Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle

2000 signatures! 2000 signatures on a petition requesting the Idaho County Commissioners adopt a resolution declaring the county a Second Amendment sanctuary – and yet the commissioners refused. 2000 signatures. I would wager that represents more votes than any one of the current commissioners received in the last election.
The reasons given by the commissioners for rejecting the idea of creating a Second Amendment sanctuary are ridiculous. They say it would be too costly to defend the measure in court. They also say SB 1332 has already established the entire state as a Second Amendment sanctuary. They are wrong on both counts. It is absurd to put a ceiling on the price of freedom. Make no mistake; it is the right to take up arms against a rouge national government that maintains all other rights enshrined in the Constitution.
As for SB 1332, it was no more than a publicity stunt. The law only address agents, officers and employees of the State of Idaho. It does not restrict the agents, officers and employees of the National government. They are free to take your guns – just without the help of state and local law enforcement. And lest you have forgotten, the USMS, FBI, ATF etc., have shown they are happy to act independently of local law enforcement in administering National edicts.
Thus, one attendee’s comments at the March 30, 2021 commissioners meeting are spot on. A resolution is just “another piece of paper.” That’s why it is time the Idaho County commissioners step up to the plate and enact an ordinance with some teeth. The County should prohibit National agents from violating our Second Amendment rights and direct County law enforcement agencies to execute the ruling by arresting National agents, officers or employees who encroach upon our Second Amendment rights. Anything less is just smoke and mirrors.

To the Editor
I recently happened upon a copy of the 1638 Connecticut Constitution, apparently one of the first constitutions on this continent.  It was quite revealing to me.  Here is its first paragraph...
FORASMUCH as it hath pleased the Allmighty God by the wise disposition of his diuyne pruidence so to Order and dispose of things that we the Inhabitants and Residents of Windsor, Harteford and Wethersfield are now cohabiting and dwelling in and vppon the River of Conectecotte and the Lands thereunto adioyneing; And well knowing where a people are gathered togather the word of God requires that to mayntayne the peace and vnion of such a people there should be an orderly and decent Gouerment established according to God, to order and dispose of the affayres of the people at all seasons as occation shall require; doe therefore assotiate and conioyne our selues to be as one Publike State or Commonwelth; and doe, for our selues and our Successors and such as shall be adioyned to vs att any tyme hereafter, enter into Combination and Confederation togather, to mayntayne and prsearue the liberty and purity of the gospell of our Lord Jesus wch we now prfesse, as also the disciplyne of the Churches, wch according to the truth of the said gospell is now practised amongst vs; As also in or Ciuell Affaires to be guided and gouerned according to such Lawes, Rules, Orders and decrees as shall be made, ordered & decreed, as followeth:--
There is no hint of secularism here.  No separation between the beliefs of the people and their government.  It also shows me how much more Christian influence was active when the ideas of free governance were devised, long before Jefferson or Washington were born.
There is so much I would love to say relating to this but I must defer for now.

Redneck Review!
No. 310 - 4/4/2021
A quick look back and in RNR 307 we claimed it was "Game Time!"  The "March Madness" struggle to reach the "Final Four" and the hoped win in the final game of a tournament that starts with 68 teams, but ends with only one sole survivor! That section closed with a hope that local Gonzaga would be that survivor, entering undefeated and ranked #1 most of the year! The "Game Time" which decides is tonight, Monday, as this review is being written! Go Zags!
But that Review 307 also made a claim about ONE POWER, an idea that was followed up in the two following RNR's.  The claim was made that every single individual in one way or the other has some impact on the direction of the world lived in, both locally and in fact, in a tiny way perhaps, even on the future of the entire world today with its near seven billion people!
So, that means that it is really DECISION TIME FOR EACH OF US!  Contrary to the claim or at least the suggestion that individual effort is unimportant in this world of huge numbers and big power and the need for government action at the national level, each one of us has to declare emphatically that WE HAVE THE POWER!  Armed it is hoped with the conviction that the actions of each of us, even if only in a very small way, does have impact on the local area we live in and even in some small and maybe unnoticed way on the world around us!
Remember not only King Leonidas at Thermopylae Pass and Charles Martel at Tours, but also the unsung single heroes in the ranks that provided the little emphasis for the big battle to be won! (Both events discussed at length in early RNR's!).  And let us continue to remember that each of us as individuals do have a tiny but maybe even a decisive impact on the final direction taken by our local community, our nation itself, or even the world around us!
For added proof that the above claim is true, we might recall the story of Gedeon in the Old Testament, who with a very small number of men, but following the instructions of God, totally defeated a huge army of Madianites! Or also in the Old Testament, the story of how the lovely Judith managed to slay Holofernes in his sleep, the general of a mighty Armenian army which had given a hopeless Israel an ultimatum to surrender and become slaves!  Or Esther, whose influence with mighty king Artaxerxes, saved from total extinction her native Israel, doomed to die to the last person by decree requested by an evil counselor to the king, Aman by name!
And never forget the biblical account of the historical family, the Machabees, whose heroic resistance to Syrian King Antiochus IV (175 B.C.),  demanding all subjects to kneel and worship him as a king god, so inspired the conquered Jews to rise and fight, that they totally fought off the conquering Syrians, and restored their people to a victorious nation that even allied with the powerful Romans at the time to restore peace to a tragic world. The father, Mathathias Machabee, and his five sons bravely resisted the Syrians, almost miraculously winning battle after battle, helped by a growing army of inspired patriots, and thus reversed a hopeless situation for the Jewish nation.  Most of the Machabees died in the struggle, but their efforts produced a period of peace leading up to 135 B.C. which allowed them again to honor their own God, and spurn efforts of the atheistic Syrians to dictate their lives.
So what does this mean for you and me!  Simply, we must choose to join vigorously the Forces of Freedom, represented by our Christian heritage and our Constitutional government, or sit idly by and watch a growing secular society put all its trust in men and their secular wishes! Prayer and example might be one answer. Thoughtful action could well be another!
