Local VFW winners place at District and State VFW District 2 and Idaho Department (State) awards for the Patriot's Pen and the Voice of Democracy were presented last week on Thursday 11 March. We have continued to have exceptional entries from our community's youth. At district, due to the number of entries we received, we were allowed two entries for the Patriot's Pen. Both of our entries finished in the top three. Rachel Sonnen won first place at district earning $100 dollars and Noelle Chmelik took third place earning $50. At the Department (State) level for the Patriot's Pen Rachel Sonnen took third place earning an additional $200. For the VOD at the district level Leann Lightfield received honorable mention. The VFW Post 4902 and Post Commander Dave Frei are extremely proud to offer recognition of our fine youth. We continue to be impressed by the quality of young adults in our community and are very grateful for the participation of the community in this event.
