| This is the week of the young child The Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children (Idaho AEYC) celebrates Week of the Young Child April 2 – 8 with free family-friendly activities happening in communities across Idaho. As part of the national Week of the Young Child celebrated across the country, Idaho is honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives. “All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life, and Idaho has a great opportunity to do our part to help young children,” said Beth Oppenheimer, Executive Director of Idaho AEYC. “Week of the Young Child is a time for Idaho to recognize that early years are learning years for all young children.” As part of the celebrations, Governor Brad Little will proclaim April 2 – 8 the Week of the Young Child in Idaho on April 6th at 10 a.m. at the Idaho State Capitol. So far, 19 municipalities across the state will also proclaim April 2 – 8 The Week of the Young Child, while highlighting programming and early learning opportunities through local libraries, Head Start programs, and Early Learning Collaboratives in their communities. Week of the Young Child is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country, including child care and Head Start programs, preschools, and elementary schools, to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children. Activities during the week will highlight daily themes such as: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Working Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday. In addition to Week of the Young Child, Idaho AEYC will host the Celebration of the Young Child event on April 16, 2022 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Julia Davis Park. Families will have the opportunity to engage in fun, child-friendly activities and connect with community resources. There will be food trucks, music performances, and free early learning books and activities all taking place at the Gene Harris Bandshell. Idaho AEYC has hundreds of early childhood professionals working together to improve professional practice and working conditions in early childhood education, while building public support for high-quality early childhood education programs. Young children and their families depend on high-quality education and care, which help children get a great start and bring lasting benefits to Idaho. Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy, and to celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children.
