Lady Patriots win 2 of 3 at District
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots are making a surprising run in the District 2 1A-Division 2 Tournament held at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston.
As the #4 seed they opened with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 sweep of #5 seeded Timberline. They then pulled off possibly the biggest upset since the White Pine League split into 2 divisions when they rallied from 2 sets down to beat #1 seeded Kendrick 12-25, 12-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11. Both of those matches were on Saturday, Oct. 15. On Monday, Oct. 17 they lost in 4 games 25-17, 14-25, 10-25, 18-15. That put them into a rematch with Kendrick on Tuesday in a loser out match with the winner clinching a trip to State.
Vs. Timberline
The opening match against Timberline went pretty much how the matches between the two teams went during the season as Bosco had a season sweep of the Spartans.Sarah Waters jousts at the net with a Timberline player at District.

The match against Kendrick started like the previous 2 outings had against the Tigers. Bosco fell behind 0-8 and 1-13 in the opening game and were never in it as Kendrick went on to win 12-25.
In the second game Bosco scored first on a kill by Warren and led 6-3 when Kendrick started to take control.
Bosco was down just 9-11 when things started to fall apart as Kendrick outscored them 3-14 the rest of the game as the Tigers appeared headed for a 3-game sweep.
In the third game the Lady Patriots’ scrappiness started to show as they were able to respond each time it appeared Kendrick might pull away.
Bosco led 6-4 after 2 aces by Waters.
Kendrick took a 9-10 lead after an ace but then Bosco started siding out Kendrick’s serves. After 3 straight sideouts, Sonnen served an ace to give Bosco a 12-11 lead. After another 4 straight sideouts, a dig by Wassmuth scored a point for a 15-13 lead.
Kendrick came back with 3 straight points but a sideout kill and then an ace by Warren put Bosco back on top. Kendrick scored 2 straight but then missed a serve and Palmer served 2 points, including an ace, for a 20-18 lead.

Bosco got to game point on a tip by Waters that made it 24-22. Kendrick scored the sideout but then had a hitting error that gave the Patriots the game.

Vs. Deary

Bosco started the match like they were going to qualify for State for the first time ever as they carried the momentum from the Kendrick win into the opening game. However Deary bounced back and Bosco started to make errors they hadn’t been making so far in the tournament leading to a win by the Mustangs.
In the opening game Bosco built an 11-6 lead after a pair of kills by Waters but Deary came back and eventually took a 13-14 lead. A kill by Waters and an ace by Sonnen put Bosco back on top. Deary tied it but another kill by Waters and an ace by her gave Bosco a lead they never surrendered.
Deary kept it close, trailing just 18-17 when Chmelik scored a kill to send Warren to the service line. Warren proceeded to serve out the game. She had 2 aces while Palmer had a pair of kills and Sonnen added a free ball kill.
In the second game the air went out of the balloon for Bosco as Deary jumped out to leads of 0-4 and 2-8. Bosco never got closer than 4 points the rest of the game. They were down just 5 at 10-15 after a tip by Waters when Deary put the hammer down with 6 straight points and went on to win by 11.
