Lady Pirates win 2 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 2 of their 3 games this past week. On Wednesday, May 4, they swept a doubleheader on Senior Night against Lapwai, 22-1 and 17-2. On Thursday, May 5, they traveled to C.V. and got beat 2-16 to end their regular season.
Game 1 vs. Lapwai
In the opening game against Lapwai the Pirates scored 16 runs in the first inning as the team sent 22 hitters to the plate. Mackenzie Key pitched both games against Lapwai last Wednesday, allowing 3 runs and 6 hits total over 7 innings of pitching.
Prairie had just 6 hits in the inning as free passes and errors helped them tremendously.
Mackenzie Key reached on an error with 1 out and stole second. She went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Tara Schlader’s looping single to left. Schlader stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Josie Remacle walked. A wild pitch scored Schlader and moved Remacle to second. Remacle moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch. Gracie Farr reached on an error. She moved around the bases and scored on pitches that got past the catcher. Riley Enneking walked and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. Laney Forsmann walked and stole second. Both scored on Kaylie Lockett’s single to right field. After a second out Delanie Lockett walked and Key singled home Kaylie Lockett. Schlader doubled to score both Delanie Lockett and Key. Schlader moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when the catcher made a throwing error on the play. Remacle walked. Farr was hit by a pitch and Enneking walked to load the bases. Forsmann was hit by a pitch to score Tamden Pecarovich, who was courtesy running for Remacle. Kaylie Lockett singled home Farr with Enneking scoring on an error on the play. Ember Martin walked to reload the bases. Forsmann scored on a wild pitch and Delanie Lockett walked to again load the bases. Key doubled home both Kaylie Lockett and Martin for a 16-0 lead.
Key pitched for the Pirates and gave up 2 hits and a run in the bottom of the first. That turned out to be Lapwai’s only run of the game.
Prairie added 5 more runs in the second inning. Farr was hit by a pitch leading off and Enneking beat out an infield hit. Forsmann singled to load the bases. Kaylie Lockett was hit by a pitch, scoring Farr. Enneking wound up scoring on an error and after 2 outs, Key doubled home both Forsmann and Kaylie Lockett. Key went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Schlader’s infield single to make it 21-1.
Key gave up a 2-out walk in the bottom of the second then induced a forceout to get out of the inning.
Prairie sent 6 straight pinch-hitters to the plate in the top of the third. After 2 outs, Ellie Nuxoll walked. Kadence Kalmback also walked and Nuxoll wound up scoring on an error to make it 22-1.
Key got out of the bottom of the third with 3 straight ground ball outs to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule.
Prairie had 10 hits in the game. Key had 2 doubles and a single and 5 RBI. Schlader had a double and 2 singles and 3 RBI. Kaylie Lockett had 2 singles and 4 RBI. Forsmann had a single and an RBI and Enneking had a single.
Key gave up 1 run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout in 3 innings.

Game 2 vs. Lapwai
In the second game Lapwai had their only lead of the day in the first inning as their leadoff hitter reached on an error and scored on a 1 out single.
Prairie tied it in the bottom of the first. Delanie Lockett was hit by a pitch leading off. She stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After Key walked, Lockett scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly to center by Schlader.
In the second inning Lapwai got a 1-out single but Remacle threw her out trying to steal and Key then got out of the inning with a groundout.
Prairie took the lead in the bottom of the second. Enneking was hit by a pitch leading off the inning. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third. A throwing error by the catcher on the play at third scored her. Forsmann walked and stole second. Kaylie Lockett reached on an error and a wild pitch advanced both runners. Martin grounded out but Forsmann scored on the play. Delanie Lockett singled home her sister. Key walked and Schlader singled to left to score Delanie Lockett and make it 5-1.
Key gave up an unearned run in the top of the third on a 2-out rally. With 2 outs, an error followed by 2 singles loaded the bases. Another error scored the run to make it 5-2.
Prairie added 3 in the bottom of the third. Enneking led off with an infield hit and stole second. She scored on a double to center by Forsmann. Kaylie Lockett walked and the baserunners executed a double steal. Martin reached on an error with Forsmann scoring. A groundout by Delanie Lockett scored her sister to make it 8-2.
Key set the side down in order in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth Prairie needed 9 runs to end the game early on the 15-run rule. The inning started with Remacle reaching on an error. Farr singled down to third base line. Enneking singled to left to score Remacle. Farr scored on a wild pitch. Forsmann walked. Amelia Uhlenkott pinch hit and struck out on a ball in the dirt but Enneking was able to score on the throw to first. Martin then looped a ball into left for a single that scored Forsmann. Delanie Lockett walked as did Key. Martin scored on an error. A single by Schlader scored Delanie Lockett. Key then scored on an error. Remacle walked and then Schlader scored on another error. After a second out, Enneking and Forsmann walked to load the bases. Kaylie Lockett then singled to score Remacle with the game-ending run.
Key gave up 2 runs, both unearned, on 4 hits with no walks and 2 strikeouts.
Prairie had 9 hits. Schlader had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Enneking had 2 singles and 1 RBI. Forsmann had a double and an RBI. Martin had a single and 3 RBI. Delanie Lockett had a single and 2 RBI. Kaylie Lockett had a single and an RBI. Farr had a single.

Vs. C.V.
The game against C.V. was moved to Kooskia due to wet field conditions at Cottonwood.
The Rams scored 4 runs in the first and 1 each in the second and third for a 0-6 lead.
Prairie scored 2 in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 2-6 but then gave up 10 in the top of the fifth. When they were unable to score in the bottom of the fifth, the game ended on the 10-run mercy rule.
Prairie had just 3 hits in the game, a single each by Delanie Lockett, Schlader and Enneking.
Key pitched all 5 innings allowing 16 runs on 20 hits.
Prairie ends their regular season with an 8-6 record in league play, 9-9 overall.
The finished as the #4 seed into district and were to play Genesee Tuesday, May 10 at Kendrick in a single elimination game. If they won that game they would play at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Genesee on Wednesday, May 11 with 3 of the 4 remaining teams advancing to State.
