Lady Pirates finish 2nd at District
The Prairie Lady Pirates ran into an inspired Lapwai team and fell 51-67 in the District Championship game Thursday, Feb. 10 at the new Lewiston High School gym.
Lapwai came out firing from 3-point range, hitting 5 of them in the first quarter, 3 of them by senior Grace Sobotta who had scored just 8 points combined in the two regular season games.
A couple of turnovers led to Prairie being down 0-6 before Josie Remacle scored to put them on the board. Laney Forsmann added a putback to make it 4-6.
Lapwai answered with another 3 which was followed by a lay-up by Delanie Lockett. Another Lapwai 3 was followed by a lay-up by Kristin Wemhoff. Prairie was scoring but losing ground trading 2’s for 3’s.

They had another 8 turnovers in the second quarter and Lapwai added three more 3-pointers as they built their lead to 23-37 at the half.
Prairie got a basket by Wemhoff to open the second half but that 12 point deficit was as close as they got. They matched that later in the quarter after Tara Schlader and Forsmann each scored a basket to make it 35-47.  Lapwai then scored 4 straight points to take a 35-51 lead into the fourth quarter.
Lapwai had a 5-10 start to the fourth quarter to take their biggest lead at 40-61 with 3:48 left. Prairie was able to cut that down some but got no closer than the final margin of 16 points.
