Lady Pirates clinch State Berth
The Prairie Lady Pirates punched their ticket to State with a pair of wins in the District Tournament. On Thursday, Feb. 3, they crushed Genesee 81-20 at Cottonwood. They then clinched a state berth with a 49-33 win over Troy on Saturday, Feb. 5, also at Cottonwood.
The Pirates will play Lapwai for the District Championship this Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the new Lewiston High School Gym.
Vs. Genesee
The opener against Genesee went about how you would expect a #1 vs. #8 game to go. Prairie held Genesee scoreless for over 10 minutes as they built a 33-0 lead. Kristin Wemhoff goes to the hoop against Genesee. Also shown is Lexi Schumacher.
After Genesee finally score at the 5:15 mark of the second quarter, Prairie scored another 15 straight points as they built a 50-8 halftime lead.
Delanie Lockett got the scoring started with a 3-pointer. Kristin Wemhoff followed with a basket. Laney Forsmann then made a pair of 3-pointers. Wemhoff scored a basket and a free throw. Prairie then closed out the quarter with a basket by Ali Rehder, a basket each by Wemhoff and Lockett and a putback by Tara Schlader at the buzzer for a 22-0 lead.
Wemhoff scored the first 11 points of the second quarter on 4 two-point baskets and one 3-pointer to make it 33-0.
Genesee’s first points of the game came on a 3-pointer by freshman Kendra Meyer.
Schlader then scored a basket. Olivia Klapprich scored. Schlader scored. Klapprich scored a basket and then a free throw. Schlader scored again and Forsmann capped off the 15-0 run with a basket for a 48-3 lead with 1”58 left in the half.
Genesee then scored 5 straight points before Rehder closed out the half with a basket from the wing.
Prairie kept up the onslaught in the third quarter as they outscored Genesee 28-6. Lockett scored 5 baskets in the quarter as Prairie had scoring runs of 6, 6 and 16 to take a 78-14 lead into the fourth quarter.
Subs got the bulk of the playing time in the running clock fourth quarter with Klapprich scoring a basket and Gracie Farr a free throw for Prairie’s only fourth quarter points. Genesee scored 6 in the quarter.
Wemhoff led the scoring with 18 points  and had 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 6 assists. Lockett scored 17 with 9 rebounds and 5 steals. Schlader scored 12 with 9 rebounds, 8 steals and 4 assists. Klapprich had her best scoring night as a varsity player with 9 points.  Forsmann scored 8, Lexi Schumacher 5, Josie Remacle and Rehder scored 4 each. Farr scored 3 and Isabella Walsh scored 1.
Prairie dominated the boards 45-24.
The Pirates had just 8 turnovers while forcing 34.
Prairie was 36 for 75 from the field, 48%, and 4 for 15 at the line, 27%. Genesee was 4 for 21 from the field, 19%, and 9 for 21 at the line, 43%.

Vs. Troy
The game against Troy was a lot more competitive as Troy led twice in the first quarter and it was tied at 11 with 2:36 left in the quarter. Prairie then went on a 13-0 run and Troy never got closer than 7 the rest of the way.
TTara Schlader shoots for 2 of her game-high 19 points against Troy. At right is Laney Forsmann.roy scored first then Lockett made a free throw and Schlader scored inside for a 3-2 lead. Troy answered with 23 free throws to take back the lead.
A steal by Schlader led to a basket. Lockett made 2 free throws and Schlader added a putback for a 9-4 lead.
Troy got a 3 from Halee Bohman. Schlader answered with a lay-up on an inbounds play then Troy got a basket each from Bohman and Isabelle Raasch to tie the game at 11.
A putback by Lockett, who then stole the ball which led to a hook shot by Schlader. A steal by Schlader led to a free throw by Lockett and then Wemhoff stole the ball and scored to make it 18-11 at the end of the quarter.
Two baskets by Schlader to open the second quarter and a steal and drive by Wemhoff made it 24-11.
Troy then scored 6 straight to cut the lead down to 7 with 2:34 left in the half, 24-17.
Two free throws by Lockett and a perimeter shot by Wemhoff made it 28-17 at the break.
Prairie then scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a 21-point lead. A Lockett free throw was followed by baskets by Schlader and Remacle. Remacle then converted a 3-point play and Schlader added another basket for a 38-17 lead.
Troy scored 3 straight points then Lockett scored a pair of basket, the second after a steal. Remacle scored a lay-up on an inbounds feed from Klapprich to make it 44-19. A Troy basket made it 44-21 at the end of 3 quarters.
Troy forced 10 turnovers in the fourth quarter but weren’t able to make much headway into the deficit until the final 3 minutes when they scored the final 8 points of the game to cut the final margin to 16.
Schlader wound up with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Lockett scored 13, Wemhoff 8, Remacle 7 and Klapprich 2.
Prairie had a 39-36 edge on the boards.
Wemhoff had 7 steals and 6 assists while Schlader had 5 steals and Lockett 4 steals.
Prairie was 19 for 49 from the field, 39%, and 12 of 19 at the line, 63%. Troy was 12 for 49 from the field, 24%, and 8 for 13 at the line, 62%.
Prairie takes a 17-3 record into the District Championship game.
