Lady Pirates win 2, lose 2
The Prairie Lady Pirates volleyball team had a busy week. On Tuesday, Oct. 12, they traveled to Genesee where they lost in 5 sets, 25-27, 25-20, 16-25, 25-21, 14-16, to close out their league schedule. On Wednesday, Oct. 13, they had senior night and swept Grangeville, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.  Finally on Saturday, Oct. 16, they opened District Tournament action at Potlatch and lost to Logos 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 11-25, then beat Lapwai 26-24, 25-27, 24-26, 25-19, 15-4.
They were to play Genesee on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the LCSC Activity Center. They lost that match in 4 games to end their season. Match details next week.
At Genesee
Prairie had the #3 seed into District locked up before going to Genesee but still played a tough back and forth battle against the Bulldogs as the two team won alternating sets. Prairie came up just short in the fifth and deciding set.
Vs. Grangeville
7 seniors were honored on Senior Night against Grangeville before the match. They were Trinity Martinez, Delanie Lockett, Olivia Klapprich, Mackenzie Key, Laney Forsmann, Ali Rehder and Josie Remacle. Josie Remacle spikes the ball on Senior Night vs. Grangeville. In the opening game against Grangeville Prairie took an 8-4 lead after 2 aces by Tara Schlader. Grangeville turned that around and built a 10-14 lead. The Pirates came back to tie it at 17 and again at 18 on a kill by Josie Remacle. Ali Rehder then served Prairie into the lead with 4 straight points. Delanie Lockett had 3 kills and Remacle added a kill.
After 4 straight sideouts, Prairie had a 24-20 lead. Grangeville fought off 3 straight game points before Kristin Wemhoff scored the game winning kill on a bump over the net.
In the second game Prairie took a 7-1 lead as Lockett had a 4-point service run.  She had an ace while Trinity Martinez, Wemhoff and Laney Forsmann each had a kill.
Grangeville rallied back within 1 at 10-9 but could never even tie it much less take the lead. An ace by Wemhoff made it a 3 point lead. An ace by Lockett and 2 kills by Forsmann made it a 6-point lead at 17-11. 2 aces by Forsmann and a kill by Remacle made it 21-14.
Grangeville got back within 4 at 22-18 but a kill by Wemhoff, an ace by Martinez and a kill by Remacle ended the game.
Wemhoff served Prairie to a 4-0 lead in the third game with an ace, 2 kills by Alli Geis and a kill by Locket.
Grangeville answered with 4 straight to tie it but couldn’t take the lead. A kill and a block by Schlader and a kill by Martinez made it 7-4.
Grangeville got back within 1 at 12-11 but a tip by Lockett and an ace by Remacle made it 14-11. A sideout kill and then an ace by Wemhoff plus a kill by Schlader made it 17-12.
Grangeville cut the lead to 2 at 17-15 but a kill by Lockett, a kill by Martinez and an ace by Lcokett made it 20-15.
At 21-18 Grangeville served it into the net and Schlader served out the match. Martinez and Remacle each had a kill and Schlader ended it with an ace.
For the match Martinez had 12 kills and an ace. Lockett had 10 kills, an assist and 3 aces. Remacle had 7 kills including 2 blocks, an assist and an ace. Schlader had 7 kills, including a block, 19 assists and 4 aces. Wemhoff had 4 kills, 17 assists and 5 aces. Forsmann had 4 kills, an assist and 2 aces. Klapprich had 2 kills and 2 assists. Geis had 2 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Key had 1 kill.
Prairie ended the regular season with a 9-5 record in lead, tied for third with Genesee and 11-5 overall.
The JV team played their final match of the year and bet Grangeville 23-25, 25-17, 15-11.
The first game was a back and forth battle as the lead changed several times. Prairie had the biggest lead of the game at 14-9 but saw that turn into a 16-17 deficit.
Grangeville’s biggest lead came at 18-21 then Julia Rehder scored a kill and Ember Martin went back to serve. She had 2 aces. Tamden Pecarovich and Isabella Walsh each scored a kill for a 23-21 lead.
Grangeville scored a sideout and then scored the next 3 points to pull out the opening set win.
In the second set Prairie took a 7-3 lead as Taylor Riener scored 4 straight aces but Grangeville came back to take a 9-10 lead.
A kill by Pecarovich and 2 aces by Lexi Schumacher put Prairie back on top at 12-10. Grangeville was able to tie the score at 12 and again at 13 but never took back the lead.
Kaylie Lockett scored the go-ahead sideout kill and then served the next 7 points. She had 1 ace while Aubree Rehder scored 3 kills and Walsh, Riener and Pecarovich each added a kill for a 21-13 lead. Grangeville got no closer than 6 the rest of the game as Prairie evened the match at a game each.
In the deciding third game Prairie jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Walsh served 3 aces and Riener, Walsh and Holli Schumacher each scored a kill.
Grangeville came back to tie the game at 7-7 and eventually took the lead at 8-9 before missing a serve.
Chloe Rowland then served Prairie back into the lead as Julia Rehder scored a kill, Grangeville was called for a net foul and Rowland served an ace for a 12-9 lead.
Grangeville scored a sideout but Lockett scored a sideout kill and then served an ace.
Grangeville scored another sideout before Julia Rehder ended the match with a cross court kill.
The C team also won their final match of the year 25-17, 25-22, 15-11.
Vs. Logos at District
Prairie struggled in their first 7½ games at District but managed to survive and advance out of the Potlatch portion of the tournament.
In the opener against Logos, a team they beat twice during the season, Prairie played a back and forth first game that saw Prairie up 18-16 after an ace by Klapprich.
Logos then scored the next 4 points and never trailed again. Prairie three times got back within 1 at 19-20, 20-21 and 21-22. Logos scored 3 of the final 4 points to win the game.
In the second game Prairie led 2-0 on a kill each by Lockett and Schlader. They also led by 2 at 4-2 but a missed serve led to 6 straight points by Logos and the Knights never trailed again.
Prairie got within 2 late in the game at 18-20 on an ace by Martinez but would score only 1 more point as they fell behind 0 games to 2.
The third game finally saw Prairie get some separation in a back and forth game when Lockett served 4 straight points. A kill by Schlader tied it then 4 straight kills by Martinez with Lockett serving made it 18-14.
Logos never got closer than 2 the rest of the game. Klapprich finished it off with 2 aces.
Unfortunately Prairie did not carry any momentum from that win into the fourth game as they fell behind 1-5 and 4-11 on their way to a 14-point loss.
That dropped them into an elimination match against Lapwai.
For the match, Martinez had 14 kills and 3 aces. Schlader had 10 kills, 21 assists and 2 aces. Lockett had 8 kills, 2 assists and 1 ace. Remacle had 6 kills, including a block. Forsmann had 5 kills, including 2 blocks, plus 1 assist and 1 ace. Wemhoff had 4 kills and 15 assists. Geis had 3 kills, 1 assists and 3 aces. Rehder had 1 kill and 2 assists. Key had 1 kill and 1 assist. Klapprich had 2 assists and 5 aces.
Vs. Lapwai
In the match against Lapwai Prairie faced another team they had beaten twice during the season and struggled until midway through the fourth game. Then it was like a switch was flipped and Prairie played like a #3 seed should against the #7 seed.

Geis took over serving at 5-3 and served Prairie to a 9-3 lead. Remacle had 2 kills while Wemhoff and Martinez each had 1.
Lapwai came right back though to pull within 9-7 and eventually took a 14-15 lead.
It was tied at 17 when Geis scored a kill and then went back to serve. An ace, a block by Remacle and then 2 more kills by Remacle made it 22-17.
Lapwai however came back to take a 23-24 lead. A kill by Remacle tied it and then with Martinez serving, Lockett scored 2 kills as Prairie escaped with a first game win.
In the second game they fell behind 0-3 but Wemhoff served them to an 8-3 lead. She had 2 aces while Geis had 3 kills and Lockett 2.
Lapwai however came right back and too a 9-10 lead.
Prairie wouldn’t take back the lead until a kill by Remacle made it 22-21.
Lapwai came back to take a 23-24 lead but Remacle tied it with a kill. Lapwai again got to game point before a kill by Lockett tied it at 25-25.
Lapwai then scored the next 2 points to even the match.
In the third game Prairie led early at 5-1  and 7-2 then Lapwai took over building an 8-11 lead.
Praiorie answered back with a 6-point service run by Martinez for a 15-11 lead. She had 4 aces and Remacle and Lockett each had a kill.
Lapwai fought back though and took an 18-20 lead.
Prairie got to game point at 24-22 after a smashing kill by Remacle. However that was Prairie’s last point as Lapwai scored 4 straight points to take a 1 game to 2 lead.
Prairie then fell behind 0-5, 1-9, 3-12 and 4-14 in the fourth game and it looked like their season might be done.
That’s when the switch got flipped. Wemhoff scored a sideout kill and Martinez served 4 straight points to cut the lead to 9-14. She had an ace while Lockett had 2 kills and Wemhoff 1.
After a sideout, Lockett scored a sideout kill and Klapprich served Prairie into a 16-15 led. She had 2 aces while Lockett, Forsmann, Rehder and Wemhoff each had a kill.
Lapwai briefly took back the lead at 16-17 but a tip by Lockett and an ace by Wemhoff put Prairie back on top. Prairie never trailed again. Lapwai tied it at 18 but a kill by Schlader, 2 aces by Lockett and a tip by Martinez made it 22-18.
After a sideout, Martinez slammed a kill off a Lapwai block attempt and Forsmann served out the game. An ace made it 24-19 and a kill by Schlader evened the match at a game each.
Lapwai seemed to deflate after losing when they had a 10-point lead and Prairie dominated the fifth game.
Wemhoff served Prairie to a 7-0 lead with 5 aces plus a kill by Lockett and a net violation by Lapwai.
After a sideout, Schlader made a block to send Lockett to the service line. Lockett served Prairie to match point with 2 aces plus 4 kills by Martinez.
Lapwai fought off match points 3 times before Martinez ended it with a kill.
Lockett had 21 kills, 6 assists and 5 aces in the match. Martinez had 16 kills and 5 aces. Remacle had 15 kills including 2 blocks. Schlader had 11 kills including a block plus 45 assists. Wemhoff had 7 kills, 11 assists and 9 aces. Geis had 5 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Forsmann had 3 kills and 1 ace. Rehder had 1 kill and 1 assist. Klapprich had 1 assist and 2 aces. Key had 2 assists.
Prairie is now 12-6 on the season.
