7 girls, 9 boys out for Patriot basketball
For the first time in several years the St. John Bosco Patriots have both boys and girls varsity basketball teams.
There are 7 girls turned out and 9 boys.
The only seniors are Jade Prigge and Dani Sonnen on the girls team. They are joined by 5 freshmen: Noelle Chmelik, Sarah Waters, Julia Wassmuth, Rachel Sonnen and Raylie Warren.
Prigge and Dani Sonnen were both on the Prairie team last year although Sonnen wound up being unable to play due to an injury.
Alyssa Frei, a Summit Academy graduate, is the head coach this season.
The boys team is led by 5 juniors: Cody Wassmuth, Luke Stubbers, Clay Weckman, Tory Chmelik and Levi Wassmuth. They are joined by 3 sophomores: Stallone Hoene, Matthew Warren and Dustin Kaschmitter, and one freshman: Elijah Rauzi.
Alex Frei returns as head coach with Kim Frei as the assistant coach.

Patriots basketball season gets underway
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots finally got to play after two cancellations as they lost to Clearwater Valley at Kooskia Thursday, Dec. 2, 24-46. Meanwhile the St. John Bosco boys split their first two games, winning 56-22 over Meadows Valley at New Meadows on Tuesday, Nov. 30 before losing at C.V. 48-57 on Thursday, Dec. 2.
Boys at Meadows Valley
Troy Chmelik had a double-double to lead the Patriots to their season opening win at Meadows Valley. He had 23 points and 11 rebounds.
The Patriots took a  14-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 31-14 by halftime. They outscored the Mountaineers 17-2 in the third quarter for a 48-16 lead that led to a running clock for the entire fourth quarter.
They held an 8-6 edge in the fourth quarter to win by 34 points.
Also scoring in double figures for the Patriots were Luke Stubbers with 15 points and Cody Wassmuth with 11. Levi Wassmuth scored 3 while Stallone Hoene and Clay Weckman each scored 2. Stubbers had the only 3-point goal in the game.
Levi Wassmuth topped the Patriots in rebounds with 13.

Boys at C.V.
The boys suffered their first loss at C.V. by a score of 48-57. No other information available.
Girls at C.V.
The girls had their season opener at Kooskia and struggled to find offense against the Rams as they didn’t score more than 8 points in any quarter.
C.V. led 5-12 after 1 quarter and 13-26 at the half.
Each team scored 6 in the third quarter and C.V. pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Patriots 5-14.
Jade Prigge, one of 2 seniors on the team along with 5 freshmen, led the scoring with 11 points. Fellow senior Dani Sonnen scored 4 as did Julia Wassmuth. Raylie Warren scored 3 while Sarah Waters scored 2.
The Lady Patriots are 0-1 on the season.
