Lady Pirates swept at Kendrick
The Prairie Lady Pirates had a light schedule this past week after a busy one the week before. Their only match was a non-league match at Kendrick Monday, Oct. 3 where they lost 3 close games to the White Pine League Division 2 leading Tigers 20-25, 26-28, 22-25. They took a 5-2 lead in the opening game as Lexi Schumacher and Tara Schlader each served and ace while Kylie Schumacher scored a kill and a block.
They built their lead to 12-6 after Julia Rehder served an ace.
They led 15-8 after a kill by Kylie Schumacher and then Kendrick started cutting into the lead.
The Tigers cut the lead down to 17-15 then there were 5 straight sideouts with a Kendrick missing a serve to give Prairie a 20-17 lead.
Prairie then missed a serve and never scored another point. Kendrick’s first lead of the game came when they led 20-21.
The second game was a close battle all the way. Kendrick had an early lead at 7-10 only to see Prairie come back and take their own 3-point lead at 17-14 after 2 aces by Schlader.
Prairie’s biggest lead came after Kristin Wemhoff served an ace for a 19-15 lead. Kendrick then scored 4 straight points to tie.
Kendrick eventually led 23-24 but a tip by Schlader evened the score. Kendrick had another chance at game point at 24-25 that Prairie fought off when Wemhoff dug a serve for a point. At 25-26 Rehder scored a kill to again tie it. Prairie couldn’t fight off the last game point though as Kendrick pulled out the win.
Lexi Schumacher served 2 aces to start the third game and 2 kills by Kylie Schumacher and a second touch kill by Lexi Schumacher gave Prairie a 5-1 lead.
Kendrick came right back to tie it at 6-6 and the game stayed close until the end.
Kendrick took the lead for good at 19-20 and got to 21-24. Alli Geis held off match point for one more serve by scoring on a block before Kendrick scored the game-winner.
For the match Schlader had 11 kills, 1 assist and 4 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 11 kills, including a block. Geis had 9 kills, including a block, and 1 ace. Rehder had 4 kills, 2 assists and 3 aces. Wemhoff had 4 kills, 3 assists and 1 ace. Lexi Schumacher had 2 kills, 29 assists and 5 aces. Riley Enneking had 1 kill and 4 assists.
Prairie is now 5-9 on the season. They are 3-7 in league play.
The JV team had a much better night as they won both their games, 25-23 and 25-19.
Prairie took a 3-1 lead in the opener on an a kill and then an ace by Tamden Pecarovich and a kill by Sydney Shears.
Kendrick then scored 5 straight points and Prairie didn’t lead again until Ashlyn North served an ace for an 11-10 lead.
There were several sideouts until Kendrick scored 6 straight to take a 15-19 lead. They then led 16-22 before Prairie started to rally.
Ellie Nuxoll scored a couple of kills to cut the lead to 19-22. After a pair of sideouts, North served 3 straight aces to tie the score. Pecarovich then scored a point on a free ball before North served another ace to win the game.
In the second game the score was tied at 6-6 when Hailey Hanson scored a kill for a sideout. Sierra Oliver then served 4 straight points for an 11-6 lead. She had an ace while Ember Martin, Kylie Schumacher and Shears each added a kill.
Kendrick got within 11-9 before Schumacher scored 2 straight kills. Shears served an ace and Pecarovich scored a kill for a 15-8 lead.
Kendrick cut the lead to 16-12 but Prairie pushed the lead back to 7 at 19-12 as Schumacher scored a kill and then served an ace and Hanson added a kill.
Kendrick got back within 19-15 then Pecarovich scored a sideout then served Prairie to a 23-15 lead with Aubree Rehder scoring a kill followed by 2 aces by Pecarovich.
After a pair of points by Kendrick, Rehder scored a kill to get to match point at 24-17.
Kendrick fought off 2 match points before Martin scored on a dig to end it.
The C team lost their 2 games.
