Lady Pirates win 3 games
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 3 games last week. On Tuesday, Jan. 26 they traveled to Kooskia and won 57-27. On Thursday, Jan. 28, they traveled to Kendrick and won 54-34. Finally on Friday, Jan. 29, they beat Potlatch 63-17 at Cottonwood.
The Potlatch game was also Senior Night with Madison Shears, Ellea Uhlenkott and Hope Schwartz honored prior to the game.
We don’t have the usual details for this game as we were at the boys game against Troy at Cottonwood and C.V. did not stream this game on Facebook Live.
C.V. played Prairie tough in the first half as Prairie led just 16-10 after one quarter and 25-21 at the half.
Prairie blew it open in the second half though outscoring the Rams 19-4 in the third quarter and 13-2 in the fourth.
Madison Shears led the scoring attack with four 3-pointers and 20 total points. She also added 4 steals. Tara Schlader and Ellea Uhlenkott each scored 8 points with Delanie Lockett and Kristin Wemhoff each scoring 6. Laney Forsmann scored 4 and Ali Rehder scored 1.
Schlader and Forsmann each had 9 rebounds to lead the team.
There was no JV game.

The game at Kendrick was maybe a little more one-sided than expected with Kendrick being the league leader in the Division 2 portion of the White Pine League.
Shears got things started with a 3-pointer and Wemhoff and Uhlenkott each added a basket as Prairie took a 7-0 lead.
Kendrick was able to get within 3 at 10-7  but a basket by Uhlenkott and a 3 by Lockett pushed the lead to 15-7. Kendrick score din the final minute to make it 15-9 at the end of the first period.
Kendrick scored to cut the lead to 4 early in the second quarter but a basket by Wemhoff and then a steal she made that led to a basket by Schlader gave Prairie a 19-11 lead.
Kendrick scored a free throw and a basket to get within 5 but Prairie ended the first half with a basket each by Schwartz and Shears for a 23-14 halftime lead.
Shears then opened the second half scoring with a lay-up and then a 3-pointer for a 28-14 lead.
Kendrick cut the lead down to 10 at 30-20 but never got any closer in the second half. Schlader responded with a 3-pointer and after a pair of Kendrick free throws, Shears connected on a 3 to make it 36-22.
Twice more Kendrick cut the lead to 11 at 36-25 and 38-27 but each time Prairie responded. The first with a basket by Shears and on the second with a 3-pointer by Forsmann.
After a Kendrick basket, Forsmann hit a shot from just inside the 3-point arc to make it 43-29 at the end of the third quarter.
A layup by Schlader and a free throw and then a basket by Uhlenkott made it 46-29 2 minutes into the fourth quarter.
A Kendrick basket was answered by a basket each from Shears and Wemhoff to make it 52-31, Prairie’s biggest lead of the game.
A free throw each by Shears and Ali Rehder against a basket and a free throw by Kendrick finished off the scoring of Prairie’s 20-point win.
Shears wound up with 18 points to lead the scoring. Schlader just missed a double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Uhlenkott scored 7. Lockett and Wemhoff scored 6 each. Forsmann scored 5, Schwartz 2 and Rehder 1.
Kendrick had a 28-35 edge on the boards.
Schlader had 5 steals and 4 assists. Uhlenkott had 3 steals and 3 assists and Forsmann also had 3 assists.
Prairie was 22 for 47 from the field, 47%, and 4 for 11 at the line, 36%. Kendrick was 13 for 46 from the field, 28%, and 6 for 11 at the line, 55%.
The Prairie JV team came from behind to pull out a 13-12 win in a low scoring, 2-quarter JV game.
Prairie scored the first 3 points of the game on a basket by Ali Rehder and a free throw by Olivia Klapprich.
Kendrick then hit 2 straight 3-pointers plus a 2 pointer for a 3-8 lead.
Prigge scored to make it 5-8 but Kendrick answered to lead 5-10 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter saw Prairie score 8 straight points to take the lead. Prigge scored a pair of baskets then Rehder hit a baseline shot to give Prairie their first lead since the 6:01 mark of the first quarter.
Riley Enneking added a putback to make it 13-10 with 1:43 to play.
Kendrick answered right back with a basket to cut the lead to 1 with 1:34 left.
Both sides had opportunities to score in the final 90 seconds but neither did.
Prigge wound up with 6 points to lead the scoring with Rehder scoring 4, Enneking 2 and Klapprich 1.
Kendrick had a 19-23 rebounding edge. Prigge had 4 to lead the Pirates.
Klapprich had 3 steals and 2 assists to lead both categories.
Prairie was 6 for 22 from the field, 27%, and 1 for 2 at the line, 50%. Kendrick was 4 for 28 from the field, 14%, and 2 for 2 at the line, 100%.

Prairie outscored Potlatch 15-0 in the first quarter on their way to a 63-17 win on Senior Night.
Potlatch was 0 for 7 from the field and 0 for 3 from the line in that opening quarter and had 11 turnovers.
Prairie meanwhile wasn’t blistering the nets as they hit just 5 of 15 from the field and 3 of 6 at the line but it was enough to build a double digit lead.
Schwartz, a senior, normally the first player in off the bench, started instead Wemhoff and scored Prairie’s first 2 points of the game on a short baseline shot. Shears, also a senior, followed with a 3-pointer. It took awhile for the third senior, Uhlenkott, to get on the scoreboard.
Prairie followed that start with a basket by Lockett, a free throw each by Shears and Schwartz, another 3 by Shears and 2 baskets by Wemhoff, who came off the bench last in the quarter.
Potlatch finally got on the board 20 seconds into the second quarter with 2 free throws. It was over 2 minutes later before they scored their first basket. In between those two scores Prairie added 7 more points. Schlader scored a putback, Shears drove to the hoop after making a steal, Schlader scored a free throw and then had a steal that led to a basket by Wemhoff. That made it 22-2 and Potlatch’s first basket made it 22-4.
Prairie outscored Potlatch 13-5 the rest of the half to take a 35-9 halftime lead.
Both sides shot a bunch of free throws in the second quarter. Each team was 7 for 13 at the line in the quarter.
Schwartz had a free throw and then converted a 3-point play. Lockett was 3 for 6 at the line and Prigge closed out the first half scoring with a 3-pointer.
The Pirates outscored Potlatch 16-5 in the third quarter as they held the Loggers to 2 baskets although 1 was a 3-pointers.
Prairie meanwhile got a free throw from Lockett, a basket from Wemhoff and 2 free throws from Schwartz in a 5-0 run. After Potlatch’s 3-pointer, Shears answered with a 3-pointer then Schwartz scored a lay-up. Forsmann made a free throw, Schlader a 3 and Shears finished off the quarter by taking a steal to the hoop for a layup to make it 51-19 at the end of the period.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. Schwartz opened the quarter with her second 3-point play of the game and Shears followed with her fourth 3-pointer to make it 57-14.
At that point coach Lori Mader realized that Uhlenkott had yet to score in her final home game and set up the offense to get her a basket.
The first attempt didn’t work and Wemhoff wound up scoring a 15 footer. With 2:23 left Uhlenkott got on the board with a lay-up and after a 3-pointer by Potlatch, scored the game’s final 2 points at the free throw line.
Shears wound up with 17 points with Schwartz scoring 14. Wemhoff scored 10, Schlader 8, Lockett 5, Uhlenkott and Prigge 4 each and Forsmann 1.
Prairie had a 47-37 rebounding edge led by Schlader with 15 rebounds.
Schlader also had 8 steals while Shears and Lockett had 5 each. Uhlenkott had 4 assists.
Prairie was 19 for 65 from the field, 29%, and 18 for 29 at the line, 62%. Potlatch was 4 for 30 from the field, 13%, and 7 for 18 at the line, 39%.
Prairie finishes up their league schedule in second place with a 12-2 record and are 17-2 overall with a non-league game at Grangeville that was played on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
The Lady Pirates will play their first District game on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Prairie High School at 6 p.m. The likely opponent is Genesee.
