Lady Pirates win 1 of 2
The Prairie Lady Pirates split their first two games of the season. On Wednesday, March 23, they lost their season and league opening game 3-4 to Clearwater Valley at Kooskia. On Monday, March 28 they outlasted Garfield-Palouse 12-11 at Lewiston.
Prairie faced a touch pitcher at C.V. and wound up losing 3-4 in their season opener.
In the first 3 innings Prairie musted just 4 baserunners against C.V. while striking out 8 times. Riley Enneking and Ember Martin each had a single while Mackenzie Key reached on catcher’s interference and Delanie Lockett was hit by a pitch.

In the fourth inning Prairie scored all 3 of their runs on just 1 hit. Enneking was hit by a pitch leading off. Gracie Farr was also hit by a pitch. A wild pitch moved Enneking to third and then Farr stole second as she held at first on the wild pitch. Another wild pitch scored Enneking and moved Farr to third.
Laney Forsmann and Kaylie Lockett both walked to load the bases. Ember Martin dropped a flare behind second for a base hit that scored Farr. Delanie Lockett forced Forsmann out at the plate. Key then grounded to second as Kaylie Lockett scored to make it 3-0.
C.V. got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. A single, walk, single, error and single led to 2 runs scored as the Rams closed the score to 3-2.
Prairie’s only baserunners in the final 3 innings were on a double to right center by Farr in the fifth and a walk by Josie Remacle in the seventh.
C.V. took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with 2 more runs. After a strikeout, Key walked the next 2 hitters. A groundout to first moved the runners to second and third. A 2 run single gave C.V. the lead and the win.
Prairie had 4 hits in the game. Martin had 2 singles while Farr had a double and Enneking had a single. Prairie struck out 14 times.
Key gave up 4 runs on 8 hits with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The game against Garfield-Palouse at Lewiston was anything but a clean game with lots of walks and errors.
Gar-Pal was the home team for the game and Prairie scored 3 runs in the top of the first without benefit of a hit. Delanie Lockett, Schlader, Remacle, Enneking and Farr all were walked. Enneking and Farr picked up an RBI each on a bases loaded walk and Remacle scored the third run on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the first Gar-Pal scored 2 runs, also without benefit of a hit thanks to 3 Pirate errors.
In the second Prairie added 3 more runs, this time with a couple of hits added into to 3 walks. Martin walked to lead off the inning, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch. Key drew a walk and stole second. Schlader followed with the first hit of the game, an RBI double to center. Remacle walked again and Enneking singled to load the bases. Farr grounded to short for a force at second but Schlader was able to score making it 6-3.
4 hits, a walk and 2 more errors allowed Gar-Pal to take their first lead in the bottom of the second as they plated 5 runs for a 6-7 lead.
Prairie tied it in the third as Kaylie Lockett led off with a walk and scored on Schlader’s 2-out single to right. Prairie wound up leaving the bases loaded in the inning.
Key got the side out in order in the bottom of the third.
Prairie took back the lead with a 3-run fourth inning. Farr led off with a walk and stole second. Kaylie Lockett walked after an out. Martin hit into a fielder’s choice as Gar-Pal tried to get Farr at the plate and didn’t. Kaylie Lockett advanced to third on the play. Delanie Lockett hit a sacrifice fly to right to score her sister. Key then singled to left to score Martin for a 10-7 lead.
Key pitched around a 1-out walk in the bottom of the fourth as she again held Gar-Pal scoreless.
Enneking led off the fifth with a single but was stranded at third.
An error, 3 singles and a walk enabled Gar-Pal to score 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth and cut Prairie’s lead to 10-9.
Neither team scored in the 6^th.
In the top of the seventh Prairie added some insurance runs. Schlader led off with a single to right and stole second. After an out Enneking was hit by a pitch. Farr singled home Schlader then Lexi Schumacher was put in to run. Amelia Uhlenkott pinch-hit for Forsmann and hit into a fielder’s choice. Enneking was put out at home but in an attempt to get another out, Schumacher scored to make it 12-9.
In the bottom of the seventh, a walk and an error led to a run. After 2 outs, another error led to a second run. Gar-Pal’s #3 hitter then hit a long fly ball to center that looked like it would at least tie the game but Forsmann was able to run it down and catch the ball to end the game.
Prairie had 7 hits led by Schlader who had a double and 2 singles and 2 RBI. Enneking had a pair of singles and an RBI. Farr had a single and 2 RBI. Key had a single and an RBI. Delanie Lockett and Martin each had an RBI.
Key pitched all 7 innings and allowed 11 runs on 8 hits with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts.
