Lady Pirates win 1 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 1 of 3 matches this past week. On Tuesday, Oct. 4, they hosted Lapwai and won in a sweep 25-19, 25-15, 25-21. On Thursday, Oct. 6 they hosted Genesee on Senior Night and got swept 15-25, 20-25, 20-25. Finally on Monday, Oct. 10 they traveled to Troy and again got swept 20-25, 21-25, 8-25.
Vs. Lapwai
The Lapwai game was also the Dig Blue for Derma Fundraiser which is Taylor Riener’s senior project. See the photo of both teams for more information on how that project went. Julia Rehder had a great serving night against Lapwai with 11 aces against the Wildcats.
The first game did not start well for Prairie as they fell behind 0-4 and 2-8. After a Prairie timeout, Lapwai missed a serve and Kristin Wemhoff served an ace and Alli Geis scored a kill to get Prairie back into the game.
Prairie took their first lead of the game after a kill be Geis sent Julia Rehder to the service line. Rehder served 3 straight aces for an 11-10 lead. Tara Schlader scored a kill and Rehder added another ace to make it 13-10 before Lapwai could side out.
Lapwai came back to tie it at 18-18 before they missed another serve. Prairie missed a sever as well then Geis scored a kill to put Rehder back on the service line. Rehder proceeded to serve out the game. She had 2 aces then Lapwai called a timeout. Schlader then scored a pair of kills and Rehder finished off the game with another ace.
In the second game Prairie took the lead after a missed Lapwai serve and an ace by Schlader. Riener scored 2 kills to make it 5-2. After a pair of sideouts, Wemhoff served 4 straight aces and Geis added a kill for an 11-3 lead.
Lapwai got back within 4 before missing a serve to make it 13-8. Rehder then extended her serving prowess from the first game. After a kill by Geis she served 5 straight aces for a 19-8 lead.
Prairie then played pretty much even with Lapwai the rest of the game to win by 10 with Schlader scoring the game winning kill.
In the third game It was Wemhoff that served Prairie into the lead. She scored a back row kill for a game-tying sideout then served 5 straight points. She had 3 aces while Lexi Schumacher and Geis each added a kill for a 7-2 lead.
Lapwai rallied back within 1 at 12-11 before missing a serve. An ace by Schumacher and a kill by Schlader pushed the lead back to 4 at 15-11.
Prairie led by 6 at 20-14 only to see Lapwai come back and cut the lead to 2 at 21-19. A Prairie timeout led to a missed Lapwai serve. Schlader and Riener each scored a kill to get to match point. Lapwai fought off two match points before Schlader scored the match-winning kill.
For the match Schlader had 10 kills, 3 assists and 1 ace. Geis had 10 kills and 1 ace. Riener had 8 kills, including 2 blocks and 1 assist. Wemhoff had 6 kills and 8 aces. Riley Enneking had 2 kills, 3 assists and 2 aces. Schumacher had 3 kills, 23 assists and 2 aces. Rehder had 1 kill and 11 aces.
Rehder and Wemhoff were the serving stars for Prairie as Rehder was the server for 16 points and Wemhoff for 12 points.
The JV team lost to Lapwai 15-25, 25-21, 13-15.
Prairie jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game only to see Lapwai score the next 6 points to take the lead for good.
Prairie got back within 1 at 6-7 after a kill by Ellie Nuxoll. Lapwai pushed the lead to 6-10 and Prairie never got closer than 2 the rest of the way, the last time at 10-12. Lapwai steadily pulled away to win by 10.
Prairie took a 4-0 lead in the second game as Sydney Shears scored a kill and Tamden Pecarovich served the next 3 points. She had an ace. Kylie Schumacher had a block and Ember Martin scored a kill.
Lapwai came back to take a 6-11 lead before a sideout kill by Pecarovich. Shears then served Prairie to a tie at 11-11. Hailey Hanson had a kill and a block and Aubree Rehder and Shears each had a kill.
Lapwai took back the lead and held it until a sideout kill by Pecarovich sent her to the service line. Schumacher had 2 kills and a block. Pecarovich had 4 aces and Martin added a kill as Prairie took a 23-17 lead.
Lapwai came back to pull within 2 at 23-21 before Schumacher scored a pair of kills to give Prairie the win.
In the deciding third game Lapwai took the lead early on and held it until Nuxoll had a 3 point service run that included an ace and 2 kills by Kaylie Lockett that gave prairie a 10-8 lead.
Lapwai answered with 5 straight points before bricking a serve. A kill by Lockett and an ace by Pecarovich tied the score at 13 before Lapwai scored the final 2 points to win the match.
Vs. Genesee
On Senior Night against Genesee Tara Schlader, Kristin Wemhoff, Riley Enneking, Julia Rehder, Chloe Rowland and Holli Schumacher were honored before the match.
We don’t have any details other than the scores listed above.
The JV team lost to Genesee 17-25, 24-26.
At Troy
In the opening game against Troy, Prairie never let the Trojans get very far ahead but also could never get into the lead.

Also shown are Kylie Schumacher, Lexi Schumacher and Kristin Wemhoff.Troy had a 2-7 stetch against Prairie where they built a 7-13 lead but Prairie was able to get back within 2 on a pair of kills by Schlader and a kill each by Kylie Schumacher and Wemhoff that made it 12-14.
They were down 12-16 when Rehder scored a kill and Wemhoff then served Prairie into a 16-16 tie. She had an ace while Geis scored on a block and a kill.
That was the high water mark of the game for Prairie though as Troy scored the sideout and held off Prairie for a 5-point win.
In the second game Prairie fell behind 1-5 but an ace by Wemhoff and then a kill each by Geis, Rehder and Lexi Schumacher plus an ace by Enneking allowed Prairie to tie the score at 7-7.
Troy surged back to a 3-point lead but Prairie came back to take their first lead of the night when Geis scored a kill to make it 10-11 then served an ace and Kylie Schumacher added a kill to make it 12-11.
That turned out to be Prairie’s only lead of the night as Troy surged ahead to lead by as many as 7 at 15-22.
A kill by Schlader, a block by Geis, an ace by Enneking and a kill by Geis cut the lead to 3 at 19-22 but Troy scored the next 2 to get to game point at 19-24. A kill each by Geis and Schlader got Prairie back within 3 before Troy scored the game-winner on a block.
The third game was total domination by the Trojans as they jumped out to a 2-13 lead and eventually won by 17.
For the match Schlader had 12 kills and 2 assists. Geis had 9 kills, including 2 blocks, and 2 aces. Wemhoff had 5 kills. Kylie Schumacher had 4 kills including a block. Rehder had 4 kills. Lexi Schumacher had 2 kills and 25 assists. Enneking had 3 assists and 2 aces. Kaylie Lockett had 1 kill.
Prairie is now 6-11 on the season and 4-9 in league play.
The JV team lost 12-25, 22-25 but salvaged the third game 15-7.
In the opening game they held a 6-4 lead when Troy got a hot server who served 10 straight points with 9 aces as the Trojans took control 6-15.
The second game stayed competitive throughout. Prairie scored the first 2 points but that was their only lead of the game as Troy answered with 5 straight and held the lead throughout. Prairie managed to stay close as Troy never led by more than 5.
In the third game Prairie fell behind 0-2 then got a kill by Pecarovich. She then served Prairie to a 5-2 lead with an ace plus 3 kills by Lockett.
After a Troy sideout, Pecarovich scored a sideout kill and Lockett went to the service line for 4 straight aces as Prairie built a 10-3 lead.
After another Troy sideout, Prairie got kills from Pecarovich, Nuxoll and North as they took a 13-4 lead.
Troy put 2 points together then miss a serve. They scored another sideout before North scored the game-winning kill.
