Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle

Redneck Review!
No. 384 - 9/4/2022
After several efforts in preceding RNR's to pass along to my family, friends, and readers very pertinent and critical information concerning the precarious condition of our economy, and its impact on the stock market, our money system, and investment strategies for the weeks and months and years to come, two articles ago opened with the statement "Back to the present!"
That is the intent today, to consider the  various items in the news today and ask about the promise or threat they hold for average Americans. To date we have considered the question of election integrity, and the controversy which surrounds the 2020 election. Last week the topic was abortion and the reaction nation wide to the supreme court decision reversing the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision which at that time REQUIRED that every state provide abortion services. It was noted that the recent decision does not outlaw abortions, only removes the requirement that every state must provide for them. So one has to be puzzled by the violent reaction of pro-abort supporters when abortions can still be performed, but only in the states which allow them, and amazingly, supported by our president who has stated that he is going to provide transportation at tax payer's expense for people in need to get to those states!
And added at the time was the current glee of that same pro-abort group that a pill is now available that allows a mother desiring to remove the nuisance fetus by simply downing a pill!
Much, much more could be said about this ugly procedure, but before leaving it for now, why not consider the following thoughts on this matter. 1) Research tells us that over 60 million abortions have been legally performed in the U.S. since 1973. Compare that to our current national population around 330 million today means that roughly 1 of every 6 pregnancies have ended in abortion during that time. To let that sink in, the next time you are in a group, count each person one at a time, and note that every 6th person would not be here, aborted prior to birth if the same ratio was applied to that group! 2)Or do the math and you will find that 60+ million abortions since 1973, 49 years, means that about 3,350 abortions per day have been legal in this country during that time, or per hour, almost 140 tiny little living babes in the womb have been snuffed out, some methods being cruel and very painful!  Enough! Not for me!
But what other news does one see in the press and on TV?  Quite prominent is the continuing flood of illegal immigrants crossing our southern border, numbering over 2 million in 2021, and threatening to increase that this year. Evidence is convincing that many are felons, and drug dealers, fentanyl considered the number 1 drug killer of adults this past year, about 71,000, is coming across our border from Mexico. And crime in sanctuary cities is up drastically the last couple of years, and is almost out of control in some of those American cities.Does a common sense person not have to ask?  Would the average family or home owner not be reluctant to allow any untested and unvetted individual to simply come through his front door and expect to live in your home? At your expense even?  So is it any different allowing huge groups to flood into our country?   Would it not make more sense to do a bit of checking first?  Maybe to tell who are in genuine need, and who are simply going to cause trouble and increase crime?
What about inflation?  Is the current near 10% inflation figure not just another tax on all citizens, hitting the hardest those with the smallest incomes?  Is doubled fuel prices, and cost increases at the grocery store not making life more difficult? At least for the average working family?
And despite constant denials from our current administration, do the orders stopping oil pipe line construction, or permits to drill on public land not really impacting those current fuel prices?
And what about the huge spending bills passed already and proposed for  the future not part of the inflation problem haunting us!  Is there any end to this near insanity we see in the news?
