prairie with 14 points with Lockett also in double figures with 10. Uhlenkott scored and Wemhoff each scored 8, Schlader 7 and Forsmann 2.
Prairie dominated the boards 42-23. Lockett and Schlader each had 9 reounds while Wemhoff and Uhlenkott each had 8.
Wemhoff had 8 steals and 3 assists while Shears had 5 steals.
Prairie was 17 for 53 from the field, 32%, and 12 for 25 at the line, 48%. Kamiah was 7 for 28 from the field, 25%, and 0 for 3 at the line.
Prairie won the 2 quarter JV game 17-8. We don’t have any details due to an issue with the Facebook Live upload.

At Potlatch
The Lady Pirates closed out the 2020 portion of their schedule with a physical win at Potlatch.
Madison Shears handles the ball at Potlatch. At right is Laney Forsmann.Prairie led just 3-2 nearly 4 minutes into the game. At the 4:07 mark Wemhoff scored inside to kick off a 12-0 run. Uhlenkott followed with a basket and then a free throw. Wemhoff scored again. Shears hit a 3-pointer and Wemhoff again scored to make it 15-2 with 38 seconds left in the first quarter.
Potlatch closed out the quarter with a 3-point play to make it 15-5.
Martinez scored after making a steal to open the second quarter. After a Potlatch basket, Lockett scored a basket. Martinez sank a 3-pointer and Lockett scored on a perimeter shot to make it 24-7.
Potlatch answered with 5 straight points but Prairie then closed the half with a 6-0 run for a 30-12 halftime lead. Lockett sank 3 of 4 free throws and Shears hit a 3-pointer.
Prairie made it a wrap-around 12-0 run with the first 6 points of the second half. Uhlenkott scored twice after making steals and Schlader scored with a putback to make it 36-12.
At the 7:00 mark Potlatch scored their only basket of the third quarter. Prairie finished off the quarter with a 13-0 run. A free throw by Wemhoff started it. Schlader followed with 2 baskets. Wemhoff scored after a steal. Lockett hit 2 free throws. Wemhoff scored a putback and Uhlenkott scored on an inbounds play to make it 49-14 after 3 quarters.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock as Potlatch outscored Prairie 6-8 in the final frame. Prairie’s points came on a Forsmann free throw, a 3 by Schwartz and 2 free throws by Shears as Prairie won by 33.
Wemhoff and Uhlenkott both had double-doubles. Wemhoff had 12 points and 11 rebounds while Uhlenkott had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Lockett scored 9 points, Shears 8, Schlader 6, Martinez 5, Schwartz 3 and Forsmann 1.
Schlader led the Pirates in rebounds with 14 as Prairie controlled the boards 49-25.
Wemhoff had 6 steals and 3 assists. Lockett had 4 assists and 3 steals. Schlader and Uhlenkott each had 4 steals and Shears had 3 steals.
Prairie was 20 for 67 from the field, 30%, and 11 for 16 at the line, 69%. Potlatch was 9 for 30 from the field, 30%, and 3 for 7 at the line, 43%.
Prairie is 9-1 on the season and 6-1 in league play.
Prairie won a 2-quarter JV game 19-11.
Prairie jumped out to a 10-0 lead and led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter. Olivia Klapprich scored the first basket of the game then Isabella Walsh and Ali Rehder each hit a 3-pointer. Riley Enneking added a basket for the 10-0 lead.
Potlatch scored first in the second quarter to cut the lead to 4 points but Rehder scored after a steal and Sarah Lustig added a free throw to make it 13-6.
After a Potlatch free throw Klapprich scored a free throw and Jade Prigge added a basket from just inside the 3-point line for a 16-7 lead.
A Potlatch basket was answered by one from Enneking.
Another Potlatch basket but the lead to 18-11 but there was just 17 seconds left. Rehder was fouled and made a free throw for the final point.
Rehder scored 6 to lead the team with Enneking scoring 4. Klapprich and Walsh each scored 3 with Prigge scoring 2 and Lustig 1.
Potlatch had a 13-17 edge on the boards. Lustig led Prairie with 6 rebounds while Prigge had 5.
Klapprich had 4 steals and Rehder, Enneking, Klapprich and Prigge each had 1 assist.
The JV’s were 7 for 38 from the field, 18%, and 3 for 8 at the line, 38%. Potlatch was 5 for 23 from the field, 22%, and 1 for 3 at the line, 33%.
