Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of league games last week as they won at Kamiah Tuesday, Jan. 12 by a score of 57-23 and then won a home game Friday, Jan. 15 over Logos 47-9.
Prairie struggled in the opening quarter to score as they led just 8-6 at the end of the period.
Prairie missed 12 of their 14 shot attempts and  were 4 of 8 at the line.
Prairie never trailed as they took the lead on a pair of free throws by Ellea Uhlenkott. After Kamiah tied it, Prairie took the lead on a turn-around shot by Uhlenkott. Tara Schlader connected on 2 of 6 free throws to make it 6-2.
After a Kamiah basket Schlader scored a putback to make it 8-4.
Kamiah pulled within 2 when they converted a steal into a basket.
Kamiah then opened the second quarter scoring with a basket to tie the game at 8-8.
Hope Schwartz scored a lay-up on a feed from Delanie Lockett and that kicked off a 15-0 run by the Pirates as they blew the game open.
Madison Shears followed with the first of five 3-pointers she had in the game. A steal by Schwartz led to a basket by Schlader. Schlader then scored after making a steal and then passed to Shears for a lay-up. A free throw by Kristin Wemhoff was followed by a basket by Shears and Schlader closed out the run with a free throw.
Kamiah ended the run with a 3-pointer but Shears counted with a 3. After another Kamiah basket, Shears closed out the half with a buzzer-beating 3 for a 29-13 halftime lead.
Kamiah outscored Prairie 2-5 to open the second half then Prairie closed out the third quarter with a 22-0 run that was started when Shears made her fourth 3 of the game.
A steal by Shears led to a basket by Schlader. Shears converted herself after another steal. A 3 by Shears was followed by a 3-point play by Wemhoff which came after a steal by Schlader. Wemhoff then scored on an inbounds play. Schlader scored a putback. Wemhoff stole the ball and scored. Schwartz added a lay-up and Trinity Martinez closed out the third quarter with a free throw for a 53-18 lead.
In a running clock fourth quarter Kamiah finally scored their first points in over 9 minutes with a pair of free throws. Kamiah’s only scoring in the final quarter came at the free throw line while Prairie got a basket each from Schlader and Lockett.
Shears led the scoring with 21 points while Schlader had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Wemhoff scored 8, Uhlenkott and Schwartz 4 each, Lockett 2 and Martinez 1.
Prairie had a 33-28 edge on the boards.
Shears, Uhlenkott and Schlader each had 4 steals while Wemhoff had 4 assists.
Prairie was 22 for 56 from the field, 39%, and 8 for 21 at the line, 38%. Kamiah was 8 for 25 from the field, 32%, and 5 for 8 at the line, 63%.
Prairie lost the JV game 23-34 as they struggled to score against Kamiah’s matchup zone defense.
Neither team scored in the first 2:30 of the game with Olivia Klapprich coring on a putback at the 5:24 mark of the first quarter. Kamiah tied it over 2 minutes later with Jade Prigge putting Prairie back on top with a putback 14 seconds after that. After a free throw by Kamiah, Prigge scored inside to make it 6-3. A steal by Kamiah made it 6-5 at the end of the quarter.
Kamiah took their first lead 34 seconds into the second quarter but Prairie responded with 5 straight points. Riley Enneking scored on an inbounds play and a steal by Klapprich led to a basket by Ali Rehder. Rehder added a free throw 2 minutes later to make it 11-7.
Kamiah took back the lead with a basket and a 3 pointer but Prigge scored a pair of baskets to give Prairie a 15-12 lead with 1:14 left in the half.
A 3 by Kamiah tied it and a basket at the buzzer put the Kubs up 17-15 at the half. Prairie never led again.
The Pirates managed just 2 points in the third quarter as they went over 8 minutes without scoring.
Kamiah only scored 4 in the quarter though as it was still a close game at 17-21 after 3 quarters.
In the fourth quarter Kamiah made 5 of 7 shots including 2 for 2 from 3-point range to hold off the Pirates who could must just 6 points in the final period, just 8 in the second half.
Prigge led Prairie in scoring with 10 points while Enneking had 6. Klapprich had 4 and Rehder 3.
Kamiah had a 17-25 edge on the boards with Klapprich leading the Pirates with 4 rebounds.
Klapprich also led in steals with 6 while Rehder and Gracie Farr each had 4. Klapprich, Isabella Walsh and Enneking each had 2 assists.
Prairie was 10 for 33 from the field, 30%, and 3 for 6 at the line, 50%. Kamiah was 14 for 30 from the field, 46%, and 2 for 5 at the line, 40%. Kamiah had four 3-pointers while Prairie had none.

The game against Logos at Cottonwood saw the Knights get after it on defense against Prairie in the first half, making the Pirates work for every point. The game might have been more competitive, at least in the first half, if the Knights had been able to score on their end.
Lockett scored a free throw for Prairie’s first point 90 seconds into the game. Schlader scored a pair of baskets to make it 5-0 with 5:44 left in the quarter.
There was no change in the score for over 5 minutes as each team missed several lay-ups.
Uhlenkott made it 7-0 at the quarter break with a lay-up with 20 seconds left.
Prairie was 3 for 15 in the quarter while Logos was 0 for 6.
Uhlenkott opened the second quarter scoring with a basket and Shears hit a 3-pointer for a 12-0 lead.
Logos finally scored at the 3:37 mark with a free throw. That would be their only point of the first half.
Prairie went from the 5:10 mark to the 1:19 mark without scoring. Wemhoff broke the drought when she took a defensive rebound and drove full court for a lay-up and was fouled. She converted the 3-point play to make it 15-1.
Wemhoff added a free throw at the 10 second mark and Schlader rebounded the missed second shot and scored to make it 18-1 at the half.
Prairie was just 7 for 29 shooting in the first half and 3 for 11 at the line.
Prairie got their offense going in the third quarter although 6 of their first 9 points came on free throws.
Shears opened the second half scoring with 2 free throws then Logos finally got their first basket at the 7:33 mark.
Lockett then hit 2 free throws and added a 3-pointer. 2 more free throws by Shears, a basket by Wemhoff and another free throw by Shears made it 30-3 with 4:58 left in the quarter.
After struggling at the line in the first half Prairie had made their first 7 free throws of the second half.
Prairie outscored Logos 15-4 the rest of the quarter as they outscored the Knights 27-6 in third quarter alone. 12 of Prairie’s 27 points came at the free throw line.
The Pirates led 45-7 going into the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock.
Schlader scored to open the fourth quarter and those turned out to be Prairie’s only points as Prairie mostly tried to play keep-away and run out the clock. Logos’ only points in the fourth were 2 free throws out of 5 attempts. The Knights were fouled the only 2 times they attempted a shot so they wound up 0 for 0 in the quarter.
Schlader led the team in both scoring and rebounds with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Lockett and Shears each scored 10 while Wemhoff and Uhlenkott added 6 points each.
Schwartz, Shears, Wemhoff and Lockett each had 4 steals while Uhlenkott had 5 assists and Shears had 4.
Prairie was 15 for 47 from the field, 32%, and 15 for 28 at the line, 54%. Logos was 2 for 21 from the field, 10%, and 5 for 11 at the line, 45%
Prairie is now 13-1 on the season and 9-1 in league play.
Prairie won the JV game 53-17.
Prairie outscored Logos 21-4 in the opening quarter as Rehder scored 7 points with Prigge scoring 6 and Klapprich 4.
Logos attempted just 7 shots compared to 23 for Prairie as the Knights committed 10 turnovers and Prairie outrebounded them 12-6.
The second quarter was more of the same as Prairie took a 40-8 halftime lead. Rehder and Prigge each added 6 points in the second quarter while Walsh had a 3 -pointer and Taylor Rehder scored 4 points.
Prairie again had a big margin in shots attempted, 15 to 6, and forced 9 more turnovers.
The scoring pace slowed in the third quarter as Prairie outscored Logos 10-4. Rehder added 4 more points while Prigge, Riener and Sarah Lustig each scored 2.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and Logos was able to outscore Prairie 3-5. Alli Geis scored 2 points and Riener 1 for Prairie in the final quarter.
Rehder wound up leading Prairie in scoring with 17 points while Prigge had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Riener scored 7, Walsh 5, Klapprich 4 and Enneking, Geis and Lustig 2 each.
Prairie had a 39-27 rebounding edge.
Klapprich had 7 steals and 3 assists while Walsh had 4 assists.
Prairie was 23 for 61 from the field, 38%, and 6 for 7 at the line, 86%. Logos was 7 for 32 from the field, 22%, and 2 for 4 at the line, 50%.
