14 turn out for Patriot boys basketball
St. John Bosco Academy has their biggest turnout in years, maybe ever, for boys basketball with 14 players.
That’s enough to have a separate JV squad for the first time we can remember.
The varsity squad has 8 players, all juniors and seniors. Seniors are Cody Wassmuth, Luke Stubbers, Clay Weckman and Tory Chmelik.
Juniors are Stallone Hoene, Matthew Warren, Levi Wassmuth and Dustin Kaschmitter.
The JV squad has 6 players. They are John Uhlenkott and Noah Beckman, both juniors; Thomas LeBlanc and Sam Weckman, both sophomores, and Connor Nuxoll and Tommy Rose, both freshmen.
Alex Frei returns as head coach with Kim Frei as assistant coach. Lane Wassmuth joins the coaching staff as the JV coach.

Patriot teams split doubleheader
The St. John Bosco girls and boys split a doubleheader played Friday, Dec. 2 at the Highland gym in Craigmont.
In the opener the girls lost the Clearwater Valley 20-71 as C.V. swept the season series against the Lady Patriots. In the nightcap the boys team won their season opener 54-29 over Logos Online.
A boys game scheduled for Dec. 1 at Meadows Valley was cancelled due to snowy road conditions.
Girls vs. CV
As in the first matchup against the Rams, SJB had trouble slowing down C.V.’s offense as the Rams bolted toa 4-27 lead after one quarter and 12-44 by halftime. After 3 quarters C.V. led 16-61 leading to a running clock in the fourth quarter.
C.V. bombed away from 3-point distance against the Lady Patriots, converting eleven 3-pointers worth 33 points or 13 more than SJB was able to score.
Serrinah Palmer led the Patriots in scoring with 9 points with Sarah Waters adding 8. Julia Wassmuth scored 2 and Noelle Chmelik 1.
SJB is now 0-3 on the season.

Boys vs. Logos Online
After getting their first game cancelled due to weather conditions the Patriots were able to get on the floor against Logos Online (a Google search says Logos Online is also based in Moscow but is not affiliated with Logos School).
The Patriots jumped out to a 20-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 36-20 by halftime.
The Patriots shut out Logos Online in the third quarter 18-0 to take a 54-20 lead. That led to a running clock in the fourth quarter and Logos Online turned the tables and shut out the Patriots 0-9 in the final frame.
Torry Chmelik scored 23 points to lead the Patriots in scoring. Cody Wassmuth was also in double figures with 14 points. Levi Wassmuth scored 5, Like Stubbers and Dustin Kaschmitter 4 each and Clay Weckman and Conner Nuxoll 2 each.
