Cross Country team competes at Inland Empire Meet
The Prairie Cross Country team was at the Inland Empire Meet Saturday, Oct. 1 at the LCSC course in the Lewiston Orchards.
This meet drew teams from all over the state as it will be the site of the State Meet this year.
The Prairie High School runners competed in the Jr. Varsity races while the Grangeville runners competing with Prairie, for the most part, ran in the varsity races.
In the high school girls junior varsity race Natalie Goeckner was the top finisher in 46th place with a time of 25:41. Elizabeth Severns was 50th in 26:02. Callie Remacle was 57th in 27:11. Alaina Lustig was 68th in 29:37. One Grangeville runner ran in the JV race as Breanna Spencer was 73rd in 31:04. That gave Prairie enough runners to compete as a team and they finished in 7th out of 9 teams. There were 80 runners in the girls JV race.
In the high school boys JV race Ben Secrest was the top finisher in 54 with a time of 19:02. Jackson Enneking was 76th in 19:56. Morgan Poxleitner was 134th in 22:15 and Landon Riener was 155th in 25:38. Parker Farmer of Grangeville ran in the JV race finishing 111th in 21:17. That gave Prairie 5 runners, enough for a team score as they finished 15th out of 17 teams. There were 161 runners in the boys JV race.
The most successful group of the day for Prairie were the junior high girls who finished 3rd as a team behind just Lewiston and Lincoln of Clarkston.
Evelyn Gehring was Prairie’s top finisher in 13th with a time of 11:17. She barely nosed out Aubree Geis at the finish as Geis was 14th, also with a time of 11:17. Avery Kehler was 28th in 11:47. Olivia Uhlenkott was 33rd in 12:36 and Alaina Decaria was 54th in 15:35. There were 62 runners in the race.
Prairie had only 3 runners in the junior high boys race with Matthew Jones finishing 26th in 10:34. Kade Hanson was 41st in 11:43 and Gabe Decaria was 67th in 14:03. There were 83 runners in the race.
The Grangeville boys running as Prairie in the varsity race finished in 26th place out of 30 teams.
Ryan Detwiler was the top finished in 110th place  out of 223 runners with a time of 17:46. AJ Rose was 138th in 18:13. Simeon Sanchez was 139th in 18:14. Gabe Bybee was 192nd in 20:07. Ruben Sanchez was 194th in 20:27 and Ayden Arnett was 208th in 21:40.
Grangeville had just 2 runners in the girls varsity race. Kylie Rasmussen was 134th out of 182 runners in 22:30 and Kacee Evans was 174th in 25:59.
Prairie’s next action will be a in a meet just added to their schedule as they will be at the CV-Kamiah Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the Kamiah football-track complex. Without this added meet there would have been over two weeks between their final regular season meet and the District meet.
