Lady Pirates win two league matches
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of league volleyball matches this past week. On Tuesday, Sept. 21, they won in five sets at Lapwai 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-11. They then hosted Logos on Thursday, Sept. 23 and won in straight sets, 25-20, 25-20, 27-25.
The Border Battle in Pomeroy that was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, was cancelled due to Covid issues with some of the participating schools.
At Lapwai
The match against Lapwai was much tougher than the first time around against the Wildcats as Lapwai showed improvement on the defensive side. Delanie Lockett goes for a spike at Lapwai. She had a big week for the Lady Pirates last week.
Prairie jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening game as Delanie Lockett scored a sideout kill and Kristin Wemhoff served 3 straight points. She had an ace while Lockett and Laney Forsmann each scored a kill.
Two aces by Tara Schlader increased the lead to 11-4.
Lapwai was able to trim the lead down to just 2 points at 17-15 before a kill by Trinity Martinez and 2 aces by Forsmann made it 20-15. After a trade of sideouts, Schlader served 2 aces and Olivia Klapprich added a back row kill to make it 24-16.
Lapwai fought off 2 game points before Alli Geis slammed a ball off a Lapwai block for the game-winner.
In the second game a kill by Forsmann and an ace by Wemhoff made it 2-0. Lapwai came right back with 3 straight to take the lead and mostly held the lead until a kill by Forsmann made it 12-11.
After a trade of sideouts, Wemhoff served Prairie to a 17-12 lead with 3 aces plus a kill by Lockett. Lapwai answered back and took back the lead at 19-20.
Prairie held their final lead at 22-21 after a kill by Lockett. A hitting error by the Pirates tied the game and Lapwai served it out to tie the match at 1 game each.
Lapwai scored to start the third game then Lockett scored a sideout to tie it and Wemhoff served 4 straight for a 5-2 lead. Lockett had 2 more kills, Forsmann scored on a block and Wemhoff served an ace.
Prairie never trailed the rest of the game. Lapwai got within 2 at 5-3 but Prairie answered with 4 straight points as Martinez scored 2 kills and Forsmann stuffed a hard hit Lapwai spike attempt.
Lapwai was able to rally back within 3 at 12-9 before a dig by Klapprich and an ace by Martinez made it 14-9.
It was 17-12 when Schlader scored a kill to send Lockett to the service line. Lockett served 3 aces while Forsmann scored 2 kills and Schlader 1 as Prairie got to 24-12 before Lapwai scored a sideout. Forsmann came right back with a kill for the game-winner and a 2 games to 1 lead.
The fourth game followed the alternating wins pattern although Prairie managed to jump out to a 3-0 lead as Wemhoff, Klapprich and Lockett each scored a kill.
Lapwai came back to take their first lead at 6-7 and led 8-10 before missing a serve. Wemhoff served 4 straight points with an ace and a kill each by herself, Lockett and Forsmann for a 13-10 lead. Lapwai answered right back through with 5 straight points to retake the lead.
A monumental point where it seemed like the ball crossed the net about 20 times ended with a kill by Lockett to cut the lead to 1 but a missed serve thwarted any possible momentum.
Prairie managed to take back the lead to 20-19 on an ace by Klapprich but Lapwai scored twice to retake the lead. Prairie tied it again at 21 but managed only 1 more point as Lapwai evened the match.
The fifth game saw Lapwai take a quick 0-2 lead  but Prairie came back to tie it several times before finally taking their first lead on an ace by Schlader at 7-6.
The game was tied again at 7, 8, 9 and 10. Lapwai took their final lead on an ace to make it 10-11. Forsmann then scored a kill to send Lockett to the service line. An ace was followed by a block by Schlader. Forsmann then scored a pair of kills to give Prairie the match.
Forsmann had 20 kills including 3 blocks and added an assist and 3 aces. Lockett had 18 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Martinez had 15 kills, 1 assist and an ace. Schlader had 11 kills, 23 assists and 5 aces. Wemhoff had 7 kills, 40 assists and 9 aces. Klapprich had 4 back row kills, 2 assists and an ace. Geis had 3 kills and 1 assist. Josie Remacle had 2 kills. Mackenzie Key had 1 assist.
In the JV match, Prairie won 25-15, 25-18, 11-15.
In the first game a kill and then an ace by Isabella Walsh gave prairie a 2-0 lead. Lapwai then took leads of 3-7 and 5-9.
A kill by Ember Martin sent Tamden Pecarovich to the service line for a pair of aces that cut the deficit to 1 point.
However Prairie again fell back down by 3 at 8-11. A kill by Julia Rehder sent Martin back to serve and she had a 7-point run that gave Prairie back the lead. She had 6 aces and Rehder added a kill to make it 16-11.
Lapwai cut the lead back to 1 at 16-15 before a carry cost them a sideout. Lexi Schumacher then served out the game. She had 6 aces and Riley Enneking added 2 kills for the 10-point win.
The second game was close early on and was tied at 6-6 when Walsh scored a kill ad Holli Schumacher followed with a pair of service points as Rehder scored 2 kills. After a trade of sideouts, Lexi Schumacher served an ace for an 11-7 lead.  Prairie gradually added a point or two to the lead until an ace by Lexi Schumacher made it 24-16. Lapwai fought off 2 match points before Martin scored the game winning kill.
In the third game it was close with Prairie holding a 9-6 lead after 2 service points by Pecarovich. The rest of the game was mostly Lapwai as they outscored Prairie 2-9 to salvage a win.
The C team split their two games, 17-25, 26-24.
