20 turn out for Prairie Girls Basketball
There are 20 girls turned out for the Prairie Girls Basketball team this year.
There are 3 returning starters off of last year’s state runner-up team. They are senior Delanie Lockett and juniors Kristin Wemhoff and Tara Schlader.
Other seniors on the team this year are Olivia Klapprich, Ali Rehder, Josie Remacle, Molly Johnson, Laney Forsmann and Gracie Farr.
There are also 3 swing players who will play both JV and varsity. They are junior Riley Enneking, sophomore Isabella Walsh and freshman Lexi Schumacher.
After resigning at the end of last year’s season, Lori Mader had a change of heart and is back for her twelfth season as head coach of the Lady Pirates. A new addition is her assistant coach, Ang Wemhoff, who played for Mader several years ago.
In addition to the swing players the JV team has sophomores Taylor Riener, Alli Geis and Sarah Lustig and freshmen Aubree Rehder, Kadence Kalmbach, Kaylie Lockett, Ellie Nuxoll and Natalie Goeckner.
As usual the teams to beat in the league will be Lapwai and Genesee. Prairie should battle those two for the top spots in the league and at District.
This year the district will have 2.5 teams qualifying for State. The third place team at District will play the District 1 champion in a play-in game.
