Lady Pirates beat Culdesac 11-1
The Prairie Lady Pirates won the first game of a scheduled doubleheader from Culdesac Monday, April 26 at Cottonwood 11-1 in five innings.  They thought they had won the second game via forfeit as Culdesac was short of players.
Afterwards there was some discussion with the District 2 umpires association and the IHSAA and it was determined the game whould have been played. It will be played Friday, April 30 at 4 p.m. at Cottonwood and also serve as Prairie's Senior Night.
A doubleheader at Potlatch scheduled for Saturday, April 24 was postponed due to bad weather and rescheduled for Friday, May 7 at Potlatch starting at 4:30 p.m.
Culdesac was the home team for the first game. They had 8 players in uniform and you need 9 players to start a game. They had a ninth player who was apparently injured. She was put in the outfield near the right field line to open the game and came out after 1 pitch making it a legal game.
Prairie had a 2-out rally in the opening inning as Eve Uhlenkott singled up the middle and stole second. She went to third on a wild pitch. Josie Remacle followed with a walk and both runners advanced on another wild pitch making it 1-0. Tara Schlader then doubled to the left field corner to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning Culdesac also tried to have a 2-out rally as an error and a single came after there were 2 outs but a grounder to third got Prairie out of the inning as Amelia Uhlenkott threw out the runner at home trying to score.
It was another 2-out rally in the second inning for Prairie as Ember Martin singled up the middle with 2 outs. A passed ball sent her to second. Madison Shears reached on a dropped fly ball as Martin advanced to third and Shears made it to second. Another passed ball scored Martin and made it 3-0.
Pitcher Mackenzie Key started the second inning with 2 strikeouts then gave up a walk but the inning ended as the ninth spot in the order is an automatic out when you play with just 8 players.
Eve Uhlenkott led off the third inning by beating out an infield single. Remacle followed with a short pop fly that fell just out of reach of the shortstop in left field. Schlader walked to load the bases. Riley Enneking was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Amelia Uhlenkott then singled to left to score 2 more runs. After an out Martin picked up an infield hit to score Enneking and make it 7-0.
In the bottom of the third Key got 2 quick outs then gave up a pair of walks before getting out of the inning.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning.
In the fifth Prairie made 2 quick outs then Shears reached on an error by the third baseman. She stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single to left by Key.
Eve Uhlenkott followed with a single and Remacle was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Key and moved up the other baserunners. Schlader then walked to re-load the bases. Enneking was hit by a pitch to score another run. Amelia Uhlenkott was also hit by a pitch to make it 11-0.
In the bottom of the fifth Culdesac got their leadoff hitter on base with an error. A ground out moved her to second and she went to third on a wild pitch. A single scored her. Key then got the next 2 batters to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
Kay gave up 1 unearned run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Prairie had 9 hits led by Eve Uhlenkott who had 3 singles. Martin had 2 singles and an RBI. Schlader had a double and an RBI. Amelia Uhlenkott had a single and 3 RBI. Key had a single and an RBI and Remacle had a single.
The second game started normally as Culdesac had a leadoff triple that came in to score on a wild pitch.
Prairie answered with a run as Eve Uhlenkott singled with 2 out and scored on Remacle’s triple to the fence in left.
After the inning was over the umpires huddled with the Culdesac coach and then called over Prairie coach Jeff Martin and determined it should be a forfeit as Culdesac put only 8 players on the field in the bottom of the first. As stated above the game has been rescheduled to be played in full.
Prairie improves to 8-1 on the season and 5-1 in league play.
