Boys Cross Country team qualifies for State
The freshman dominated Prairie boys cross country team qualified for State at the District meet held Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the LCSC course in the Lewiston Orchards.
The top 19 finishers qualified as individuals with freshman Chase Vonbargen finishing 8th in 19:11, freshman Ben Secrest finishing 12th in 19:27 and freshman Jackson Enneking finishing 17th in 19:44.
The team finished 2nd overall with 3 teams advancing to state. Prairie had a team score of 85 points, edging out Potlatch, who finished third with 86 and Nezperce, who finished fourth with 88 points.
By qualifying as a team that allows senior Morgan Poxleitner, who finished 33rd in 21:54, freshman Dylan Klapprich, who finished 41st in 23:05; freshman Landon Riener, who finished 46th in 25:23 and junior Zane Uptmor, who finished 53rd in 28:23, to also compete at State.
The girls team wasn’t quite so fortunate. The top 13 finishers qualified for state and Prairie’s top finisher was junior Elizabeth Severns, who finished 15th in 24:41. Sophomore Natalie Goeckner battled through a leg injury and finished 19th in 25:33. Freshman Callie Ramcle finished 26th in 28:43. Freshman Alaina Lustig finished 28th in 28:52 and junior Miranda Klapprich finished 31st in 32.24.
The top 3 teams qualified for state and Prairie finished 4th with 108 points.
The boys will be competing at the State Meet which will be held at the LCSC course in the Lewiston Orchards this Saturday, Oct. 29. The 1A boys race is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
