Lady Pirates season ended by Genesee
For the second straight season the Prairie volleyball team was eliminated at District by Genesee. The Lady Pirates lost to the Bulldogs 11-25, 20-25, 25-13, 13-25 Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston.Trinity Martinez had 19 kills against Genesee but it wasn’t enough for the Pirates to extend their season.
Prairie led early in the opening game by 2 points on 3 occasions, the last at 5-3 on a kill by Trinity Martinez. Genesee then scored 3 in a row to take the lead. Prairie tied it on a kill by Delanie Lockett then Genesee took over.
Genesee’s Makenzie Stout served 14 straight points for a 6-20 Genesee lead before a kill by Kristin Wemhoff ended the run.
Prairie got back within 11 on an ace by Olivia Klapprich but wound up losing by 14.
The second game was similar to the first in that it was close early on with Prairie tying the score at 5-5. Genesee scored a sideout and Stout served 7 straight this time for a 5-13 Genesee lead.
Genesee pushed the lead to 10 at 7-17 before prairie started to rally back.
Prairie trailed 13-22 when Genesee missed a served. Tara Schlader then served Prairie back into the game. She had 2 aces with Martinez scoring 3 kills and Alli Geis another as Prairie closed within 2 at 20-22.
Genesee then scored the sideout and served out the game.
Prairie played their best volleyball of the night in the third game.
Genesee scored first but Prairie answered with 5 straight points. Wemhoff scored the sideout kill then Lockett served 2 aces and Martinez added 2 kills.
A kill by Schlader made it 7-3 then she served an ace and Martinez added another kill for a 9-3 lead.
Genesee twice got within 3 at 11-8 and 12-9 where a missed serve sent Lockett back to the service line. Lockett served 5 straight points with Martinez picking up 4 kills and Geis scoring one off of a Genesee block attempt for an 18-9 lead.
Martinez served the final 3 points of the game which were a kill by Lockett, an ace, and a kill by Josie Remacle in a 25-13 win.
Prairie couldn’t take any of that momentum into the fourth game though as Genesee jumped out to a 1-10 lead.
The closest Prairie got after that was 6 points at 11-17 after a 4-point service run by Wemhoff where Geis had 2 blocks plus a kill and Wemhoff served an ace.
Genesee answered back with a 5-point run that got them to match point. Prairie fought off 1 match point but Genesee came through on the second chance.
For the match Martinez had 19 kills and 1 ace. Lockett had 8 kills, including a block, 1 assist and 3 aces. Geis had 5 kills, including 2 blocks. Wemhoff had 4 kills, 9 assists and 2 aces. Remacle had 3 kills. Schlader had 1 kill, 18 assists and 3 aces. Laney Forsmann had 1 block, 1 assist and 1 ace. Klapprich had 1 ace while Ali Rehder and Mackenzie Key each had 1 assist.
With the loss Prairie sees their season end with a record of 12-7.
