Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle

To the Editor
I was contemplating why the ideas of the Communist Manifesto have dominated our society since the Civil War.  It coincides with the popularity of the theory of evolution which promotes secularism and materialism.  The Communists would have us believe that Capitalism is the enemy and once destroyed, normal and healthy human relationships will somehow reassert their dominance in society;  All capitalism (the enemy) is, is private ownership of sufficient property to control or influence the means of production.
We can clearly see the cancer of capitalism in our recent history.  The robber barons of oil and railroad monopolizing the means of distribution and production, the rise of super industry, building products that are so complex that small business really can't compete with, and now the rise of the super technologies that seem to threaten the very essence of what a human being is along with its incipient ability to manipulate and fragment popular thought.
All of this exposes the materialistic and selfish attitudes of these enterprise owners.  It's cut-throat out there.
This has driven us into the creation of a regulatory branch of the US and state governments that now oversees almost all means of production which I am sure many had hoped would curb the greed and power of the corporations, but has instead resulted in a loss of true competition and centralized control over government regulatory institutions by the very monsters they were created to control.
It seems to me that the driving force behind all this greed and control are the ideas of secularism and materialism which simply free the conscience from playing the restraining role it was created to play in our lives.
It is so uncanny how little real evidence and scientific support the theory of evolution has going for it and yet it permeates our literature and thinking everywhere.  But when you get down to it, the evolutionists have to admit that the only real reason why they must support the idea is because the thought of an intelligent creator is simply unacceptable.

Why is this unacceptable?  I would have to say it is due to the fear of guilt one would face if one were to admit to a creator and a moral authority.
The most obvious sins apparent to just about everyone are lying and stealing.  It is extremely hard to find an adequate moral argument to justify either of these obvious and simple crimes against our brothers and sisters.  The Communists have moved the theft and lying into a vague and fuzzy collective idea, allowing the state to sin at will and never having to take responsibility for it.  But alas, even on an individual basis it is quite hard to find a consistently truthful and trustable person.  As secularism and materialism attempt to free us from our religious chains of moral guilt, our sin simply increases and the obvious decay continues.
The Capitalists also have no excuse but will throw up the “god of success” as the necessity for the sin of lying to and stealing from its own customers.
Nobody wants slavery yet by today's "Aldus Huxley" type of comfortable, convenient and secure lifestyles, we are accepting it one step at a time and find it hard to find that line in the sand where correcting our problems becomes a big enough priority to cause implementation.
Sin is easy to spot.  Anything that defies Truth or Love is sin.  It's that simple.
Secularism and materialism attempt to shield us from the glaring light of truth and love that built this world but that shield just helps sin to consume us faster.
Christians really have the only answer to this dilemma because they have a God that sacrificed himself to pay for our sin and guilt and set us free to pursue truth and love with confidence and grace.
God gave us all we need to make our home a heaven or a hell and no amount of hiding or lying or stealing will get us to what we truly desire: truth, love and the resultant liberty to love ourselves and others.
The price of sin will be paid.  The choice is who will pay that price: Christ or ourselves?

Redneck Review!
No. 344 - 11/28/21
Back to the present! Last week we took a look at the past, in an article taken from the ancestor of these RNR's. called in the 1980's, LET FREEDOM RING! The article you saw was a direct copy of that Sept. 1, 1983 quote from Alexander Solzhenitsyn, a world famous "Russian novelist, historian, and political prisoner" who had come to the U.S. and was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal in June of that year.  Bluntly, in that interview, Solzhenitsyn stated, "The Time when the U.S. could  save itself by its own exertion may already have passed. To save itself would require a change of attitudes, when in fact these attitudes are still going the wrong way. Instead of girding itself for a struggle, the West is still hoping for outside forces to save it through a kind of miracle."
At that point, a quotation from that 1983 LET FREEDOM article, entitled "A Blast from the Past," added the comment on Solzhenitsyn's remark, "They have ears but hear not, and eyes but see not." Very appropriate it is claimed here, since following directly from last week's RNR, was a small list of goals of the Communist Party, given us by Cleon Skousen in his 1961 book, THE NAKED COMMUNIST.  Anyone seeing those few Communist goals would have to admit, THEY HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED by events which have happened and are still happening in our own country today. In RNR 342 two weeks ago, we quoted Soviet head man Nikita Khrushchev who brazenly claimed in 1959, "We cannot expect Americans to jump from Capitalism to Communism but we can give their leaders small doses of socialism until they awake to find they have Communism."
Well folks, is it not obvious that as a nation, "We have ears that hear not, and eyes that see not?"  Do we not really see that the historically proven failed effort to convert free nations to Communism by first luring them in with the free offers of socialism is not in full bloom in our own country?  Not even hidden any more, but supported by our press and our colleges, even being taught in many high schools, using the long and successive efforts of Marxists who date back to Lenin and Stalin?  And have they not put these destroyers of nations and now maybe our own even in our own government? Is it really possible that we really did freely elect the group we have in office today, and who are promoting the failed system used in the past to take over one nation after the other on the face of our earth?
Oh, is the claim about the success of the methods used really not fake news?  Is it not really false to cite the dismal record of the socialist, Communist efforts in our past?  What about the historical record telling us of the history of the city of Hong Kong, given 100 years of freedom from Communist China by international treaties, which ended shortly before 2000? Researchers will note the unbelievable wealth and freedom which had characterized that city prior to their forced return to the government of Communist China.  And the record is there for the curious to learn what has happened since.   And the historical proof goes on!
Study once again the dismal record of East Germany compared to West Germany after WWII. Why the Communists had to BUILD A WALL to keep the East Germans from flooding out of the Communist "paradise" that had been established there!  Wow!  Why would we not want the same thing here?  Or what about comparing life in Communist North Taiwan with free South Taiwan?  Is this not another example of the path we are taking today in our country?  And Oh yes!  Do we not know the current conditions in Venezuela, reduced to starvation with huge inflation by the 50 year government there dominated by first Chavez, and lately by Maduro? And of course, while doing the research, do not omit Russia, China, Cuba and Vietnam! And the list goes on for the determined researcher!   Could it be that we are next?
