Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of match against teams nicknamed Bulldogs last week. On Tuesday, Sept. 14, they swept the Grangeville version, 25-22, 25-11, 25-18 at Grangeville. On Thursday they hosted the Genesee Bulldogs and won in 5 games 25-15, 19-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-13.
At Grangeville
Prairie jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening game as Delanie Lockett scored a sideout kill and then Kristin Wemhoff served 3 straight points with Lockett picking up 2 more kills.
Prairie pused the lead to 7-1 as Tara Schlader, Laney Forsmann and Trinity Martinez each scored a kill. They made it 11-2 on a kill by Martinez and 2 aces by Forsmann. Trinity Martinez looks to tip the ball past Grangeville’s blockers. Also shown is Alli Geis.
Grangeville then rallied back within 4 points before a kill by Schlader and 2 kills by Martinez made it 14-7.
Grangeville cut the lead to 18-16 before 2 kills by Schlader bracketing an ace by Lockett made it 21-16.
Prairie got to game point at 24-20 on a kill by Martinez but missed a served and Grangeville added a kill to make it 24-22. Lockett then ended it by going cross court for a kill.
In the second game it was 2-2 when Forsmann scored a kill and then went to the service line. 9 serves later Prairie had a 12-2 lead. Forsmann had 5 aces while Schlader and Martinez scored 2 kills each.
After a pair of sideouts, Schlader had her own service run with 3 aces plus 3 kills by Martinez for an 18-3 lead.
Grangeville managed to get the lead down to 21-11 before they missed a serve and that was it for the Bulldogs. Lockett hit the ball into a block but Forsmann dug it off the block and Lockett scored a kill. Forsmann then stuffed a Grangeville spike and finished off the game with another kill.
In the third game Grangeville took the early lead at 3-6 and held the lead for the most part until Alli Geis made a save on a ball that appeared headed into the stands. Her ensuing kill made it 13-12 and a long discussion by Grangeville about whether Geis’ ball passed inside or outside the antenna led to a penalty point against Grangeville that made it 14-12. A kill by Lockett made it 15-12.
The two sides scored several sideouts until a kill by Wemhoff sent Geis to the service line. She had 2 aces and Josie Remacle and Martinez each added a kill for a 22-14 lead.
After trading sideouts, Schlader served an ace to get to match point at 24-15. Grangeville fought off match point 3 times before Martinez was able to score the match-ending kill.
Martinez had 16 kills and 1 ace in the match. Schlader had 9 kills, 13 assists and 5 aces. Lockett had 7 kills, 3 assists and 3 aces. Forsmann had 4 kills, including a block plus 1 assists and 7 aces. Wemhoff had 3 kills and 22 assists. Geis had 3 kills and 4 assists. Remacle had 2 assists. Olivia Klapprich had 1 ace and Mckenzie Key had 1 assist.
The JV team also swept the Bulldogs 25-18, 25-17, 15-9.
Isabella Walsh opened the first game with 2 aces. Then after Grangeville tied it at 3-3, Julia Rehder scored a kill and Taylor Riener followed with a 4-point run to make it 8-3. She had 2 aces while Rehder and Ember Martin each added a kill.
Grangeville rallied back within 1 at 8-7 before a kill and then an ace by Tamden Pecarovich made it 10-7. After a kill by Rehder, Grangeville again rallied within 1 point at 11-10. An ace by Martin then after sideouts a kill by Riley Enneking and 2 aces by Lexi Schumacher made it 17-11. Grangeville never got closer than 4 the rest of the way. The last time Grangeville got within 4 was at 22-18 but they then missed a serve and Riener then served up 2 aces to end the game.
Grangeville jumped out to a 2-8 lead in the second game and it took awhile for Prairie to rally back. They finally tied it at 17 on a kill by Riener. Kaylie Lockett then served out the rest of the game. She had 5 aces while Pecarovich and Schumacher each added a kill and Lockett finished off the game when her dig of a Grangeville spike found the floor on the Grangeville side.
In the third game Grangeville again took the early lead at 3-6 but 3 straight aces by Riener gave Prairie an 8-7 lead. Grangeville then tied it and took the lead back before missing a serve. Chloe Rowland then served out the match for Prairie. She had 2 aces while Lockett had 4 kills. One of Rowland’s aces finished off the match.
The C team made it a perfect 9-0 day against Grangeville 25-20, 25-19, 15-7.
Vs. Genesee
The match against Genesee appeared to be between two evenly matched teams and could have gone either way.

Also going for the block and hidden by Geis is Tara Schlader.Prairie got off to a strong start in the opening game as a kill by Schlader borke a 1-1 tie and then Lockett served 7 straight points for a 9-1 lead. She had 4 aces while Forsmann had 3 kills.
Genesee managed to cut the lead down to 3 at 13-10 before Lockett scored a kill and Klapprich followed with a 6-point service run to push the lead to 20-10. Klapprich had 3 aces with Forsmann scoring 2 kills and Lockett 1.
From that point both sides were able to side out each other’s serve until Wemhoff scored the game-winning kill on a sideout.
The second game reversed the first game as Genesee jumped out to a 2-9 lead.
Prairie then went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 9-11 before Genesee pulled away again. Genesee held on to win the game by 6.
Genesee took leads of 0-3 and 3-7 in the third game before Prairie rallied. Prairie tied the score at 8-8 on a kill by Lockett. They took their first lead of the game at 10-9 on an ace by Klapprich.
Genesee tied it the bricked a serve which gave Prairie a lead they never surrendered.
A kill by Schlader made it 13-11 and Lockett served Prairie to an 18-11 lead with 2 aces plus 2 kills by Martinez and a block by Forsmann.
Each team had a mini-run but for the most part sideouts ruled until a kill by Lockett made it 23-18 and Klapprich served out the game. She had an ace and Wemhoff finished it off with a kill.
Genesee took a 3-7 lead in the fourth game and held the lead much of the way.
A 6-point service run by Klapprich cut the deficit to just 1 at 16-17.  Klapprich had 3 aces in the run while Schlader, Lockett and Forsmann each had a kill.
Genesee was able to take a 3-point lead a couple of time and got to game point at 22-24. A kill each by Martinez and Lockett tied the game at 24 but Genesee was then able to score twice to even the match at 2 games each.
Prairie was never what you would call in control in the fifth game but they also never trailed. The score was tied 6 times, the last time at 13-13. At that point Prairie called a timeout and Genesee followed by serving long. Martinez then served an ace for the match winner.
Schlader had 16 kills in the match with 18 assists and 3 aces. Lockett had 15 kills, 4 assists and 9 aces. Forsmann had 11 kills, including two blocks, plus 3 aces. Martinez had 10 kills, including a block and 3 aces. Wemhoff had 9 kills, 25 assists and 2 aces. Geis had 4 kills, including 2 blocks, and an assist. Klapprich had a pair of back row kills and 8 assists. Key had 1 assist.
Prairie is now 6-2 on the season and 5-2 in league play.
In the JV match Prairie lost the first game then came back to win the match, 22-25, 25-20, 16-14. The third game featured an epic comeback by Prairie.
Genesee scored first but then missed a serve and Isabella Walsh served 6 straight points for a 7-2 lead. She had 4 aces while Enneking and Schumacher each added a kill.
Genesee came back to finally tie the game at 15-15 and took back the lead at 18-19, eventually going up 20-24. Prairie fought off 2 game points on a kill by Walsh and an ace by Schumacher before Genesee scored the game winner.
In the second game Walsh served 3 aces for a 3-0 lead but Genesee answered with 4 straight points. The two teams traded the lead until Lockett scored a kill to make it 9-8. Prairie never trailed again in the game. Lockett followed that kill up with 3 straight serving points for a 12-8 lead. She had an ace and Enneking and Pecarovich each added a kill.
Prairie led by as many as 5 at 16-11 after a 3-point service run by Schumacher.
Genesee came back though and tied the game at 19.
Walsh scored the sideout kill and Riener served 3 straight points for a 23-19 lead. Pecarovich had 2 kills and Lockett added one. Genesee scored a sideout but Prairie came right back with a kill by Lockett. Pecarovich then served an ace to even the match at 1 game each.
In the decisive third game Prairie scored first on a kill each by Walsh and Riener but Genesee then scored 10 straight points for a 3-10 lead.
Prairie was still behind 5-12 when they started to rally after a missed Genesee serve.
An ace by Pecarovich was followed by a dig for a kill by Pecarovich and then a kill by Rehder to make it 9-12.
Genesee scored the sideout but Walsh answered with a sideout kill. Martin followed with an ace to make it 11-13.
Genesee then scored the sideout to get to match point at 11-14. A kill by Enneking sent Schumacher to the service line. An ace was followed by a kill by Pecarovich to tie the game at 14-14. Schumacher then served 2 aces to pull out the game and the match as Prairie scored 5 straight points after Genesee got to match point.
The C team won both of their games 25-18, 25-21.
