Lady Pirates win 2 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates lost a non-league game to Grangeville this past week, then bounced back to win a pair of league games against Kamiah and Logos.
On Tuesday, Jan. 11, they lost to Grangeville at Cottonwood 37-49. On Thursday, Jan. 13, they beat Kamiah 52-19, also at Cottonwood. Finally, on Saturday, Jan. 15, they traveled to Moscow and beat Logos 81-28.
Vs. Grangeville
For 3 quarters Grangeville would surge ahead in the game and Prairie would rally back. However in the fourth quarter Grangeville was able to take control and hold on for a 12-point win. Grangeville jumped out to a 2-11 lead in the first quarter but Prairie answered back by finishing the quarter with an 8-0 run. Josie Remacle made 2 baskets while Kristin Wemhoff and Delanie Lockett each scored to make it 10-11 at the end of the quarter.
Tara Schlader then made it a 10-0 run to open the second quarter as Prairie took their first lead of the game at 12-11.
Grangeville answered with 4 straight points but Lockett scored to cut the lead to 1. After a 0-6 run by Grangeville, Lockett closed out the half with a 3-point shot to cut the lead to 17-21.
Grangeville was able to push the lead to 9 at 20-29 in the third quarter but Prairie finished the quarter with a 10-2 run to pull within 1 after 3 quarters. Schlader had 2 free throws and a pair of baskets in that run and Wemhoff added 2 baskets to make it 30-31 after three.
In the fourth quarter, Grangeville’s Macy Smith scored 2 baskets and then a 3-pointer and Camden Barger added a 3 as the Bulldogs scored the first 10 points of the quarter to take an 11 point lead.
Prairie was unable to get closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Remacle wound up leading Prairie in scoring with 12 points. Schlader scored 9, Wemhoff 8, Lockett 7 and Laney Forsmann 1.
Smith had the big fourth quarter for Grangeville but it was a JV swing player, Marie Thacker, that kept them in the lead in the third quarter by scoring 8 of their 10 points.
Prairie had a 35-28 advantage on the board sled by Schlader with 13 rebounds and Wemhoff with 10.
Wemhoff had 6 steals and 7 assists.
Prairie was 15 for 38 from the field, 39%, and 6 for 21 at the line, 29%. Grangeville was 17 for 45 from the field, 38%, and 10 for 15 at the line, 67%.
Grangeville dominated the JV game as they won 20-47.
Grangeville led 3-12 after 1 quarter with Alli Geis scoring a basket and Sarah Lustig a free throw for Prairie.
It was 9-30 at the half. Lustig and Lexi Schumacher each had a basket in the second quarter while Kaylie Lockett and Riley Enneking each had a free throw.
Prairie scored just 1 point in the third quarter, a free throw by Geis. Grangeville led 10-38 after 3 quarters.
Schumacher finally broke through and scored 9 points in the fourth quarter and Lockett added another free throw as Prairie was able to keep Grangeville from invoking a running clock.
Schumacher scored 11 to lead the team with Geis and Lustig scoring 3 each. Lockett scored 2 and Enneking 1.
Grangeville had a 28-31 rebounding edge. Enneking led Prairie with 7 rebounds.
Lustig had 5 steals while Schumacher had 4. Enneking had 2 assists.
Prairie was 7 for 27 from the field, 26%, and 6 for 20 at the line, 30%. Grangeville was 20 for 44 from the field, 45%, and 6 for 16 at the line, 38%.

Vs Kamiah
Against Kamiah the Lady Pirates jumped out to an 18-4 lead after 1 quarter and cruised to a 52-19 win.
Prairie led 28-11 at the half and 50-17 after 3 quarters.
With a running clock in the fourth quarter, each team scored just 2 points.
Wemhoff led the scoring with 18 points and had 4 assists. Schlader and Remacle each had a double-double. Schlader had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Remacle had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Laney Forsmann scored 9 points while Lockett scored just 1 point but had 6 steals.
Kamiah won the 2-quarter JV game 17-26.

At Logos
On Saturday at Logos the game was competitive in the first quarter as Prairie led just 10-8 with 5:16 left in the quarter. From that point until halftime the Pirates outscored Logos 33-10 for a 43-18 halftime lead.

She scored 7 in the first quarter and 13 in the second. She was 6 for 6 in the second quarter which included a 3-point shot.
Schlader made 4 of 5 shots in the first quarter and had 9 points while Lockett scored 4 as Prairie led 20-12 at the end of the quarter.
Olivia Klapprich scored a pair of baskets in the second quarter and Lockett. Schlader and Forsmann scored 2 each.
In the third quarter Prairie scored the first 16 points  to balloon their lead from 24 to 41 at 59-18.
Forsmann scored 7 of the first 9 points with Schlader scoring on a putback. Schlader then scored the next 7.
Logos finally broke the dry spell with a basket at the 4:54 mark.
Lockett and Schlader each scored a basket then Logos scored a pair of free throws.
Ali Rehder scored the final 9 points of the quarter, hitting 4 straight shots including a 3-pointer.
With a 72-22 lead, the fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
Forsmann scored another basket in the fourth quarter with Lexi Schumacher hitting a 3. Wemhoff and Schlader each scored a basket to put Prairie over 80 points.
Schlader wound up with 24 and Wemhoff 20 to lead the scoring. Forsmann added 11 with Rehder scoring 9, Lockett 8, Klapprich 4 and Schumacher 3.
Prairie had a 27-21 rebounding edge led by Schlader and Forsmann with 8 each.
Schlader had 6 steals while Wemhoff had 5. Schlader and Wemhoff each had 6 assists.
Prairie was 38 for 62 from the field, 61%, and 3 for 6 at the line, 50%. Logos was 11 for 35 from the field, 31%, and 8 for 10 at the line, 80%.
Prairie is now 10-3 on the season and 9-1 in league play.
Prairie dominated the 2-quarter JV game, winning 28-6.
Prairie jumped out to a 9-0 lead with Taylor Riener scoring twice on inbounds plays and Geis on another inbounds play. Isabella Walsh scored a free throw and then a basket.
After a Logos baskets, Geis converted a 3-point play to make it 12-2.
Logos scored to make it 12-4 at the end of the quarter.
The Knights opened the second quarter with a basket to pull within 6 but then went scoreless over the final 7:30 of the game.
Prairie meanwhile closed out the game with a 16-0 run.
Geis scored 10 of those points, 6 of them on inbounds plays. Walsh, Schumacher and Ellie Nuxoll each added a basket.
Geis wound up with 15 points to lead the scoring. Walsh scored 5, Riener 4 and Schumacher and Nuxoll 2 each.
Logos had a slight rebounding edge at 17-18. Nuxoll led Prairie with 4 rebounds.
Enneking, Schumacher and Geis each had 4 steals while Walsh had 7 assists, mostly on inbounds passes.
The JV’s were 12 for 29 from the field, 41%, and 2 for 4 at the line, 50%. Logos was 3 for 17 from the field, 18%, and 0 for 5 at the line.
