Cummings is new St. John Bosco Academy principal
St. John Bosco Academy announces the new principal hired this summer. Mr. Brian Cummings from Lewiston Idaho was picked to take the helm of this private Catholic School in Cottonwood.
Mr. Cummings describes his past as, "I am a cradle Catholic who grew up in Albuquerque, NM where I attended public school until high school when I entered St. Pius X High School.  After high school I went to Loyola-Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA and earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications.  Following graduation I worked with homeless children for a year in Seattle, WA through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and then spent the next two years teaching Theology to high school sophomores and juniors at my alma mater in New Mexico." He married his wife Rebecca after returning to Seattle where they started their family.  To support the family he became a Seattle Firefighter, and spent 25 years on the frontline, in the Fire Marshal's office, working for the Training Division, and retired as a Captain.
Mr. Cummings and his family moved to Idaho from Washington as a "flight out of Egypt" , and he commuted from Lewiston to Seattle for the last 8 months of his firefighting career.  While searching for a Catholic school for their children, Mr. Cummings found St. John Bosco Academy and learned of their open position  for Dean of Students. Mr. Cummings was hired for that position and spent last year working at St. John Bosco Academy under Mr. Hickel's mentorship. "I hoped to continue as the high school Dean of Students, but when Mr. Hickel left and, after much prayer and encouragement, I humbly applied to be the principal." he said.
"I have enjoyed teaching since I began working at St. Pius X in New Mexico.  I continued to teach in the fire department throughout my career, and I became involved working with the youth at the various Catholic parishes we attended. I've also coached soccer and track over the years, and really have a heart for kids.  I think education is such a powerful tool that can be used for good or evil, and my love of our Catholic faith continues to grow the more I learn.  My hope is that educating kids in the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life will begin to take back the culture and grow the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth!" states Mr. Cummings.
Mr. Cummings brings his family with him to St. John Bosco and would like to introduce you to his wife of 26 years - Rebecca - the one through whom I most experience God's hand and his children:
