Lady Patriots swept at Deary
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots had just one match this past week as they traveled to Deary and got swept in a league match 19-25, 10-25, 21-25.
SJB took a 2-0 lead in the opener on an ace by Noelle Chmelik and a kill by Sarah Waters but Deary then scored 10 of the next 11 points to take the lead.
SJB was able to rally back and actually took back the lead at 17-16 after a kill each by Chmelik, Waters and Raylie Warren. A missed serve then tied it and Deary took back the lead.
SJB was able to tie it at 18 on a kill by Waters and a at 19 on a kill by Warren but Deary then scored the final 6 points of the game.
The second game was totally dominated by Deary as the Patriots fell behind 0-3, 2-7, 3-10, 5-18 and 6-20.
They had a small rally where they score 4 of the next 5 points to get to 10-21 before Deary scored the final 4 of the game.
In the third game SJB took leads of 3-0 and 6-1. They had an ace by Chmelik and a kill each by Maleah Cummings and Waters for the 3-0 lead and then a kill each by Waters, Chmelik and Julia Wassmuth as they got to 6-1.
Deary then chipped away and got the lead down to 1 at 8-7 before missing a serve. Serinah Palmer scored a kill that ended a very long volley that made it 10-7.
A kill each by Chmelik and Cummings gave SJB a 12-8 lead.
Deary then pretty much took over as they tied it 14-14 before a kill by Waters gave the Patriots a brief 15-14 lead. Deary then scored the next 4 points for a 15-18 lead.
A kill each by Wassmuth and Warren cut the lead to 17-18 but Deary then scored 3 straight.
The Patriots got no closer than 2 at 20-22 after that as Deary closed out the match.
Waters had 19 kills, 2 assists and an ace for the Patriots. Chmelik had 5 kills, 13 assists and 4 aces. Warren had 5 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Palmer had 3 kills, 3 assists and 2 aces. Cummings had 3 kills and 1 assist. Wassmuth had 2 kills and 10 assists.
St. John Bosco is now 5-7 overall and 4-5 in league play.
They host Nezperce on Thursday, Oct. 6. That will also be senior night for their lone senior, Makayla Rose. They have also added a tri-match at Timberline on Saturday, Oct. 8 where they will play the Spartans at 1:30 and Meadows Valley at 3 p.m.
