Lady Pirates fall in 5 games to Logos
The Prairie Lady Pirates lost a 5-set league match to Logos last Thursday, Sept. 1 at Cottonwood. Scores were 15-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-23, 11-15.
Prairie struggled against the Knights in the first two games as they fell behind 0-4 in the opener and trailed throughout on the way to a 10-point loss. Kristin Wemhoff leaps high for a spike against Logos.
The second game started better as Tara Schlader scored a kill to open the game and Lexi Schumacher served 2 aces for a 3-0 lead.
Logos came back to take a 6-7 lead. Kristin Wemhoff tied it with a back row kill then Logos took the lead for good and eventually won by 9.
It looked like it might be a 3-game sweep when Prairie fell behind 3-8 and 5-10 in the third game.
A kill by Alli Geis and 4 aces by Julia Rehder wiped out the deficit as the score was tied at 10-10.
Prairie took their first lead since it was 1-0 at 14-13 on an ace by Schumacher.
The lead changed hands a couple time until a free ball kill by Rehder tied it and then Rehder scored another kill for an 18-17 lead. Riley Enneking added 2 aces to make it 20-17.
Prairie never trailed again in the game although Logos got within 1 at 23-22. At that point the Knights missed a serve and Schumacher followed with an ace for the game winner.
The fourth game saw Prairie lead at 8-7 after two aces by Geis and again at 10-9 after an ace by Schumacher. Otherwise they trailed until Schlader went to the service line after Wemhoff scored a sideout kill to make it 11-13.
Enneking scored a kill followed by 2 aces by Schlader that put Prairie ahead 14-13. A kill by Rehder was followed by 3 more acres as Schlader completed a 7-point service run for an 18-13 Pirate lead.
The Pirates were able to hold off the Knights and got to 24-20 on a missed Logos serve. Logos fought off 3 game point chances before a kill by Schlader scored the game-winner.
In the deciding fifth game Logos held the lead much of the game. Prairie led at 2-1 after a kill by Schumacher but didn’t lead again until Schlader scored a kill to make it 8-7.
After trading sideouts, Schlader scored a kill to make it 10-8. A net violation scored a sideout and then a Logos serve that Prairie thought was out but was called in, tied the game at 10-10.  Logos added 3 more serving points for a 10-12 lead. Schlader scored a sideout kill but then missed a serve and Logos was able to serve out the match.
Schlader had 15 kills, 2 assists and 6 aces in the match. Rehder had 13 kills, 2 assists and 5 aces. Wemhoff had 8 kills, 4 assists and 2 aces. Geis had 7 kills including 2 blocks and 4 aces. Schumacher had 3 kills, 33 assists and 6 aces. Enneking had 3 kills, 3 assists and 3 aces. Taylor Riener had 2 kills and 2 assists.
Prairie is now 2-1 in best of 5 matches and 1-1 in league play.
The JV team won all three of their games against Logos and you couldn’t find two games much different than the final two as they won 25-23, 32-30 and 15-0.
In the opener Logos scored the first point then Prairie took the lead with a 6-0 run as Kaylie Lockett served 4 aces and Kylie Schumacher added a kill.
Logos got back within 2 at 7-5 then Sydney Shears served 4 straight points for a 12-5 lead. She had 2 aces and Ashlyn North added a kill.
Logos was able to cut into the lead and finally tied the score at 20.
A kill by North put Prairie back on top then she served an ace and Tamden Pecarovich added a free-ball winner to make it 23-20.
A missed serve put Prairie at game point but Logos twice fought it off to pull within 24-23 before Pecarovich scored the game winning kill.
Pecarovich served 2 aces to help Prairie take a 3-0 lead in the second game.
Logos came back to take a 10-11 lead before Kylie Schumacher scored a sideout kill.
Sierra Oliver then served Prairie to a 17-11 lead with 2 aces plus kills by Hailey Hanson and Ember Martin.
After 2 aces by Martin, Prairie led 21-13 and it looked like they had the game in hand.
Logos came roaring back to cut the lead to 23-20. A free ball kill by Martin put Prairie at match point at 24-20.
After a missed served and 4 straight Logos points, the Knights had a game point opportunity at 24-25.
A kill by Schumacher staved off that game point and a kill by Martin staved off one at 25-26.
An ace by Oliver gave Prairie another match point chance. Logos answered with 2 straight points for what turned out to be their final game point chance at 27-28.
Prairie had match point chances at 29-28 after an ace by Pecarovich and at 30-29 after a kill by Pecarovich.
Each team then missed a serve to give Prairie one more match point chance at 31-20 and Schumacher came through with the match-winning kill.
Logos was obviously deflated in the third game as Lockett scored a sideout kill to open the game and then Pecarovich served 14 straight points for a shutout win. She had 7 aces while Schumacher and Lockett each had 3 kills and Shears scored the other kill.
