Lady Pirates win at Potlatch
The Prairie Lady Pirates fended off a good Potlatch team with a 64-42 win at Potlatch Monday, Dec. 19. Riley Enneking is about to score against Potlatch. Also shown is Kylie Schumacher.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 16 at Cottonwood but postponed due to illness. Prairie was also to play at Kamiah on Thursday, Dec. 15 and that game has been postponed to Jan. 10. They were also originally to play Troy on Monday, Dec. 19 at Cottonwood but Troy had to call that game off due to illness. That game has not yet been rescheduled.
We would assume since they played at Potlatch this time that the Jan. 27 game will be at Cottonwood.
Kristin Wemhoff got the scoring started with a lay-up but Potlatch tied it by scoring on a back cut where they made crisp passes until they got someone open on the backside of Prairie’s defense for a lay-up.
Another back cut put the Loggers ahead 2-4. Prairie responded with a basket each by Tara Schlader and Lexi Schumacher to retake the lead at 6-4.
Potlatch then put 3 baskets together to take a 6-10 lead with 4:20 left in the first quarter.
Riley Enneking then scored on a feed from Lexi Schumacher that kicked off a 13-0 run that put Prairie on top for good. Wemhoff followed with a basket. Lexi Schumacher scored, Schlader scored, Enneking scored again and Lexi Schumacher capped the run with a 3-pointer.
Potlatch finally broke through after a 4 minute dry spell with a basket but Hailey Hanson ended the quarter with a lay-up at the buzzer for a 21-12 lead.
Potlatch outscored Prairie 3-6 to open the second quarter then Prairie put together a 6-0 run. Schlader scored a free throw then Lexi Schumacher scored a 3. Schlader made it 30-18 with a drive down the lane. After a Potlatch basket, Prairie closed out the half with a basket each by Enneking and Wemhoff as they led 34-20 at the break.
In the third quarter Potlatch was able to get back within 8 points at 38-30 with 4:40 left. Prairie then went on a 12-0 run to push their lead to 20. Schlader started the run by converting a 3-point play following a steal by Wemhoff. Wemhoff then scored and Schlader followed with a pair of baskets. Wemhoff then stole the ball again and converted a 3-point play to make it 50-30 with 1:41 left in the quarter. Potlatch finally broke the run with a basket but another steal by Wemhoff led to a lay-up for a 52-32 lead after 3 quarters.
The fourth quarter saw Prairie outscore Potlatch 12-10 as Lexi Schumacher and Schlader each scored 4 points while Wemhoff and Hanson scored 2 each.
Wemhoff wound up with a great all-round game as she led the team with 19 points and had 8 rebounds, 7 steals and 10 assists. Schlader scored 18 points and had 9 steals and 3 assists. Lexi Schumacher scored 14 points and had 3 assists. Hanson and Enneking each scored 6 points and Alli Geis scored 1.
Prairie edged Potlatch 36-32 on the boards with Kylie Schumacher leading the Pirates with 9 rebounds.
