Lady Pirates win 4 games
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 4 games to finish their regular season. On Tuesday, Jan. 25, they won 67-28 at Orofino. On Thursday, Jan. 27, they beat Clearwater Valley 51-15 at Cottonwood. On Friday they finished up their league scheduled by defeating Potlatch 71-47 on Senior Night at Cottonwood. Finally on Monday, Jan. 31, they traveled to Kendrick and won 46-44 after overcoming an 18 point deficit.
At Orofino
In the game at Orofino the Lady Pirates jumped out to a 19-0 lead and led 27-3 after one quarter. Ali Rehder looks to shoot at Orofino as Kristin Wemhoff looks on.
Kristin Wemhoff scored 9 of those first 19 points while Tara Schlader scored 5, Laney Forsmann scored 3 and Josie Remacle 2.
Orofino finally scored with 2:24 left in the quarter when they made a free throw.
Schlader and Delanie Lockett then each scored a basket for a 23-1 lead.
Orofino scored their first basket with 1:00 left in the quarter. Wemhoff added 2 free throws and Lockett a putback to make it 27-3.
Prairie went with full-court pressure in the opening quarter and forced 14 turnovers. They pulled it back to a half-court trap in the second and Orofino was able to at least get the ball across halfcourt and scored 11 points in the second quarter.
Prairie still outscored the Maniacs 23-11 as they took a 50-14 halftime lead.
Schlader scored 9 points in the second quarter while Forsmann scored 4. Isabella Walsh had a 3-pointer while Wemhoff, Ali Rehder and Gracie Farr scored 2 each and Lockett added 1.
The intensity on the Pirates side backed off considerably in the third quarter but they still outscored Orofino 10-8. Forsmann scored 6 of those 10 points while Wemhoff scored the other 4.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock as Prairie outscored Orofino 7-6. Rehder made a 3-pointer while Wemhoff made 2 free throws and Farr scored the other 2 points.
Wemhoff wound up with 19 points to lead the scoring. She was 6 for 8 from the field and 7 for 7 at the line in the game. Schlader scored 16, Forsmann 13, Lockett and Rehder 5 each, Farr 4, Walsh 3 and Remacle 2.
Prairie had a 33-30 edge on the boards with Schlader having a double-double with 10 rebounds. Lockett added 8 boards.
Schlader had 6 steals while Forsmann had 4. Wemhoff had 5 assists.
Prairie was 24 for 52 from the field, 46%, and were 17 for 26 at the line, 65%. Orofino was 10 for 35 from the field, 29%, and 7 for 14 at the line, 50%.
There was no JV game.

Vs. C.V.
In another varsity only matchup the Lady Pirates had little trouble knocking off third place Clearwater Valley 51-15.
Prairie led just 9-3 at the end of the first quarter but got things rolling in the second as they outscored the Rams 18-5 to take a 27-8 halftime lead.
In the third quarter they rolled the Rams 20-2 to take a 47-10 lead into the fourth quarter and invoke the running clock mercy rule. The fourth quarter saw C.V. outscore Prairie 4-5.
Lockett had a big game with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals. Forsmann was also in double figures with 12 points. Remacle and Schlader scored 8 points each  with Wemhoff scoring 4, Olivia Klapprich 3 and Farr 1.
Lockett had three 3-pointers while Klapprich had 1.

Vs. Potlatch
The game against Potlatch on Saturday was also Senior Night as well as the final league game of the season.

Also shown are Josie Remacle and Tara Schlader.Seniors Lockett, Remacle, Forsmann, Rehder, Farr, Klapprich and Molly Johnson were honored before the game. Johnson, who missed the latter part of the season with a shoulder injury got to suit up one last time and even got on the floor for some limited playing time.
Seniors Klapprich, Lockett, Rehder, Remacle and Forsmann started the game and jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a basket each by Lockett and Remacle.
Potlatch then scored 7 straight points to take the lead and normal starters Wemhoff and Schlader came off the bench.
After a free throw by Lockett, Wemhoff scored to tie the game and scored again after a steal to give Prairie the lead.
Potlatch took back the lead with a 3-pointer and led again with a basket after Forsmann had scored to give Prairie the lead.
Another basket by Forsmann put Prairie ahead again and after Potlatch pulled within 1, Schlader scored to give Prairie a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Potlatch tied it with a 3-pointer but a lay-up by Schlader put Prairie back on top.
Potlatch tied it again with 2 free throws and that was the last time they were close. Prairie responded with a 10-0 run as they took a 41-28 lead by halftime.
Forsmann scored two baskets to start the run. Rehder made a free throw. Forsmann then stole the ball and scored. Schlader scored a basket and Lockett made a free throw for a 29-19 lead.
Potlatch managed to get within 8 at 31-23 but after Remacle scored a putback and Schlader scored after stealing the ensuing inbounds pass Prairie led by 12.
After 2 free throws by Potlatch, Prairie scored 6 straight for a 16 point lead at 41-25.  Lockett, Schlader and Forsmann each scored a basket in that run.
Prairie led 41-28 at the half after a Potlatch 3-pointer.
The two teams traded points through most of the third quarter with Potlatch once cutting the lead to 11 at 47-36. Prairie ended the quarter with a 6-point run to take a 57-38 lead into the fourth quarter. Schlader scored 4 of those 6 with Forsmann scoring the other 2.
The fourth quarter saw Prairie shooting free throws and making the occasional basket but it was mostly about letting the seniors get their final regular season time on the home floor.
All of the seniors were able to score except for Johnson who was only on the floor for about 15 seconds total due to her injury.
Schlader led the scoring with 18 points and almost had a triple double with 11 rebounds and 9 steals. Forsmann scored 16, Wemhoff 14, Lockett 12, Remacle 6, Rehder 3 and Klapprich and Farr 1 each.
Prairie had a 41-33 rebounding edge with Lockett adding 9 rebounds.
Rehder and Lockett each had 4 steals while Schlader had 4 assists. Forsmann and Klapprich added 3 assists each.
Prairie was 24 for 65 from the field, 37%, and 13 for 25 at the line, 52%. Potlatch was 15 for 44 from the field, 34%, and 14 for 18 at the line, 78%.
Again, there was no JV game.

At Kendrick
The game at Kendrick was a tale of two halves. In the first half Prairie couldn’t buy a basket as they missed their first 14 shots of the game and made just 3 of 31 attempts in the first half.
In the second half they finally were able to score and overcame deficits of 18 and 12 points to win despite holding the lead for only the final 17 seconds of the game.Kristin Wemhoff looks to pass at Kendrick.
Kendrick jumped out to a 0-9 lead in the game partly buoyed by it being their senior night plus ice-cold shooting by Prairie.
Remacle scored Prairie’s first point when she made the second of 2 free throws at the 1:51 mark of the first quarter. Schlader scored their first basket with 33 seconds left on a putback that made it 3-11 at the end of the quarter.
Kendrick scored the first 7 points of the second quarter for a 3-19 lead. A steal by Schlader led to a lay-up by Wemhoff for Prairie’s first points of the second quarter with 1:07 left in the half. Rehder added a lay-up on a feed from Klapprich with 6 seconds left but Prairie trailed 7-22 at the half.
Kendrick opened the second half scoring with a 3-pointer for a 7-25 lead.
A 3-pointer by Lockett 20 seconds later seemed to open the floodgates for the Prairie offense. Also their defense kicked it up a notch leading to some transition scoring. A steal by Forsmann led to a lay-up by Wemhoff. A steal by Schlader led to another lay-up by Wemhoff. Lockett converted a 3-point play. Wemhoff then scored 4 straight baskets, the last set up by a steal by Rehder as Prairie capped an 18-0 run to tie the score at 25 with 3:20 left in the third quarter.
Kendrick then reset and started raining in 3 pointers. They made 4 of them to finish off the third quarter and take a 25-37 lead into the fourth quarter. Kendrick made just 5 baskets in the third quarter, all from 3-point range.
Schlader made 2 free throws to open the fourth quarter and start another Prairie scoring run. It wasn’t without some drama though as Schlader, who had 2 fouls through 3 quarters, got called for a foul on what one of the 3 referees called a jump ball. She reacted in disbelief and got called for a technical foul which all of a sudden saddled her with 4 fouls. Kendrick missed both free throws and Prairie came back down the floor and Wemhoff scored a lay-up.
Schlader then picked up her fifth foul and exited the game with 7 minutes to play.
Lexi Schumacher was put in the game to put an extra shooter on the floor and responded with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 5. A free throw by Wemhoff and 2 free throws by Lockett and the margin was cut to 2 at 35-37 with 4:42 left to play.
Kendrick scored to break Prairie’s 10-0 run but Lockett responded with a basket.
Kendrick sank another 3 but a putback by Remacle and a drive to the hoop by Wemhoff cut the deficit to 1 at 41-42 with 1:30 to play.
Kendrick made 2 free throws but Forsmann then scored her only basket of the game, a 3-pointer with 51 seconds left to tie the game.
A steal by Schumacher set up a lay-up by Wemhoff with 17 seconds left to give Prairie their first lead of the game.
Wemhoff then stole the ball and was fouled but missed both free throws. Kendrick’s attempt at a game-winning 3-pointer missed and Prairie had a regular season ending victory.
Wemhoff wound up as the leading scorer with 21 points, all but 2 in the second half. Lockett scored 10, all in the second half. Schlader scored 4 while Remacle, Forsmann and Schumacher scored 3 each and Rehder scored 2.
Prairie had a 52-44 edge on the boards led by Remacle with 15. Schlader had 14 and Wemhoff had 10.
Schlader had 4 steals and Forsmann had 3 while Wemhoff had 2 assists.
Prairie was 18 for 61 from the field, 30%, and 7 for 20 at the line, 35%. They were 15 for 30 from the field in the second half, 50%. Kendrick was 16 for 52 from the field, 31%, and 5 for 16 at the line, 31%.
Prairie finishes their regular season with 7 straight wins and a 15-3 overall mark, 13-1 in league play. They are the #1 seed into District.
The JV team won 55-35 despite trailing after 1 quarter.
Prairie trailed 7-11 at the end of the first quarter as Lexi Schumacher and Isabella Walsh each scored 4 points and Alli Geis banked in a 3-pointer.
In the second quarter Kendrick put 5 new players on the floor and the Lady Pirates outscored them 20-0 to take a 33-14 halftime lead. Schumacher scored 15 points in the quarter as she made three 3’s and three 2’s from the field.
Walsh added 4 points and Kaylie Lockett scored 1.
Geis scored a putback to open the second half and put Prairie up by 19. Kendrick then scored 6 straight to get back within 13 but never got any closer. Walsh converted a 3-point play and after a Kendrick basket, Schumacher made a free throw and a basket and Walsh added a basket for a 41-22 lead.
Prairie led 41-24 after 3 quarters.
Prairie’s biggest lead of the game came with 25 seconds left after Sarah Lustig scored to make it 55-33. Kendrick scored a final basket to make the final margin 20.
Schumacher had 26 points to lead the JV’s in scoring. Walsh scored 13, Geis 7, Lockett 3 and Lustig, Riley Enneking and Ellie Nuxoll 2 each.
Prairie had 54-46 edge on the boards. Geis led the team with 14 rebounds while Walsh added 12.
Schumacher had 5 steals while Nuxoll had 4. Geis, Walsh, Lockett and Kadence Kalmbach each had 2 assists.
The JV’s were 23 for 74 from the field, 31%, and 5 for 15 at the line, 33%. Kendrick was 15 for 57 from the field, 26%, and 5 for 18 at the line, 28%.
The JV girls also played Lewiston on Wednesday, Jan. 26, and won 66-42.
